Hey guys
Following SPW (https://www.tus-wa.com/profile/SPW/)'s footsteps on TEL; I'm gonna do the same on the Classic league. As many of you have noticed, I'm pretty busy in real life and I can't code TUS the way I used to. So currently this is the best way for me to help and get involved again.
I talked to obscure (https://www.tus-wa.com/profile/obscure/) and he came on board too. We decided to each put 100$ on each season of Classic league for the next 3 seasons, making it 200$ prize for each season. If we see positive results (and we're not broke by then), we'll continue renewing it. DarkOne (https://www.tus-wa.com/profile/DarkOne/) has donated the same amount towards additional prizes.
I will gladly accept if anyone wants to chip in to make the prize more fat! (Chicken23 (https://www.tus-wa.com/profile/Chicken23/) already offered he will take part) If you'd like to chip in, make a donation to TUS and then let us know for which season your donation belongs to. Here's the path to heaven donation.
Since the final prize is not known yet, we can't say the exact amount for each winner. But the 200$ of me and obscure is guaranteed, so it won't be any lower than that.
Playoffs winner takes all?
No. 200$ won't be only for the playoffs winner. These people will be rewarded with the cash prize:
- Standings #1
- Playoffs qualification spot
- Playoffs runner-up
- Playoffs winner
How the prize is split
There are some suggestions for how to split the prize. Such as:
- Standings #1 (20$)
- Playoffs qualification spot (8 x 10$)
- Playoffs runner-up (20$)
- Playoffs winner (100$)
Additional prizes
- Best shot of the season (20$)
- Best turn of the season (20$)
- Worst shot of the season (20$)
- Worst turn of the season (20$)
- Best Commentary (20$)
- These prizes are not limited to just the classic league, but also Free league, TRL and TEL. Nominations should be of games played within the time of one classic league season.
But since the exact amount is not known, those numbers will change. Like always you can post up your ideas and we may choose the best splitting formula/plan.
What's the requirements to join
You need to have a Paypal or moneybookers account. If you don't have it, you can still play and enjoy high level of competition and measure your skills.
No aliasing
Despite some of you who highly enjoy making aliases with detailed backgrounds, I don't. I won't be paying any aliases and fortunately we know how to detect them. Even if we don't find an alias's true identity, we can detect whether he/she is an alias or not.
No cheating scripts or modules
Well forget the cash prize for now. We never allowed any scripts in our league anyway and we've banned those who cheated for at least two months. Since prize is on stake here, our tolerance on cheating will be much lower. You may get yourself banned for several months. For example getting banned for current season and the season after that.
Latest W:A update
Unfortunately there are cheat modules out there. Some of them only work on older W:A versions; Specially 3.6.31.0.
We do not allow those versions on our league. If you do use them for performance reasons, you need to fix your computer. If you have absolutely no other way, you should avoid playing certain schemes only if we approve.
Advertising
The biggest point of this move is to gain activity. Please advertise us anywhere you see fit.

Great idea MI,again, I hope more ppl will donate and stake will be really nice, so there will be good and active league again, I wish to donate 100 dollars also, but actually I have not paypal, but I do have neteller and moneybookers, is there a way to donate by thoe methods too?
And also nice idea with that old wa version, yes there are some russian cheatpack which I did not try, but ppl say it works.. fortunatelly it works just with that old version, so lets force ppl update worms or gtfo.. kiss for MI :-*
I totally agree also that u put that 200 dollars betweeon more ppl, coz most of here will never win PO, but still can get to PO, what is good point to get more activity and more fight, simple more power to tus :D

Maybe it's time to start playing classic league again :)
Surely this is an excellent initiative to intensify the activity, however, it will increase the people who will definitely noobasher/cheat but we can't do nothing against them.
Nice job MI, obscure, Chicken and others, even if you don't play so much this means that you care a lot about this game.

Passion should always come 1st, the best things in life are free, you should remember that.
I'd rather be part of a dying respectable league, than a desperate cash cow...
(I should add to this and say, I am not suggesting YOU are a desperate cash cow(obviously because you are giving your money away), I just found the way you said this is pretty lame & I wouldn't play for any amount of money anyway...)
For those interested in playing for money it's a good idea though.

Noobashers put a lot of effort and time to be first, so it's not that bad thing I think. Besides, there is limitation of games to be played against one person.

Well..Taking spot in PO can earn some cash according to MI's post, lower quantity maybe but unfair if someone is playing fairly.. Let's not look about the final prize only guys..

This will kill clanners, btw. Noone is going to waste time (and money) by playing clanners except the very few people like me that enjoy clanners more than singles. I think you should at least give clanners a little love too or else you can probably disable clan league in a year with 0 games played. :(

When Did U play clanner last time? I can't remember.. Clanners are dead, so let's at least save the classic singles league

6th February 2014 was the last time. I follow clanners all the time, not participating in clanners does not mean I don't want to EVER play clanners again in the future. Don't we have threads that clanning is in bad shape right now and people were thinking on how to save it? Well that will certainly not save it.

Yes, I think noobasher deserves those 10$ for the spot, because he might play the game all day long for it, noobashers are also humans and want to eat :D
The thing is that newbies take part in noobashing as victims, so we can blame newbies too for playing with noobashers, yaya. Why newbies don't want to play against equal rivals in this situation? Because they don't care? (They should care now because of money reward, and they will think twice before playing against some pro/"pro")
MI should decrease the reward for the spot if it's going to be so bad, or remove the reward completely :-X
Maybe I'm wrong, dunno, I don't have much of experience in this topic xd

btw, I think that if somebody doesnt play his or her PO games, they dont deserve to get paid.
I'm thinking of donating something as well, but I'm gonna do something else (still related to the league, though). Just asking for some feedback on the idea - more news to follow.

Anubis, it may make clanner league more active as well...
this will no doubt draw more people to AG, and ofc some people will only have their eyes on the cash prize, but hopefully others will want to find clanner matches, in between competing on singles....
with more people in AG, there will no doubt be more chances to find clanners, this could be a win win situation for everyone....
all though, i do strongly suggest having 1 season for clan leagues.... it could bring a lot of people out of retirement, even if just for a short time....
if there were a clanner league cash prize, i could imagine dt coming back strong, and CF wanting to compete, and other clans sharpening their pencils as well... would be a really fun season...

I already noticed some players who are more interested in singles than clanners, so tell me what will happen once this gets up and running.

That should be up to your clan leader. If you don't even trust your clan leader.... I'd simply divide the money equally to everyone that showed serious effort in playing. Like offering your help in playing clanners etc, not just winning clanners. But yeah, in the end the clan leader should split the money. I would have no doubt that avi would make this very fair and understandable for every member in dt. And, I am sure our Members are humble and don't expect to get more than member xy.

For now, I'm also going to kick in with the prizes, but the PO participants aren't the only people that make the league worthwhile, so I'll put my money to other good use :)
I'll hand out 5 prizes of $20, and you can win them a couple of different ways:
1) Best shot and/or best turn.
2) Worst shot and/or worst turn.
3) Best commentary.
For 1 and 2, you can nominate turns/shots using the site. I wont pick the replay with the most votes, because I dont want people to rig this contest. I will look at all the nominations (I will rename the files so that I can't see which player is involved until after I have decided the winners).
Make sure you write the time in the replay for when the shot/turn happens, not something like "last turn" because I can't get logs anymore for some reason (damn you, windows 8!).
You can nominate games from any league: TEL, Classic, Free, anything goes.
If you're losing a game, go nuts! One crazy shot can earn you money :) (whether it wins you the game or costs you the game horribly).
Don't forget to also upload the worst shot/turn replays to http://wse.worms2d.info/
For 3, you can submit any game (even cups). You can either make a movie, and upload it to YouTube or you can record yourself talking through a game (let the viewers know when they should start the replay) and upload it in the files section here.
Obviously, you will have to let me know about your commentary in some way for me to be able to judge it. Since I can only speak a couple of languages, and I want this to be useful to most people, the commentary must be in english. You can make a commentary in Russian (would be great for russian players!), but I won't be able to judge it then.
Your commentary will have to teach something to the people watching - this will help newer players to understand the game better. If the commentary is also entertaining, that just makes it better!
If there's no commentary, then I will give the 5th prize to another person for best/worst shot/turn.
Also, people are only eligible to win one of these prizes, so there will be 5 different prize winners.

I haven't seen confirmation from the people wanting to donate (They may have PMed MI in the meantime, though, haven't heard of that).
I think that people who donate should also have a say in what they want to sponsor (like I did). I've added the part of additional prizes to the first post, so it's $300 now.
Incidently, we have our first nominee for the worst shot/turn already :) Can't wait to see what else you guys can do! Creativity in mistakes/great shots is what's going to win this thing 8)

Donated anyway :) I think 200$ is enough for one season so save it for further seasons. Interesting to see what happens to activity when there is no more prize pot. Will some of the returners keep playing after "didn't remember this is fun" experience? If do, then this is certainly worth it.

Because the way things are set up now, every WormNET news entry has to go through Team17 and their network department who then have to update things on the server directly. It also wouldn't shock me if they had legal or moral or emotional objections to advertising cash money prizes not offered by them inside their own game; it'd be kind of risky from their perspective, their legal department would likely shout at them.

i think that we can split it of best form, 100$ look so much for 1st player compared with others places

Additional news for the current season: Senator has donated 15 USD as additional prize money for this season :)
He hasn't given us any instructions on how this money should be sent, but the most logical options would be either as additional prize money for the winner or as additional prize money for the #1 in standings.
My guess it would be for the playoffs winner, but go ahead and correct me, Senator!

I switched to a new computer recently and had to get everything back in order. Just started to take a look at best/worst shot/turn replays and a post will be made soon with regards to the winners
