This is a great bang for buck Canadian build. i3-6100 for that price is a total beast, hell it can even run Rocket League around 1080p 60fps with lowered settings.

Also if you ever want to play newest titles you can always buy a gpu and throw in.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

Motherboard: ASRock H110M-DGS Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard  ($43.50 @ Vuugo)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2400 Memory  ($66.00 @ shopRBC)
Storage: Western Digital BLACK SERIES 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  ($94.95 @ shopRBC)

Whether it's a laptop or desktop, these days its better to buy refurbished if youre on a budget. Intel processors haven't improved much in a while. Better to get a used i7-3820 (3rd gen - quad core) than a new i3-6100 (6th gen).

Update: House flooded so insurance is getting me a new laptop. Looking at 15-17" laptops and gaming laptops on bestbuy and newegg <$1600 price range, asus rog? Acer predator? Other suggestions? Keep in mind I know zero about computers. I don't want an overheating pos like my last asus gaming laptop. Thanks

I would say every gaming laptop is an overheating pos, coz gaming takes power, power means heat, laptops are compact devices, this does not allow them to store heat (low thermal capacity) or properly dessipate it (low performance fans). Get desktop PC.

Playing on laptops is shitty idea. Do you really need laptop's mobility? I got back my PC assembled in 2008, in comparison with 2008 laptop i used to use, it runs frighteningly fast. Benchmarks has shown that the PC is at least 1,5 times more powerful than the laptop.
