I think challenges should automatically extend their deadlines by 2-3 days if the top result was beaten. I'd give this map another try, but don't have more time today :)

My time still says waiting to be approved. Does it count as I sent it before the deadline?

Yes. The time you submitted your time counts, not when it gets approved.
