OD presents: the discordian holidays topic

happy chaoflux everyone!!

wtf is this??

Holyday of the season of Chaos.

Very little is known about this holyday. What we do is, we pretty much made up as we went along.

All your base are belong to us. Therefore, using Stumbleupon, pick the fifth website, translate into your favorite fictional language, and memorize your favorite paragraph. Mutter it quietly or sing it loudly as the situation demands.

Chaoflux is also about changing into discord, a more or less organized version of chaos. This can be accomplished by convincing your friends and closer to change their minds about decisions that they make through out the day.

happy zaraday everyone!

The Pentabarf

I - There is no Goddess but Goddess and She is Your Goddess. There is no Erisian Movement but The Erisian Movement and it is The Erisian Movement. And every Golden Apple Corps is the beloved home of a Golden Worm.

II - A Discordian Shall Always use the Official Discordian Document Numbering System.

III - A Discordian is Required during his early Illumination to Go Off Alone & Partake Joyously of a Hot Dog on a Friday; this Devotive Ceremony to Remonstrate against the popular Paganisms of the Day: of Catholic Christendom (no meat on Friday), of Judaism (no meat of Pork), of Hindic Peoples (no meat of Beef), of Buddhists (no meat of animal), and of Discordians (no Hot Dog Buns).

IV - A Discordian shall Partake of No Hot Dog Buns, for Such was the Solace of Our Goddess when She was Confronted with The Original Snub.

V - A Discordian is Prohibited of Believing what he reads.

Celebrate Bureflux!

Today is Prickle-Prickle, the 50th day of Bureaucracy in the YOLD 3176
    Celebrate Bureflux

Bureflux is the 50th of Bureaucracy in the Discordian Calendar.  It’s a time to celebrate the wonderful mess that strict adherence to bureaucratic regulations can bring.  So take some time to contemplate what a mess the good intentions of overzealous rule-makers can make.  And eat some hot dogs but no buns since it’s not Friday.  And don’t forget the wine.

Five tons of flax!

    Penguin, penguin, make a wish-y
    Something scaly, cold and squishy
    How’s about a tasty fishy?
    What kind do you eat?
    -Catfish!
    -Albacore!
    -Snapper!
    -FISH!
    And don’t forget the grenade!

happy maladay everyone!

Maladay occurs the fifth day of The Aftermath. It is dedicated to Malaclypse The Elder. It is one of the five Apostyle Holydays.

Celebrating Maladay:

What better way of celebrating the end of Bureaucracy (the month before The Aftermath) than a game of Flip the Table?

Flip the Table Summary:

Flip the Table is a game played by a group of people (usually co-ed), often in an informal setting purely for entertainment such as a birthday party. The game starts with any number of players and a table that the number of players may gather around; the players are arranged in a circle (or other closed figure if space is constrained; a double line is sometimes used) facing the table, with the people standing in the circle just outside of that table. A non-playing individual may observe or find more interest in a musical instrument. While the music is playing.  The players in the circle all in unison grab the table. With all their strength they thrust upward at once, and the table is (usually) thrown into the air to come crashing back down, perhaps in a new, and more interesting, way.

Players: Variable
Age range: Usually Adults
Setup time: 1 minute
Playing time: Variable
Random chance: Blunt trauma, Impalement
Skill(s) required: Quick reaction time, The strength of the average person

apart from the discussions going on in the religion topic (which are meaningless but true and false at the same time), the real stuff is here:

have a nice syaday everyone!!!

Syaday is a holyday that occurs on the 5th day of Confusion. It is dedicated to the Apostle Sri Syadasti, which is short for

Sri Syadasti Syadavaktavya Syadasti Syannasti Syadasti Cavaktavyasca Syadasti Syannasti Syadavatavyasca Syadasti Syannasti Syadavaktavyasca

His name is Sanskrit, and means: "All affirmations are true in some sense, false in some sense, meaningless in some sense, true and false in some sense, true and meaningless in some sense, false and meaningless in some sense, and true and false and meaningless in some sense."

i wish everyone an evil day of stupid paperwork for today, as we are celebrating Bureflux!

Bureflux is the Holyday of the season of Bureaucracy.

The peak of Bureaucracy's influence. This is the the greyest of the Whollydays, but it is bittersweet. True, bureaucracy is supreme on this day, but it is the last day that this is so, so celebrate the passing of Bureaucracy! Although it is true that bureaucracy passes due to the inescapable Law of Escalation, and the following season (The Aftermath) is a time of picking up the pieces, we are past the darkest time and proceed onward to the day when Joyous Chaos returns.

did you know:

This is a legal Discordian religious holiday, recognized by the US government, and Discordians are within their rights to demand the day off from work. This isn't recommended for Bureflux, however, as this particular holiday is best celebrated in places of extreme bureaucracy.

enjoy the end of Bureaucracy. happy maladay everyone!

maladay is dedicated to Malaclypse The Elder:

Very little is known about Malaclypse the Elder, the namesake of Mal-2. The Principia Discordia merely mentions him as a "non-prophet" and that he was mistaken for a doomsayer when carrying a sign that read "DUMB."

According to Malaclypse the Elder himself, he is a 4th century B.C. Erisian priest (who was also prepared to perform services to Hermes, Dionysus, Heracles, Aphrodite, Athena, and Hera) who achieved "illumination" in the course of the massacre at Melos in 830 YOLD. The Illuminati believe that death releases a certain form of energy. Given enough death and a person intent on capturing said energy, a person may be transformed into an immortal, immaterial being, or so the plot element goes.

Before Malaclypse the Elder was Jesus, he was the priest of god most high, Melchizedek. Malaclypse the Elder also posed as Jesus after Jesus was crucified. In the form of Jesus, he introduced bingo, but asked Luke to not record it.

Time to throw a Toast and celebrate Afflux!

Afflux is the Holyday of The Aftermath. Celebrated on the 50th day of that season.

According to Reverend Loveshade:

Thank Goddess this is the last seasonal holyday we have to figure out something to do for. Thank Goddess it’s getting toward the end of the year. Thank Goddess the aftermath of what you did all year isn’t too bad. Well, not as bad as it could have been.

According to Paternosterprime:

The flux is the gift that keeps on giving.

Celebration

In Nepal and certain regions of India, the Afflux is celebrated by burning large quantities of sage and dancing on rooftops.

In America and some parts of Europe, Afflux is the Discordian equivilent of Christmas. It is celebrated by placing a pair of strong magnets on either side of a piece of toast and throwing it at someone in a style similar to that used to launch throwing stars. If the target is hit, then he or she is blessed by the Goddess Eris for a full year (something no one in their left minds would want).

happy zaraday everyone! zaraday is the holiday of the 4th apostel Zarathud (the patron saint of Bureaucracy) and here's one of his stories:

Before he became a hermit, Zarathud was a young Priest, and took great delight in making fools of his opponents in front of his followers.

One day Zarathud took his students to a pleasant pasture and there he confronted The Sacred Chao while She was contentedly grazing.

"Tell me, you dumb beast," demanded the Priest in his commanding voice, "Why don't you do something worthwhile. What is your Purpose in Life, anyway?"

Munching the tasty grass, The Sacred Chao replied "MU."

Upon hearing this, absolutely nobody was enlightened. Primarily because nobody could understand Chinese.

Afflux (which is today!!!) is the Discordian Holyday of the season Aftermath. Discordians like to celebrate the holyday with inebriation rituals. Discordians often feast on hot dogs and sing Erisian Hymns through the night. Games like Break-N-Fix are popular and often played in groups. An Afflux reveler once summarized the holiday festivities, stating "its about celebrating the coming undone man and, like, starting over with just the pieces."

"Lika a drop of honey into the tea - with Aftermath comes entropy..." -Popular Afflux Children's Hymn
