ropes and jetpacks sound awfully overpowered

The best setup for it is Windows 7 or lower and a monitor which supports 640x480 fullscreen.
For Win8/10, try placing this dll (http://files.steps.club/various/ddraw_fix_w8_up.zip) in game's folder and hope it works.
There's also a windowed mode available (for those who didn't meet the second requirement) here (http://myfiles.my1.ru/wa/wk/windowmode.rar), but I've heard it's a bit glitchy, so you'd probably have to mess up with settings a bit.

i have the steam version of WA, PX Won't work in the steam version.
