There is no PX for 3.7.2.1; there's a downgrader that downgrades the game to 3.6.31.0 and then installs PX. I don't remember what exactly does the installer say, but I'm pretty sure it notifies you about the necessary downgrade.

You're mixing up instant replays and replay files.

Instant replays are automatic in-game replays that pop up under certain conditions (such as dealing tons of damage, or doing something dumb (from game's point of view) such as accidentally killing own worms, and I think it can be manually requested by pressing R, but I never tried that) right after you've finished the turn. After you close an instant replay or fully watch it once, the game is resumed and the replay is lost and can no longer be viewed, neither it can be shared with anyone.
Instant replays are only possible in offline games; if you never played a single offline game since PX installment, that might be the reason you've never seen them. Or probably PX disables them for some reason, though I doubt that.

Replay files are recorded games of whatever games you have ever played, including offline multiplayer, online multiplayer, trainings, deathmatches, basically everything. They are stored as .WAgame files in /%WAInstallPath%/User/Games/ folder and can be opened by double-clicking them (if file associations are configured - in Steam version they might be not), or by other means of throwing them onto game's main executable (WA.exe). Replay files can be shared, just download a replay and then open it like if it was your own replay, you don't even have to move it to the appropriate folder. I'd like to note that, since lower W:A versions cannot play replays of higher W:A versions, you'd need a separate installation of 3.7.2.1 if you only have 3.6.31.0 but wanna see 3.7.2.1 replays. Yes it's fine to have multiple copies of W:A, especially for such purposes. If anything, 3.7.2.1 installer is here (http://worms2d.info/files/WA_update-3.7.2.1_Installer.exe).

Works for me. R has to be pressed shortly after performing the shot, and then it'll work. Probably. I don't know. Either way, instant replays are not all that important, because replay files > instant replays

Nope, unless PX features were not activated/used during that match. Take a wild guess: what are the odds that 3.7.2.1 would automatically load all the libraries attached to PX replays, if it doesn't even have an idea on what those libraries are?
