Some people don't know exactly what I do, so here is a little festive comparison :)

I have an idea for a song, let's call that idea, my turkey.

So I take my turkey to the kitchen, the place where I will cook the turkey, this would be my DAW - Digital Audio Workstation, this is where I create my music(cook my turkey) :P

Ok, so I have my turkey, now what? I need some tools to prepare that bad boy!

I'll need a roasting tin, some seasoning, perhaps some extra vegetables, maybe even some cheese, just because, for music that would my instruments and effects...

In the same way you use tools and seasonings etc to cook/enhance your food to make it as tasty as possible, I use instruments and effects to create/enhance music to make them as pleasant and emotional as possible, this would be music production and mixing engineering.

And I guess you could say hiring a professional and talented mastering engineering can be the difference between eating out at a professional and expensive restaurant and taking your partner to macdonalds(no offence Chelsea :D )...

Merry Christmas everyone, if I don't see you, have a good one!

In my opinion you are not a musician, you are much more like a composer. I mean a musician has talent to create parts of the music. In rock world this means he invents a good riff or a good solo. You rather create the song from ready parts. Both need their talent though, so don't get me wrong. I like the best the musicians who are also composers ;)

Audio engineer is the correct term used for those with an actual title.

The rest, like you explain very well in your example, is as stupid as calling someone a food engineer because he can cook turkey.
MonkeyIsland, my friend, I know your english is terrible and your understanding of society limited. However, in real life, people attack and humiliate others without the use of a single bad word. They even go to war with lengthy politeness. You can't base the whole moderation philosophy of a community based on the use of bad words and your struggle with sarcasm and irony. My attack to Jonno was fully justified and of proper good taste.

Tomi a musician is:

1.
a person who makes music a profession, especially as a performer of music.
2.
any person, whether professional or not, skilled in music.

Audio engineer is for any job mixing engineering is specifically for music hence why it's called a mixdown.

Why would it mean that to you when the literal definition doesn't mean that lol, and I can play instruments I choose not to because instruments take up too much room and generally I find digital instruments sound more interesting.

Edit - Funny enough I used to share the same view, until M3ntal pointed out what I just pointed out and tbh imo he's smarter than everyone on TUS(tho I'm sure he would disagree lol), I trust him with my life lol.

just cuz of the part of "making" the music.
similar as tomi said.
you put stuff together, arrange, compose, whatever. you dont play it.

1st off, that isn't the definition of a musician lol.

Secondly, I can play piano and often sit and play with my midi keyboards and record what I play into my DAW.

For someone who used to be a professional you are very VERY close minded Hurz, disappointing...

All u guys need to say is:

"I don't like what you do" then at least you would be correct.

Punk is cool, it stands for something, which is problem with most music today, it stands for nothing...

I love DnB because it's the most energetic feelings, beautiful atnospheres, nice grooves and sounds that blow me away, but it doesn't really stand for anything really these days.

Zex, dunno lol you mean OP or when debating? Lol
