So when I minimize the game while playing the game, and return, I get this stupid rectangle thing on the screen:
When I minimize when in any menu but not playing, and return, I get this:
I've tried disable fullscreen optimizations.
I've tried super frontend.
I've tried changing nvidia settings.
I've tried compatibility.
I've tried every variation of WA advanced settings with every variation of the previous 4 so called "solutions".
Absolutely nothing is working.
You pay over 2 grand for a laptop and it doesn't even play a simple game :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
I can't play this game like this, there is no way I cannot minimize during a game, i've been doing it for 19 years it's so natural to me like breathing...
Does anyone have a solution, does anyone even know WHAT THE F**K causes this bullsh*t? Because obviously Team17 don't give a f**k...

I agree with part where t17 doesn't give a f@#!, although they apparently fixed this with 3.7.2.2. update. (wormkit doesn't work)
If you still wanna use 3.7.2.1. - when checking "disable fullscreen optimizations", in same window try changing compatibility with some of the previous OS's.
My game only works with WinXP(sp3), maybe that will fix it for you.
-
Yeah apparently this is happening because I have Windows 10, and I can't use any other Windows because my music software, and VSTs only work with Windows 10...
Game worked amazing using Windows 7 on my PC but I don't have the PC anymore so only laptop.
I'll happily downgrade to 3.7.2.1 if that fixes the problem, I don't even remember upgrading to 3.7.2.2 in the 1st place, maybe an automatic steam update...

could try windowed mode (https://www.tus-wa.com/?topic=19063), I've heard it is good for avoiding graphics-related issues at a cost of forced frame limit (https://www.tus-wa.com/?msg=262388)
-

Yeah, if you use vsyncs, windowed mode should solve problems.
-
Windowed mode indeed works, that's what I used to stream, however the problem is, I cannot rope for shit with windowed mode because it changes the reaction times and just looks awful.
I tried it before and couldn't rope at all... So this kind of defeats the purpose.
Xrayez suggested, don't minimize lol, which yeah, works 100% But at the cost of not being able to check things during games, or minimize in lobby to download a map or scheme, it's a pain in the arse lol.
All the suggestions that actually work are alternative solutions, which don't fix the problem.
Would like to actually understand what the problem is, what is causing this issue, what could fix it and why.
I guess I could try messing around with windowed mode again and see if anything has improved, I doubt it, but why not...
-
I have a 27 inch Asus 1440p 165hz screen.
I use display port cable.
I use wkD3D9Wnd module
I use latest WA.
I use Direct3D 9 Shader.
I disabled both VSync options.
I left Nvidia settings untouched.
I play at 1024x768.
Everything is smooth, even on previous version of WA.
I don't use Windows mode, only full screen.
Mayne look at cable connection. Nothing wrong with Windows 10.
Find WA.exe, right click, options, check & mess around with compatibility.
My post is to highlight what works for me, and could be a pointer for you.
-
Kradie, those settings work smooth for me too, but it has an unusual sort of delay that doesn't work when I tap extremely fast, it's like what I am seeing and what I am doing live in completely different time zones.
-
Windowed module aka. wk_d3d9wnd causes input lag (forces turning on vsync in background even if you have them both turned off - it's laic explanation, StepS will jump in if I said something stupid)
Kradie and Senator are one of the lucky ones that can't feel any difference.
But I know what Komo talkin about cause same thing happened here when tried Windowed (for twitch purpose).
Rope and jet felt clunky and unnatural.
Supposedly, this issue will get fixed in 3.8 ???
Until then, you need alternate solutions, Komo. If you can't set it up, I can help via TeamViewer.

I appreciate that man, but honestly, what else is there left to try?
I might just have to live with not being able to minimize to be honest, the game works fine, I just can't minimize.
Will just have to learn to start using my phone instead of minimizing.
-
The solution is simple porra!!!!! just dont minimize!
-
Windowed mode indeed works, that's what I used to stream, however the problem is, I cannot rope for shit with windowed mode because it changes the reaction times and just looks awful.
You can enable Fullscreen=1 in [InGameSettings] of wkD3D9Wnd.ini. That will maintain exclusive fullscreen during the game, which should not hinder your roping.
The white rectangle and the white screen come from the frontend (yes, it is technically still there even during the game). The module fixes them. You can use windowed frontend (or "FullscreenAlternative" frontend) but Fullscreen game to fix both the white-screen and roping reaction issues.
This should be the best solution until 3.8 is released.
-
Ah, that sounds like a good fix if I can use this but it maintains normal fullscreen during the game, i'll try that thanks!
-
This doesn't seem to be working for me, I keep getting this when I start worms:
wkRubberWorm: Incompatible application!

You got 3.7.2.2.?
-
Yeah
-
You seek for help but don't even read what ppl write you ???
In first post i told you wormkit doesn't work on 3722.
Everyone just downgraded and continued using 3721.
https://www.tus-wa.com/files/file-1564/
-
Ah, I had forgot about that lol.
But yeah now I remember, and I did ask people online how to downgrade but nobody gave me an answer...
Will try that thanks.
DO I need to uninstall WA and reinstall it? Or can I just use that file and it'll downgrade?
-

That I don't know. Never updated on 3722.
I'm guessing you can just double click that file and it will do all the work for you.
(maybe save teams, in case it resets them)
-
Yeah that's cool, I just downloaded the file, ran it, and i'm back to 3.7.2.1 again, thanks :)
However, windowed mode like StepS suggested doesn't seem to be working?? Anyone see what I am doing wrong, I tried what he said but the game isn't actually opening up in a window it's still fullscreen.
With the following setup I would expect windowed mode while in the menus, and when I start a game it would turn to fullscreen, but everything is fullscreen?
I thought with FrontendSettings being set to 0 and InGameSettings set to 1, what StepS suggested would happen for me, but doesn't seem to be working?
This is what I got set right now, and yes load wormkit modules is ticked in game:
[Misc]
EnableModule=1
StaticWindowClass=1
NoTopmost=1
SoundInBackground=1
FancyStartup=0
[FrontendSettings]

Did you enable wormkit modules in settings?

I don't know if this will help you or someone but I had minimize issues. I uninstalled worms then shut down steam afterwards and reinstalled.
I saw Worms Armageddon d/l removed in control panel after I closed steam.
Not sure if your using a disc or what.

Try this komo. I'm also curious how to get game running in lower res so it covers like 1/4 of desktop screen. Would be nice to have it that way cause some CWT streaming soon. I'm quite sure it's possible, but forgot what's need to be changed. About your menu being fullscreen, see if you have wk_superfrontendHD turned on. That module could be the reason why your menus are not windowed.
-
It's not working at all, I don't have superfrontend turned on :/
Doesn't matter what settings I use, everything is still in fullscreen, in fact the wkD3D9Wnd doesn't seem to be doing anything at all but it's definitely there in the folder...
It used to work on my old PC :/
And I have 3.7.2.1 now again so i'm stumped.
-
you have a haunted PC m8
-
Yeah I distinctly remember when using this module before, the game would only take up like 33% of my screen, and when I started a game, it went fullscreen, now, it doesn't do anything, wtf?
Since it's a D9 module, do you have to be using Direct3D9 in the game settings? Cuz it's the only thing I can think of, I have to use Direct3D7 because everything else makes my rope extremely laggy/delayed.
-
Since it's a D9 module, do you have to be using Direct3D9 in the game settings?
do you really need to question something that is in the module's name?
-
I'm sorry, were you born knowing everything there possibly is to exist? Or did you have to learn by asking questions and seeing information along the path of life just the same as myself and everyone else does?
I remember when installing old games it would install directx stuff, and since I saw I have at least directx 13 or something installed on my laptop I wasn't sure if this module needs that specific setting ingame, or at least that version of directx installed on your computer in general.
I'm great with computer knowledge in certain areas, but in other areas I don't have a clue, it's not shocking i'm only human lol.
If I have to use Direct9 in the advanced settings, then this ain't gonna be possible for me because it makes roping absolute sh*t.
-
Make sure you have both "wait for vertical sync" and "assisted vertical sync" unchecked under Direct3D9 (shader). Vertical sync may be the reason why your rope feels laggy.
-
As previously said, i've tried every combination of advanced settings but none of the 3D9 settings give me a good framerate/feel for rope :(
It's cool, I just have to accept I can't play this game anymore if I wanna minimize, and that's really hard for me, some games can get extremely boring and I do it out of habit...
I'll probably just buy a cheap older computer at some point.
-
Try Direct3D 9 Shader.
How much CPU cores are allowed for WA?
-

3D 9 causes screen tearing, can't rope with it.
Cores, all of them? I forgot how to check
-
Ctrl+Alt+Del, Processes - WA - Right click - CPU Affinity. WA is an old shit and works better with just one core allowed.
-

Wouldn't that just improve the gameplay though, I don't think this would affect the problem with minimizing.
-
More than one core allowed makes WA laggy, and it definitely worth getting rid of anyway.

FINALLY A SOLUTION!
I was chatting with some guy who had same problem as me and I was telling him how I navigate around this issue...
Then StepS came in and told me to use wkFrontendFix! This was not mentioned before but now I see why.
StepS didn't realize I use Direct7, he was expecting me to use D3D9, which I cannot because it makes rope extremely bad for me.
Anyway, D3D9 fixes this issue, and wkFrontendFix works for all except 8-bit directdraw.
https://worms2d.info/Getting_W:A_to_work_on_Windows_8
This is the module - http://myfiles.my1.ru/wa/wk/wkFrontendFix.rar
Finally, I can minimize my heart out and no issues whatsoever! FINALLY!!!
MWUahuHAUhauAHUhauHAUhauHUAHuahUHAUhauHUAHuhAa!!!!!!
Thanks StepS :)

holy shit man, thats gret!
You should definatelly make some song about it or smt like that

I've just made a discovery.
You don't need wkFrontendFix or any other module. The solution to this problem has existed in the game since the 3.7.0.0 release, but was only present as a .reg file in Tweaks.
All you need to do to fix the white frontend after minimizing is to apply this reg file:
Tweaks\GDILayerTransparencyWorkaround_On.reg
This one disables the fix:
Tweaks\GDILayerTransparencyWorkaround_Off.reg
Enjoy I guess, while 3.8.0 is not out yet.

Thank you for helping us. This is so much better now. Cheers.

Which one? On or Off? I'm guessing on, but wanna make sure.

Use On to enable the fix and Off to disable.
