Title: Help with new PC for WA.
Post by: TheKomodo on April 16, 2015, 01:03 PM
Looking for help in purchasing a new PC specifically for WA, one that doesn't lag, the only thing I want installed on it is WA and WA related stuff.

My budget is £400, I don't need a super computer so the less money I use the better, I only need it for WA.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Looking for something more specific than that lol.

Can you link a website with prices (some english web shop)? :D Do you want to buy monitor, pc case, hard drive (however ssd is muuch better), keyboard, mouse or can you use any old stuff from old computer?  Btw AMD APUs are cool solutions for cheap, but good PCs. Mine is that. Here from 400 pounds you could by a PC that can also make you lunch xD

ok, but i had more questions xd

btw at https://www.aria.co.uk i made just fast a pc for 413 pounds : motherboard, processor (AMD A8-7600), 8gb memory, 500w power supply, pc case, 256gb ssd and a cpu cooler. (All items are from good brands). It's more than 400 pounds, but can be made under 400 with 4gb memory and maybe a cheaper pc case.

he wants to know in your budget of 400, do you also need to buy monitor, mouse, keyboard, etc...

or are you just looking for a deal on the 'brain' of the PC?

Well, when I seen this post originally it just asked for some links.

Anyway, I have keyboard, mouse, monitors etc.

I just need the PC and it's internals, I honestly don't know any websites from UK sorry :/

First UK shop I found by using a popular search engine was pcworld (http://www.pcworld.co.uk/), guess it's a decent one. You can literally order the cheapest desktop PC there and it will run WA smoothly, I remember I used to run it on a f@#!ing Pentium II with no problems.

This one (http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/desktop-pc-monitors/desktop-pcs/desktop-pcs/lenovo-h500s-desktop-pc-10025047-pdt.html) is only £189 and could probably run 4 instances of wa.exe simultaneously.

All you need to ensure lag-free playing is - as already been said - SSD and 4-8GB RAM.

style

CPU Intel Pentium G3258 20th Anniversary Edition

ASROCK H81M-HDS

Kingston SSDNow V300 120GB

RAM Crucial 4GB DDR3 1600MHz CL11

Samsung SH-224DB Black Oem

A cheap case+power supply that you like. ~30€

best setup for about ~300€

more than that is unnecessary

Hey Komito, I don't know about buying from amazon and ebay, best deal for you would be to go into a local shop, sit with them for 10 minutes and explain exactly what you need.
Don't buy anything in a whole package as they usually add price for no reason, while you are probably gonna get something you don't want.

If you're gonna be making maps, especially big maps, you're gonna need a little bit more RAM and better graphics card as you'll have problems using the software without it (on my older laptop, 3D rendering a single cube took around 10 minutes for example).
Also, it wouldn't hurt if you're already at ~3-4GBs of RAM to take dual core CPU, you won't need more that that, just make sure it's not AMD, as I had to learn the hard way, cheap AMDs suck ass. No matter what anyone says.
You'll pay a couple of extra bucks for Intel, but hey, you get what you pay for, ask yourself if you want to spend next 5-10 years complaining about having a shitty PC that doesn't fit your needs because you saved 30$ while purchasing it. :)

Anyway, just present your idea to someone who knows what he's doing and they'll help you :)
