The growing success of the ONL Discord seeing people organizing games and activity booming, along with seeing a recent surge in activity for TUS has made me wonder about having an official TUS Discord server ran by the TUS staff.
Mainly it would be there for members of TUS to chat about TUS and organize matches, but it could also relay news/results/upcoming important matches like the finals of any cup/tournament/playoffs.
Members of the server can opt to have an @TUS tag so you can notify everyone with the tag you are currently searching for a match. You could even have a tag specifically for singles and one for clanners.
Channels could be made for members of cups/playoffs in order to organize their games efficiently.
I reckon it could be a great step forward for TUS, does anyone else think this would be a good idea?

i think this has potential. If anyone was to mod it i think it would make for Senator too! But there are already alot of worms related discord servers. So would it be one too many?

Personally I think if there were 1 million servers it still wouldn't be too many if they all have a unique purpose specific to their use.
I don't like Sensei's server, it doesn't matter why, but even if I did, that server has it's own purpose not related to TUS so it's completely useless as far as my suggestion is concerned.
TUS is a massive success in it's own right/history, it should not be a sub-channel within anything else.
On the other hand if nobody cares then fair enough lol, it's worth a try. :)

I gotta continue the current process of TUS to see what happens. I'm redoing the shoutbox and messaging system. They'll become more robust and with the new code/layout and the new mobile app, they'll pretty much act like a messenger. In a way, the shoutbox will become the public TUS channel and you can start live messaging with any member. With that in mind, I'm not sure having a separate discord channel would help.

Say what you want about Sensei's discord server, but it is a success. This also goes to the other Worms Armageddon related discord servers that are smaller in size. However, if you allow yourself to look at the other way, I can totally see the necessity for a TUS discord server and here is why: Not everyone to my guessing, would want to keep their browsers, tabs, & phones open just to chat here on TUS. It would be more convenient & preferable imo, for TUS to have a discord link on the main site near the messenger. At least this would allow people to have the option to choose where they would conduct their communication. It would also allow TUS to reach out to more people who wishes to engage in ranked games & casual worms talk.
Speaking of Discord, perhaps TUS could also open a Twitch channel too. To stream random league games and so on.
In other words, TUS is the perfect WA hub for communication & streaming.

my aim is to stream more league games on twitch to create more awareness around WA. Once i've got a bit of a better set up I hope you all find me and don't troll. It will be a good way to attract new comers to worms.
MI - i know your doing some nice coding for the shoutbox but couldn't a discord embed work in a similar way?
Komo - perhaps a TUS server will naturally happen organically?
If lots of people ask for league games on discord does it make it harder for new comers in AG to learn about the leagues?

At this point, i've seen the positive effect Discord has on organizing games and I strongly believe when there is a will, there is a way. Anyone interested in playing competitively will find out about it sooner or later.

I think people are more comfortable on discord rather than to use site messengers & snoopers. Not many know of snooper, and just use channels just to host their games. Most doesn't even know that there is a league, and that you can use WormNAT2 instead of HB. So a link to discord on front page of this site could entice visitors of this site to click it and become member of a TUS discord.

I support the idea of creating a kind of communication center between players and I think that discord is good for this, since people sit in it more often, minimizing to tray on their computer or with push notifications on their phone.
If the new tus mobile app can provide the same speed of messaging, instant notifications and other convenient features, then cool :)
The problem may be that it is difficult to unite absolutely everyone, so it makes sense to have communication points in various public and mass platforms, like a discord
P.S. Now I'm hosting a cup and I was able to collect 75 percent of the cup members in a separate discord chat. I think this is a good indicator.

Good idea. There is already the ONL league channel. I don't know about other leagues. But I would think it's cool that there was a union, so it could encourage players in the ONL league to play TUS and vice versa. Someone would have to ask permission from the owners of the respective channels. I liked the idea.

I think that is a horrible idea.
I do not see an issue with creating as many Discord servers as needed, in fact, there is a whole world out there full of an uncountable number of experiences and options, but we choose to do the things that are useful to us and the other things don't get in our way usually.
Creating a TUS specific Discord server would benefit this website and be kept seperate from any other server which has nothing to do with TUS.
Especially when you take into consideration the amount of channels that would be useful:
Matchmaking - Singles
Matchmaking - Clanners
Playoffs
Tournaments
Challenges
Cups
General Chat
Every time a new Cup starts, the moderators can create a channel specific to it so players can easily find each other and organize games.
People in communities and clans can have tags specific to them, so you can easily organize clanners by tagging specific clans/people.
To be honest, the vision I had for a TUS Discord server is worth more than just throwing it into an already existing Discord, TUS is WA's longest running main league, it deserves to be shown respect.
I prefer quality over quantity, throwing everything together in one channel is messy and just plain bad in my opinion.

The good thing about Discord is you can setup specific access for specific channels, so the only admin rights I would want in the Discord, if any, would be the same that I have here, Tournaments and Challenges. The rest of the moderators do their job well and I think that would translate well over onto Discord also.

SIBASA, while I appreciate the effort, this needs to be done by official staff at TUS and ran by TUS moderators.
I highly recommend people if they join the server created by SIBASA to keep in mind it was not made by TUS staff and the design/moderation should definitely not be associated with TUS.

I concur with Komito. I also would like to add that, SIBASA is in my honest opinion, is not the ideal choice to run TUS discord server. This is simply because of language barrier, & his lack of keen sense of understanding of communication, expression, & awareness, particularly in English. This is not a jab at SIBASA, he seem to be a good guy, he just wants to do right thing, and I am sure he is very capable in his own native language. But to take on a huge task managing a TUS discord server, as a infrastructure of TUS, he perhaps lack quality of language communication. This is why TUS staff excels, they know how to communicate, make unbiased decision to best of their ability. If I am wrong about SIBASA, surely then are we talking about instating him part of TUS staff? Well, either the case, I wouldn't mind if he is qualified. As longest it makes WA great....

As a counter to Komito's objection to partnering with an established server: You can create multiple channels and group them under a specific heading. A number of community servers already do this.
My feeling is that isn't doesn't make sense to have yet another Discord server when the community already has a handful of "accepted" servers. Partnering with an existing server makes the most sense for community cohesion, IMO, and may also give TUS reach to people who may not have been aware of it previously.

Yes, and I prefer to avoid communities that do this, I prefer to be in specific servers for specific things, which is one reason why I left Sensei's Discord server. There was too much going on and it was too much of a distraction for me personally.
Personally speaking, if TUS did move to Discord, i'd rather have it as it's own entity, rather than being thrown in with something that is not directly involved.
I would not want to nagivate TUS Discord as part of another server, personally I do not want to be a part of Sensei's server and even if it was another server I do want to be a part of I still wouldn't want to merge them.
I believe it would be neater and more specifically useful to have it under it's own isolated server which is easier to manage and full of people who are directly involved in that website/League.
Also, i'd like to have full notifications for the entire server, without having to disable everything else included in Sensei's server.

I do not want to be a part of Sensei's server, should I be forced to join that server? I believe it's fairer to have a unique server to serve a specific purpose and require people to join, than force them to join a server they do not wish to be involved with just to be involved in something they have been a fan of for over a decade.
TUS existed well before Sensei's server, to me it's more important than Sensei's server.
TUS has always existed as an individually recognized entity, and I personally feel like it would be disrespectful to insert it into an already existing "Worms Armageddon" Discord which isn't even ran by official Team17 staff.

I do not intend to insult you, but do not think you should have created this Discord in the first place, it felt extremely disappointing when I joined there only to realise it was not an official server and immediately left.
I'd personally like to see the official TUS staff design a server themselves and also create it themselves, it would have a much more satisfying feeling of release.
It's like, waiting for a new release of one of your favourite franchises, only to be met with a cheap knock off brand...
I'd rather have nothing at all, than an unofficial server, or be bundled in amongst someone else's crap.

Without MI's recognition of this discord server, I will see it as unofficial.

I agree, TUS needs a dedicated discord. I don't participate in Sensei's server because there's much information going on in a short period of time, I feel uncomfortable.
I have nothing against Sensei's or the way they manage it, I just prefer very specific servers.

Although I recognize the importance of his server, I agree and feel the same.

I think Sensei is doing a good job but I don't see a need for a TUS Discord channel. Over the past 15 years, I've seen too many messenger applications come and go (remember Xfire hype?) and none of those messengers never fully united members because we live in different part of the world. In each country there is one or two popular chat applications and that's it.
My solution is to unite members via TUS itself. It was a decision I had made way before this topic. The next version of TUS has:
- Live messaging + @mention feature
- Live notifications on TUS and TUS mobile app
- Private chats between members (both 1v1 chat and custom group chat. You can invite any member into your custom private chat group)
- Clans and community chat
- TUS public channel (current shoutbox)
- Custom public channels made by members (for the purpose of managing events)
I've coded about 60% of the above. Attached the sneak pics. (Komo I've shared a part of our private chat which was harmless, hope you don't mind)
I don't know about the release time. The amount of coding and ideas are overwhelming and I'm coding on daily basis. Moving forward one step at a time.

Yes it is possible. TUS will have a match making system, so no need to do tags like @singles but yes it is possible to do tags.

I haven't looked into Twitch API but it's a common thing, it should be possible.

The only other thing I was hoping for was a heightened state of notification for those involved in Tournaments, Challenges and Cups.
So where you were saying you can create your own chat groups, if Cups could automatically create groups of chats for players:
16 player Cup, split into 4 groups, TUS app automatically creates 4 groups and assigns each player to their appropriate group as defined by the pairings.
Then when it reaches the knockout stage, a new group is automatically generated, once groups are finished, those groups will automatically be disabled/deleted and the group winners moved into the KO group. Maybe even a "Thank you for participating" message could be left.
Does this seem like something you could do, or even more important, do other people also think this is a good idea or am I alone?

Well what you described is possible to code, but I don't know how effective it could be. Maybe it works. I'll give it a try.
