Chicken again talking about in-game ranks and less leagues...

I don't think in-game ranks are that important, I don't think this would change things so much, but it would be cool to have this as we see in other games, like in League of Legends that has "masteries" for each character you play. There could have masteries for the different schemes of WA. And masteries are not the same thing as ranks, it's based on how much effort and games you played with that specific thing. Ranks like bronze, silver, gold, platinum for each scheme could be interesting too and maybe one general rank.

Now let's talk about your analogy of the 3 cinemas village. Why don't you let the owners of each cinema decide to close or not the cinema? There will be one moment that the effort on trying to maintain the cinema working won't be worth and it will close, because people will choose to watch films in other cinemas. Ruling the village as a politician and stating that only one cinema should exist won't make the population watch more movies.

I really dislike all the times I see you saying that WA being a sandbox is the cause of the lack of activity we have now. WA being a sandbox is what gave activity to this game all these years. It's a characteristic of the game that people enjoyed. There is still a good amount of people creating new weapons either on PX or wkJellyWorm, if you and some players only enjoy playing the same 3 or 4 schemes it's a niche of the community the same way there are several different niches players enjoy in this community.

The reason for the lack of activity we all know that has to do with Team17 and the fact we have only 2 developers and some other contributors that update the game once every several years while in other games we have big updates every week. It's hard to compete with all existing games with 2 developers and a company that never heard so much these devs and the community.

Chicken23

Sorry but I disagree and I'll say my reasons why again but it's unlikely to connivence you.

It's just simple math. What made worms so good in the glory era and TUS's first inception was the activity. Back then we had fewer scheme options and less of a sandbox so we had 'less things to play', that meant that there was more people playing the same thing and therefore more activity, more emerging players etc etc.

Now a days we have so much choice and selection and because of that, over the years the limited activity was divided across so many ways of playing worms. Therefore there were smaller communities and groups of players but it is less appealing to come back and play WA competitively because you get to be the big fish in a small pond, instead of the big fish in an ocean.

For example, If kaos and some of these other schemes never existed I think we'd have a more active allround league or more active ONL.

In the last 6 years or so we've split the activity across too many things are the disadvantage to competitive play across all those things.

Even TUS has a silly number of accepted schemes for playoff picks which makes it demotivating to bother playing as someone can now pick tower rr, big rr etc. back when we just had elite, t17, bng, shop, wxw, ttrr, rope and hyst things were way better.

Of course this is all subjective and it's just my opinion. It doesn't mine I'm right or you guys are wrong. It's just how I personally feel about the direction of WA.

And back to ranks. In game ranks and secure logins and easier hosting would save this game because the newbies would stay and we would have new players coming into the game, that's why we are declining because there isn't any support for new players. So I agree about the lack of support from t17

TheKomodo

Things were good back then because we had no idea how the game would evolve, but once you've gotten used to all the things that the modern game delivers, you just can't go back.

I would be bored out of my skull if we suddenly went back to those days, knowing what I know now, you would have to brainwash everyone so they would forget everyhing that exists now which is quite frankly night and day better than how it was back then.

We have MUCH better schemes, MUCH better defined rulesets, MUCH better technology, MUCH better level of gameplay thanks to the evolution of game mechanics not to mention much better content in general including maps etc.

That's the ONLY thing that the past had that's better, activity, everything else is better now. I won't trade quality for quantity sorry.

I'd love to see an automatic matchmaking system, secure logins, official rankings, but it's highly unlikely to happen. People have got so bored they've started cheating openly in funners again it's pathetic.

Yes, but now it's like almost every game hosted is Kaos. Only Kradie often hosts some Roper or Big RR.
People don't even know all these schemes WA has to offer man :(

As mentioned I really do think the vision that MI has for the leagues will help and I certainly will play TUS again when that change happens. It was really frustrating when TTL was active that there was 2 ladders for same scheme at once. What MI is going to do will help the current player base.

But the new player base, retaining new players is all in the hands of team17. I was hoping that the move of wormnet to a new T17 server and that T17 guy in Sensei's discord would be a positive thing where maybe there is the ability for secure logins and easy hosting. Even that without in game ranks would make a huge difference. But I don't think cybershadow and Deadcode have heard anything from them about it. I just don't understand why that isn't priority number one on the update lists.

We do have better schemes these days but unfortunately very few people play them.

Long gone are the days where players aspire to ascend to the ranks of roping legends like it was back in the day.

It is good that there is abundance of schemes to choose from on WA, and there is certainly a plentiful of schemes that deserves more recognition, especially some of my own (imo). But I would like to wager that the reason some of these schemes doesn't get enough room to shine, is because of the power of the classics. These classics as I understand are: Intermediate, BnG, Elite, Team17, Shopper, WxW, TTRR, and Roper. The newer classics are: Kaos, Mole, Aerial, and hysteria. Why do we need more schemes? I think the schemes I mentioned are more than enough. These schemes are more established than any other scheme Including most of those that are in Free League. Most people know what these schemes are, and what to expect from them. People who only specializes in obscure schemes (good or not), won't be as Inclined to play the established schemes, and the same goes for the rest. Majority lies with the established.

Keep league simple, with schemes that tests the best attributes and quality of player. Keep it condensed because we are small community.

funny how you mention that, in Hedgewars (FOSS clone of Worms), the two schemes played there these days are Highlander and Monarchy, all based on random weapons and unlimited attacks
