moving to the new update
« on: August 03, 2014, 08:55 AM »
I know, most of you are already used to the roping on the newest updates, but now when classic league can be  played only with 3.7 update there is players who may try to move on it in the near future..
personally for me getting used to the new update roping was pain in the ass, but why is that? in fact nothing has changed except drawing modes. Well, thats the problem.. or to be more preсise, fps (frames per second) it gives.
It may sound strange but since there is no fps limit on the previous versions players got used to the very large values of FPS and even very small FPS drop that we cant notice still makes roping feels much more different, simply because we are used to a different FPS. If you played ttrr alot in past you probably already noticed that roping on a png map feels kinda strange, it become obvious once you realize W:A works a bit slower when it draw color maps instead of bit.
So.. back to the problem. To get the same rope feeling as before you gotta get the same fps, thats the key. And for that purpose you'll need a prog such as fraps or any other fps counter, next step is: check what fps you have on the old update, for me it was ~500fps, and the last step: setup new update to achieve closest FPS to the one you had on the previous update which is pretty hard because none of modes works as fast as the 3.6. update, at least for me.. so you gotta experiment with draw modes, if none of them is fast enough try to set a smaller resolution, it will speed up the game alot. good luck in moving to the new update:D

How did you ever manage to notice the difference between 500fps and 100fps? Do you have a display capable of refreshing the whole screen that fast?

im talking not about display framerate but rather keyboard respond. your display may refresh 50 times per sec but the game itself will work on 1k fps

you'll never understand this until you become a decent ttrr player

Just tested shader vs CPU, CPU renders at 370 fps on 1920x1080 and shader at 600 fps on 1920x1080. It felt a little different with almost half the fps, so imp is saying the truth. :O

Btw that's on the latest update. Dunno how much I have/had on old but I didn't have a r9 280x back then so I imagine it was less.

What if I say that image rendering and physics engine's input processing are different things? ;)

Oh, that's so familiar! Please moar.

check out project of the year: chelsea simulator, I rewrite a whole worms roping engine. I know how the things works here much better than you

this is not "act like Steps alias" contest, i wonder why you are trying to prove you are smartass by using  words like "input" and "processing"
ttrr newbies like you wont notice the difference between the versions anyway so you are free to skip this topic

from now on i will ignore your poor trolling, thanks

Leave me out of what you've got between StepS and you, and please let me understand why do you talk about things which you have clearly no idea of, and make assumptions on them with all your blind haughtiness, but fail to understand the basic terminology?

Oh dude, good! I've never doubted you! Well done! Maybe more?

Do you have anything else, more valuable to say, besides calling me a ttrr newbie not willing to join your 1337 pr0 ttrr clu6, a StepS alias or a smartass?

Impo, have you tried: http://www.kegetys.fi/d3d-antilag-v1-01/
It will slightly decrease the fps, but reduce input lag. I can't rope without it on my laptop due to input lag.
It shouldn't be needed. Assisted Vsync prevents input lag, and I don't see a reason for not enabling it.
Dec 30 2013 23:59:44 <StepS> windowed mode isn't the only thing you need about frontend
Dec 30 2013 23:59:49 <StepS> you need it to be actually bigger
Dec 31 2013 00:00:13 <StepS> it actually is very small on my 15-inch full HD screen
Dec 31 2013 00:00:25 <StepS> while running at 640x480 or stretched mode makes it fuzzy
Dec 31 2013 00:00:44 <StepS> this problem has been around since the Worms Armageddon's release and no one has even tried to beat it

Can we see some system specs, Impo? Thanks.

I'm fairly sure this "Assisted Vsync" is triple buffering, that adds 1 frame of input lag, and in addition to that the fps gets locked at 60 50.
No. Assisted Vsync checks the stage (scan line) at which the picture is currently being drawn. In short words, it's a manual algorithm that bypasses the default vsync behavior. The game itself runs at 50 fps internally, however if you launch a benchmarker, you'll see that 60 actual frames are being drawn. It's just that those 10 frames are identical to their respective ancestors.
