Nice topic mate :)

I really can't remember who 1st showed me roping, but I guess I learned with HoS players, Nimmer, BigC, LeaderMagiKarp(ropa) and I think the name was eliteboyz(TheSheriFF). Man, I was like, 12 then lol... f@#!ing 25 now rofl... I've played WA more than half my life now...

I don't remember when I couldn't rope. Too many concussions I guess.

I only spent a lot of time teaching everything I knew to one guy. He turned into a total ass after awhile and I never took the time to try to teach anyone again. Forget his name.

Interesting topic indeed.

Who taught you Avi?

TheSheriff would be an awesome guy to learn from. You're pretty lucky if you got taught to rope by him. He had nice ropes b4 nice ropes existed.

the guy who showed me this game taught me to rope , the basic stuff , he wasnt known since he never played leagues or competitive stuff , just fun ...

after that , Mry ( aka mystery , Jimmy , Jaime) taught me to rope with finger roll , and twyrfher helped me to refine the roping (to win)

i havent taught to no1 ,  at least i dont remember being a rope teacher...

Tbh I think players like me, ropa, dub-c, avirex, chicken etc the people all playing 10-15 years, have literally gave bits of advice and help and corrections to probably hundreds and hundreds of players over the years.
Title: Re: reminiscing-
Post by: franz on July 29, 2011, 05:53 AM
just roping around, but no real formal teaching, I learned from playing with a few people like alienelite, earthwormjim, even goaty (strange guy)
then there were the popular ropers that I tried to play with to get better like marco, thesheriff, jmoberg, illazz, pointblank, tenchi, even komo ;p

we all just sort of learned from each other, watching everyone's styles
Title: Re: reminiscing-
Post by: TheKomodo on July 29, 2011, 05:57 AM
Yeah everyone you mentioned, are some of the people I used to play with the most, including you in Warmers :)

I think you teach yourself to rope, you cant teach muscle memory.

Moose was the first "good" roper I remember playing with, he gave me some warm words and advice xd
Title: Re: reminiscing-
Post by: darKz on July 29, 2011, 01:37 PM
I think I learned the basics of roping myself by playing Shoppers with Master of Disaster.. There's two guys who had an impact on my roping though, one was aenimic who taught me how to twitch and the other was MavericK (PL) who taught me how to fingerroll.. Of course those are only tapping methods but they still make a difference in the overall style. ;)

And seriously I can't remember the guys who I taught some basics about roping.. Most were random guys, then some of my real life mates.. And so on. :D
Title: Re: reminiscing-
Post by: avirex on July 29, 2011, 01:53 PM
pointblank has recently been back, and playing...  illazz was cool dude!!   and.... did u knnow that jmoberg was very young?  or atleast thats what i heard? :D

but ok, guaton and franz, you guys have to go out and teach atleast 1 newb, and report back to this thread.. k? haheha

guaton, yes, if you teach yourself something, we will count that as teaching a newb, good luck

I learned RRing from a german called breach back in the days when evil RR maps were still popular. It's too bad I forgot how to RR :(

I think I learned how to rope by watching MDK, Kiyari, and Qstorm.  Quite honestly I don't think there is anything to learn besides learning the momentum and rope angles, which you learn in a few days.  As far as roping style goes, I started picking up good shit from jmo, volrin, marco.
Title: Re: reminiscing-
Post by: skunk3 on August 12, 2011, 02:14 AM
Volrin. 'nuff said.

I did learn a lot from MDK, TheSheriff, and Shady as well. Volrin was by far the most influential, and best.

I learned by myself I guess?
But I suppose when I most improved was the time WWP was active and the years after it died, the aliasing and the warming with Anubis really had me on my roping toes.
shady, komo, jmo, the ToP guys, I guess the cotunless warming hours with them have made me the incredible super roper I am today
Title: Re: reminiscing-

i was in ToP as an alias... when i switched from w2 to w:a i was mainly in clans with TheKrow, MadJeff, TheSheriff, and Tyrant (bunny)

but i told ToP i was a guy from w2 name Mercedes and i joined! was pretty fun, being my clan with those guys and ToP were the 2 best clans atm

i miss the alias days... i was actually going to suggest to MI making an alias clan league..

aliases can make names and clans in order to compete, not post at forums...

it would just increase the chances of finding 2v2 competetive games (my favorite) and kinda add spice to the game.. not rly knowing who your playing...

have not really thought out the details... but i think it would be fun... make alias clans of groups of 4 people... prolly ppl that are not in ur normal clan so u can get to know others and hf...

alias clans can only  compete against alias clans, and reg clans vs reg clans.

now even sre if its a good idea, but i think it sounds fun.

like, when you cant find a regular clanner, maybe some alias clan is in ag asking :D

just thought it would be interesting for a season...

ok nino.. lets make a team... i will be "troll" you can be "bull" and we will call "amped" too? :D
Title: Re: reminiscing-
Post by: TheKomodo on August 14, 2011, 06:50 AM
avi, that is actually a great idea lol...

If EVERYONE was allowed to make ONE alias clan, but they MUST PM MI to confirm it, so people can't multi-alias and alias clans could clan any normal clan, I think that'd be f@#!ing awesome !

It'd possibly double the activity and games played, make the top clans more competitive with mixed best players in other clans together...

If you reached PO with both clans, you would have to play for your "real" clan.

It's fun to imagine at least :)

At start it was SupremE aka Makaveli (german one). I even called him on phone lol, his name is Gregor.
Later on SfX/NBR/NsK/DWI guys influenced me, in one game Amazed told me the fastest tapper is oijogja. So then I started to learn how to tap faster.

People I wanna mention for credit that helped me rope better/think out of the box: Supreme, erod, ropa (all the aliasing), Tjerp, shady, volrin, Kiyari, spalding (competitive roping), oijogja... the list goes on and on.

And like ropa says: In alias clans you (me at least) play better, you focus on new styles. I would of not won the style contest if I roped as Anubis but instead roped as DeathInFire which unlocked a whole new way of thinking in Warmers. In WWP I started in vP or something, it was a clan from Chicken23 and my name was Highlander and I only did BnG on a very high level, WWP actually had a good pool of bngers, I wonder what happened to them and if they made the change to W:A when WWP died. Would be quite a challenge for Komo. :)

However! Aliasing is good, count me in. :)
Title: Re: reminiscing-
Post by: TheKomodo on August 20, 2011, 10:44 AM
Lol Kai, thought you said it was me who influenced you to become the fastest?

Alot of BnG players on WWP were WA BnG players also, like Plutonic for example.

Post by: Anubis on August 20, 2011, 11:40 AM
Well my fastest taps are two handed taps which I learned because of yours, but they became rather useless for control. So yeah they might be the fastest but I sticked to FR. It's still nice to show them off, even on unmodded space they are incredible fast. :)

Even though I've been playing worms since 1999 (online in WWP since early 2002), I was pretty much a shoppa guy until 2004. When I switched back to WA, Bonhert (vel zEr0) was the first "serious" player I became friends with. I remember playing lots of RRs as a total noob with him, he was probably losing patience sometimes. :D Then I started learning by watching replays of good players and trying to mimic the roping techniques.

I managed to develop my own "tappy-go-lucky" roping style later in 2005, which I use to this day. :P

years ago on w2 it was roper-y who was also wh@@ler and eventually became infamous as ransom i believe for w2forum although i'd stopped playing by then

large up to the man where ever he is these days as he took time to show me how to rope properly when i was absolutely shit

played the odd roper with mildew and co and was amazed at how good they were as i was pretty awful then and lost a huge amount of games on cases over the years

Nice thread and nice seeing so many names pop up. Even tho they are all mainly ropers i remember clanning against plenty of them and also being good mates with some of those ropers mentioned.

ToP was funny and i allaised as Doughboy and did some of the bngs, t17s and elite/pros for them..Fabrassoue and Hippy were keen to recuit me back then. vP was fun and i knew anubis was highlander and it was when he was dominating bng as mentioned. vP went on to become a very strong wwp clan and me and anubis had the likes of deano, almog and jigsaw in our team. Then anubis left to make a clan with spalding and shark and they became our rivals but me, jigsaw and almog became a very solid team and would like to think i helped jigsaw get into default schemes, when we first meet him and konrad (his polish friend) were just br and bng guys. vP also had a guy named penzo aka ispec aka evo and i helped him became a solid bnger.. Mablak remembers penzo being a pro when he first started on wwp. ha.

Like komodo said, some players have helped alot of other players over the years and i've had countless friends in wa and in wwp. I've played funners and clanners with them and would like to think i've helped developed their defaulting and bng skills.
Over the past 5-7 years i wouldn't say ive had any 'students' as such but alot of strong ropers have joined CKC and became solid allrounders as they were involved in more default/bng.

As for me, my teachers were HoS at the start of my career, MaxDamage, Link and IBB were all roping and i'd warm with them, but their roping was for league style and clans like HoS and TEA dominated the leagues because they could also bng and elite. I pick up bng pretty quickly and remember beating HoS, TEA and EiF in clanners against well established players like Liberty, menacedog, gangsta, Custick, Hitman, ImTheChampion, Hammy, Hermit,.. I also had good friends with BnGKs and psydome, rexnotce, Reddo. Was also some great bngers like sk8n who i first saw floor banking shots come from and exploding on inpact even before lg was in the scheme. Then dweeb would rock with his clan SACKEM.

As for elite i have Griffix to thanks, he dominated elite back in the ranks and had a red flaming bar and was one of the few to rival MPH in the scheme. Then their was the stage where I knocked MPH out of the wl awards tourney where i felt i was becoming a pretty solid default player. I sadly lost that tourney in the final to volcom.. the pro schemed decider was played on a 2 level cavern map haha.

But some great eliters over the years who helped me develop and would be Griffix, Crazyworm, MaxDamage, IBB, sharky (narka), Liberty, phanty, and Mil2 more recently. This all predate probably the last 7 years. Now a days the level of elite is way higher and has alot more stronger players... , Im not as feared as i once was  :o Although put cavern maps, cr8s, different styled open maps instead of always 2 islands and aload more varried selected team weapons and you'd see a different style of elite to today..
