TUS will probably have a matchmaking system that will help people to find players on their level. Also, it will help newbies don't be kicked or insulted so often. It would be good to have a in-game ranking system as I heard it had in the past, it would be good to be similar to what is like in League of Legends, you choose to play ranked or a fun game and join a matchmaking queue. If TUS apply a matchmaking system, that would help a lot I think. Maybe players would have to wait a while, because this game is not as played as others of the trend right now. It is way better to wait than keep trying to send messages to multiple people, spamming on the chat for games, or hosting and dealing with beginners that are not on the same level when you are not in the mood to teach them and help them understand the game.
Edit: another thing that is complicated is that Worms has thousands of game modes and each player enjoys usually a limited amount of schemes. This could cause a scheme queue to be longer than others and the not-so-high amount of players that play competitively would be split due to different schemes. It is better to try than keep things the way they are.
