I agree that it would be much easier to trust your company if you were more transparent -- care to elaborate why you're staying anonymous?

NFT discussion aside, you'll find that most people in this community are jaded when it comes to worms clones as they never seem to get to the core of what makes the 2nd generation worms games great (though some of the more recent projects are much better). I'm generally interested and supportive of any game that takes inspiration from the worms series. I'd like to hear more about the direction you're heading with the game. Here's a few questions:

  • How closely do you plan on taking inspiration from the W2 engine?
  • Will the snails and other game entities be fully animated to the degree of worms?
  • Will the weapons (strength, availability, drop rate, etc) and gameplay (timer, # of snails, health, whether or not terrain is destructible, etc) be customizable from match to match?
  • How much will the meta-progression elements affect the game? Will there be a more competitive mode where meta progression doesn't impact the game? (Like Gunbound did)
  • What game engine are you using?

I think offering these kinds of details will probably help to get people here more excited. You also need to overcome the hurdle of people being concerned that you're just an NFT company and not a game studio. I think for you to be taken seriously in the gaming world and by worms players, you probably should emphasis more specifics about the game rather than the NFT side of things. I think the last thing that most players (especially worms fans) want right now is a pay to win game. Most modern competitive games that have the loot-box/battlepass/etc model have purely cosmetic unlockables.

If you're like me and you sometimes want to play worms competitively but are struggling to find the right match, you might like worms speedrunning! You don't have to rely on finding an opponent and the various categories available for running are all very competitive. You also get tons of general worms practice when speedrunning that'll improve your league/cup competitive play.

We're a very collaborative and helpful community and will gladly help anyone interested in trying out speedrunning.

For W:A, the main two categories are All Missions Any% and Deathmatch Any%.. doing all missions is fun because it's all about your execution on carefully crafted strategies. There's also still room for finding new strategies that save time. The world record for all missions is getting dangerously close to sub-1hr (Mablak has 1hr 6min): https://www.speedrun.com/worms_armageddon#All_Missions

Deathmatch is completely different, requiring you to adapt to rng and show off your general worms skills. Since the deathmatch scheme is close to intermediate, it's a good category to hone your intermediate skills with.

There's work being done to speed run worms 2, worms world party, and worms reloaded as well.

Does Team17 care? No.. they haven't been actively involved in W:A development for like 20 years..

Deadcode? Of course he cares and reads suggestions, but you have to remember that he's seen thousands of suggestions and also already has a massive backlog of more core and important work to do on W:A. I think http://feedback.worms2d.info/forums/5998-worms-armageddon is probably a better way to discuss and surface suggestions anyways, as it has a more structured way to show consensus.

me and albino played and won. I can't work out who could be our next possible opponent as double elimination confuses me.

surely it should work that the winners from winner bracket should avoid eachother..?

therefore me and albino can only play winners from loser bracket? and Senator and Vok and can only play other winners from loser bracket?

No that's not how it works in double elimination Chicken -- there will only be one winning team from the winners bracket, and that team will play the winners of the losers bracket in the final match.

This cup started out great. It's a shame it got stalled this way.

Yeah, I think a bunch of people just went inactive over time, and it's especially hard for 2v2s. Since we're nearing the deadline, I'm going to start being more strict.

From now on, I ask that all attempts at scheduling games be done in this forum thread so that I can see who's making a real effort. I'm going to start it off by requiring a check-in.

If you're still in this cup and want to proceed, reply here with your availability. If you fail to do so in the next week, you and your teammate will forfeit your place. You have until Dec 21, 12:00AM GMT.

Ok I've progressed the matchups against walrus/oldsock -- sorry to hear you guys aren't able to play.

Sorry for this cup taking so long -- I think with timezone differences and the fact that it's a 2v2, this cup has been especially hard for players to be active in. I've sort of come to the conclusion that cups like this just aren't really that good for w:a since we're all so spread out. It would probably have been better to have just done a weekend tournament or something.

I'm not going to move the deadline up -- the deadlines are kind of pointless anyways. Message me on Discord if you feel like your opponents aren't responsive and I'll resolve it.

In order to get closer to what the eventual in-game option to play WWP or other custom missions may look like, I think a module that allows you to update which missions are loaded in the WA frontend (maybe with some extra UI) would be amazing. I know that wkTerrainSync has some mission loading stuff, but it's not the full mission set experience that you have with the built-in missions and it's not ideal if you want to play all of the missions in a sequence, say for speedrunning.

I think what the module would need to do is hook in to the mission frontend and allow the user to override the hard-coded mission index. Right now WA expects a specific # of missions and maps mission names (ids, essentially) to image files. So you'd want the ability to specify your own mapping of mission names to images. Maybe it would even be possible to modify the game to read it from the wam files, and just have it load wam files in alphanumeric order.

I don't have the skillset to write modules, so looking to see if anyone who does is interested in collaborating on this.

I wonder if nizikawa could add a feature to the module to print out your own worm order at the beginning of a match?

I can add a command to lobby or game chat - something like "/order print" would send a chat message with the order of worms belonging to you.
Doing this in game chat is effortless with current code, doing this in lobby requires some additional work.

Doing it in-game is great because it gets added to the replay.

At this point to ensure fairness, I'd rather just have a rule that both sides need to state their team order before the match, which is something I'll do from now on either way.

And for most Inter / 80-normal matches, both sides already know each other's order anyway, so this wouldn't change much imo.

I just don't want to do this through a mod since people should be able to play league games with just the regular game, though showing team order would be fine if we wanted to do it as an official feature.
