General discussion / Re: WA is on life support
« on: July 18, 2021, 05:20 PM »
I think these numbers speak for themselves in regards to WA online player activity.
https://steamcharts.com/app/217200#7d

keep in mind that these numbers are only for steam users, and it doesn't matter if they are connected to wormnet or not, they may as well be idle in the main menu. you also need to add up data from before August 2012, as well as CD and GOG releases, and any potential pirates

Even if you grant they are steam users, that doesn't cut against Kradie's objection to Skunk.

Skunk said the game is slowing to a trickle compared to what it once was. Kradie's graph showed upward trending activity over time, although it looks like it's going through a slight downswing right now.

Suggesting users could be idle in menus and that affecting the data doesn't go through as an objection, either.  You'd have to consistently levy that factor across the data and explain why people are hardly ever idle in menus (when the graph shows low activity) and why people are routinely idle in menus (when the graph shows high activity). Good luck showing an argument for that intuition lol. If idle menu time was controlled for I see no reason why we wouldn't suspect the activity data on the graph to still trend upward.

Unless there's better data out there, seems like Skunk's claim is obviously false, unless your notion of "slowing to a trickle" is actually "trending upward".

And by the way, that's ^ compatible with the claim that activity overall is lower than what it was pre-steam prime era. But Skunk specifically made a claim about the direction activity is trending.

I just don't like the wideness of the roping in Big RR. I like tight spaces where you have to be precise and efficient.  Don't quit worms, I'm back forever!

I just found my CD after 5 years and put a snooper in Wormnet since.  Still love this game. It's still very fun to go for crazy stuff. I alternate between playing WA and Super Smash Bros. Melee.  The hardest thing is finding a good player to play. Please come back and let's play!

Some shitty things i've noticed with this new era of worms

Big RR is absolutely miserable... you can't see shit when you drop down from high heights and it's just shit. How does anyone enjoy this? Nooby wxw type roping zzzzz

Why does everyone play mole with x2 damage at the beginning? Ruins the scheme :(
i think you were playing rubber mole.

I don't have rubber installed.

Also seems like every mole has someone invading me turn one and then it's up to the luck of the crates if I can defend myself. Stupid times on wormnet

Yeah you're right, Western media has field days over the most meaningless shit.  I should have said the only people who get more upset than AMERICANS at a celebrity death are Gazans because they see how much US really cares about them, etc...  I for one don't want my taxes funding a genocide in Gaza, but a scary percentage of people here don't even realize we back Israel, but they could tell you what their favorite celebrity had for dinner last night in a heartbeat.  There's Gaza stuff and other world stuff every day in US media, too, but I guess my point is people ultimately don't care about it because they don't have to worry about the conflict here at home and something like a celebrity death is more appealing to them because they're familiar with the person, etc...

Just disregard my troll posts, seems worms always brings out the passive aggressive in me lol

When an American celebrity dies, everyone gets sad, especially the people from places like Gaza because they see the rest of the world clearly doesn't give a shit about them.

RIP Robin Williams

Yeah, it's all about him being american and not about being a super mainstream actor that has done movies for all ages or the fact it was suicide.

Far more than one person commits suicide a day, he just happened to be famous.  All of a sudden, everyone cares about depression and suicide... and then they'll forget caring when the next major celebrity story rolls by.  The death of Robin Williams is surely sad for anyone who was a fan of him, but there's a major disproportion of news exposure between serious, large scale travesties in the world and the universe of celebrities.  Social media and news outlets were instantly dominated by this Robin William's story, and will continue to be dominated for weeks to come.  Even the worms league is covering it lol.  All this sympathy and emotional outpouring for one person, meanwhile, how many people in Africa, Gaza, Ukraine, etc... have to die for people to care on the same level?  Of course him being American means something, our planet is peppered with American influence

It appears I already have VMware tools installed and running... so yeah... what should I try next?

Mac is better than PC for my purposes.
