TUS Discussion / Re: off topic forum
« on: February 24, 2021, 08:43 PM »
Freedom of speech is defined at the government level. It simply means you won't get arrested for expressing yourself. This website is personal and pretty much my territory. It's completely free. There's not one single Ad on it either. I don't owe it to anyone. I can run it however I want with any policy that I like. It has nothing to do with free speech. You are invited to my "house" and if I ask you to take your shoes off before entering, you have to get along with that. (if you still want to come in of course)

TUS is an international website with one concern: supporting W:A players.  I don't want off-topic controversial topics to be discussed. In your own country you can't come to a common conclusion with your own nation. Imagine this is an international website. Members come from different countries, cultures, races, ages, genders, languages etc...

Even though we have an off topic forum, but it is still a W:A website and in my opinion it should  be used for harmless (vanilla) subjects. I'm an adult and I can deal with many subjects but would you refer a 13-years-old to TUS as the main W:A community? Can they handle controversial topics? or let's ask a better question: Is it really necessary to come to a Worms website and read unrelated controversial comments? My answer is no and since it is my house, then "no" it is.

If you like to discuss these subjects, I'm pretty sure you can find far more better forums out there than "a 20+ year old game of cartoon worms blowing each other up with ridiculous weapons" forums.

(I have modified your post and cut the second half for obvious reasons. You tend to post the same concept any time you get a chance. I strongly suggest you to find the appropriate site/community for discussing those)

No, freedom of speech is a natural right, not a privilege granted by authority.

As far as this site being yours, sure it is. You can enforce any rules you want, and I am not obligated to participate. The fact that you are censoring/editing my posts indicates to me that this isn't the place for me. I have no idea who you are and I'm not sure if I have ever once seen you on WormNET (despite the fact that I've been around since day one), so the whole situation irks me.

As far as some random 13-year-old coming to this website, I am sure that they have encountered far worse on the internet. They also are not compelled to read posts and replies in an off-topic subforum, but I digress. It doesn't matter.

I could understand this sort of pre-emptive vigilance if the game community in question was new, or at risk of being inundated with young players, but that simply is not the case with W:A and never will be. I personally couldn't care less if the off-topic forum gets removed, but I do think it would be a shame because it's probably the most interesting sub-forum on this site because it's not all about Worms.

Regarding what I've personally said: I simply don't care if anyone gets offended or not. In fact, I think that being genuinely 'offended' by something you read on the internet is a hallmark of a weak person. We are communicating to each other internationally using aliases and avatars on a game forum dedicated to a 20+ year old game of cartoon worms blowing each other up with ridiculous weapons. If you get offended by anything you read on this site, I find that ridiculously pathetic.

"Wokeism" is trash and needs to end. People have different opinions, and just because *your* opinions might currently be on the side of what is socially acceptable (as promoted by the media / social media), that doesn't mean they are any more valid than those of another. People also love to jump to conclusions and accuse people of this and that based upon their knee-jerk reactions to what someone says, and I find it all so nauseating and dumb. Morals and values are not universal.

General discussion / Re: Influential Wormer?
« on: February 08, 2021, 02:46 PM »
Deadcode, CyberShadow, FFie, MI, Crespo & Zemke
Could you please tell us from your own words who Crespo & Zemke were for the community of WA?

Depends on what 'influential' means. There's a lot of people who stood out for various reasons.
Could you provide one or few examples?
Well, there's some players who weren't super elite level players but who were highly fun to play with and talk to. Personality matters far more to me than skills. If you are cool and can make me laugh and enjoy the time spent chatting in game, that's far better than having skills. There's so many to name, but Fizix, Erod, Goaty, Jmoberg, Brudi, TheDogg, Chicken23, MagicalHobo, Yuurepoer, Kronik, Moose, Mr. E, Link (before he went crazy, I guess?), Toxic, Bathtubgin, Blaze, Stringking, Mook, and RobOne4 are just a few that come to mind as far as players from the past. Being an interesting person > being a good Worms player.

There's also other players who stand out in terms of skill in various schemes. No need to really mention those people as most people already know who they are. The first clan duo to really stand out to me were LordY and HippY. The past is full of amazing players, a few of which I didn't get along with because they took the game way too seriously and didn't know how to have fun. All they cared about was ranked, and I kinda always hated playing ranked games. It saps all the fun out of the game IMHO but that's just me. I'll play funners vs. anyone but when it 'counts' it adds a level of stress to the game that shouldn't be there. I play Worms to relax, not stress out lol.

I don't mind innovating when it comes to gaming, but to keep that innovation locked away behind proprietary consoles really sucks, especially when the consoles are lacking in power compared to other offerings, and also when a lot of the 'innovations' aren't really that great. I'd much rather be able to buy Nintendo titles on Playstation (my preferred platform) and purchase accessories if necessary. A lot of the innovations that Nintendo have implemented are gimmicky and not very good in general, and I say that having owned most of them at one point or another.

I don't necessarily want an 'adult gaming experience' from my console/games - I just want quality games that are fun to play and have a good replay value. Nintendo's games are great... I just hate their consoles. The Switch is a total piece of shit, hardware-wise. The joycons in particular are so fragile and prone to breakage that you might as well buy a replacement pair the moment you buy a Switch. It also just feels awkward as hell playing a Switch. It's not ergonomic at all, everything feels tiny (at least for adult hands) and the screen quality isn't very good. The Wii U was a joke. The original Wii was interesting when it first came out but for me the novelty factor wore off quickly. It was pretty fun for casual 4 player local gameplay, like if you are hanging out and drinking with friends or whatever... but for more serious gaming? Nah. The Gamecube had some decent games on it but for idiotic reasons Nintendo decided to not go with a standard DVD format and chose these tiny discs and weird controllers instead. The last decent console Nintendo made IMO was the N64, but even by then their main competitors had adopted CD-ROM as their format, which meant much better audio quality and more storage space for textures and whatnot. N64 was cool when it first came out but it has not aged as well as, say, the PS1 IMO. (PS1 also has vastly more good titles available for it.)

All that isn't even getting into the true handhelds and the gimmicks wrapped up therein. I have a soft spot in my heart for Nintendo but in recent years I've learned more and more about how they suck as a company (there's so many YouTube videos on this) and that combined with the gimmicks and games that never go on sale is enough to keep me away. Nintendo's online gaming service is also absolute garbage compared to Sony or Microsoft. Right now the best value in gaming is a used PS4, hands down.

If anyone feels the need to play WWP for whatever reason, they should only play the original. DO NOT bother with the 'remastered' version on Steam. It is a buggy pile of crap.

I bought this on sale and it is ridiculously hard. I don't know if it's because of the controls or what but I tried it with a keyboard and a controller and it is super difficult. I thought that as a fan of ninja roping I'd enjoy this game, but nope. It only visually resembles ninja roping. In practice it's very different. I refunded the game.

« on: January 29, 2021, 07:22 AM »
I have first-hand experience with this and I think it would appeal to kids but for adult gamers it's not worth it at all. In order to get the most out of it you really, really need to enjoy trying to think of course ideas in your home, setting them up, fine tuning the track and obstacles, etc. The gameplay itself isn't as fun as normal Mario Kart. The whole experience is a cool novelty, but the novelty factor wears off really fast; at least it did for me. It's basically like playing with a RC car with some Mario Kart flavor.

I used to really love Nintendo but these days I just can't support them. I like most of their 1st party IPs and games but I can't stand the company itself. The games hardly ever go on sale (if at all), the Switch itself is a total piece of crap in several ways, and Nintendo is always focusing on dumb gimmicks rather than trying to put out a system that can compete. There's many other valid reasons as to why people shouldn't support Nintendo nowadays but I won't bother. I wish Nintendo would just stop making systems altogether and release games for all platforms, even if that would require buying gimmicky peripherals.

I've tried Hedgewars several times and while it's not bad, WA is just so much better. Hedgewars is a good effort but it's a shame that talent and effort wasn't directed towards helping improve WA instead.

Off Topic / Re: Tattoos
« on: January 29, 2021, 07:01 AM »
Tattoos are lame. A long time ago they were cool and edgy and rebellious (like early 90's and before), but these days they are as trendy as it gets. They used to be for legit badasses, like gangsters, soldiers, sailors, and bikers. Where I live it is more common for someone to have at least 1 tattoo than to not have any, as long as they are under the age of ~45 or so, and especially if they are in their 20's / 30's... and the overwhelming majority of people who have tattoos are just normal people who aren't badass in any way.

I don't have any tattoos and probably will never get one. I think they look horrible on women and they make them look like trashy skanks. Tattoos ruin the natural beauty of a woman. I suspect that people get them primarily because they have low self-esteem and they think that getting tattooed will make them look 'cool' or 'sexy' or 'edgy.' It doesn't, at all. It's just makes them bandwagon-riding trendsters who are willing to undergo permanent body modifications in hopes of being liked more. It's kinda sad, really.

While we're on the topic of body modifications, I think most piercings are dumb too. In my city, septum piercings are *incredibly* common, especially amongst women in their 20's / 30's. They look f@#!ing horrible and I want to grab it and rip it out every time I see one.

I really wish that I had all of my replays from over the years but I never bothered backing any of them up. :/

Yeah Komito I remember alot of those people.
When I think about worms when I started it was juvenile with a clan VVV. Then it was just a tornado of amazing people. From clans like eif to hos to ac. I made so many dear friends that who knows where they went lol. What a awesome time that was. I couldn't even tell you who I roped with to tell you the truth. Link, maxdamage, omega, missingman, ganstas, cassius, psydome, jmoberg, herm, raven, the rest of the ac crew lol, chicken, dfwu guy,the know... I honestly think I could go on and on. Each one of them awesome in their own way.

The DFWU guy was Erod. Me and him and Goaty used to play together allllll the time.

And yes, 'pinball' is the 'FaTaL dance.' He's the one that figured it out and he's the one who started using it way before anyone else.

WA's best years were definitely 99-07. There was a time where the community was a bit split between WA and WWP but the crazy thing was we had enough players to actually support that. Neither game suffered from low population during that time, from what I remember. I am one of those players who adopted WWP almost instantly and it wasn't until quite a bit later, after WA had received some nice updates, that I went back to WA exclusively.

There's so many awesome and fun players who have been a part of this community over the years, and it kinda sucks that I forget a lot of their names until someone else mentions them and all of a sudden I am flooded with memories.

On the topic of Volcom - he was incredibly good at the start because I am pretty sure he was a hardcore W2 player. He had a big head start compared to people who started on WA. I remember he seemed absolutely amazing for those first few years but eventually other people's skills started to catch up and all of a sudden he didn't seem so amazing anymore. I'm not putting the guy down - he was a great roper - but the skill gap narrowed significantly after a while. He was a Mexican dude and there was another Mexican guy who went by co0L, I believe. He was a really good roper too.

In the *very* early days of WA, the best overall player was a Brazilian dude named BadCereal. I am talking about the first year, maybe a bit more... at least that's what my memory is telling me.

I haven't watched it. I'm going to wait until there's more to binge. The sequel trilogy left such a horrible impression on me that at this point I say f@#! Star Wars, and I say that as a lifelong superfan. I've heard good things about it but given how Disney has f@#!ed up again and again I don't have any hope for it. The new canon is complete dog shit.

Worms Rumble is asscheeks... I mean it's okay for a mindless deathmatch sort of game but it definitely ain't Worms. Buy a cheap potato of a PC and play W:A!
