Maps Comments / Map #11699, No name by titahemp
September 19, 2014, 05:45 AM
*Could someone actually translate this into titahemps native language please so he can understand it better?*

Your maps shouldn't even be in the "Darts" category.

Edit:

tita, I apologize, I like the graphics of your maps a lot, but their playability is horrible and unprofessional, I really wish you would take advice from us...

Darts is a scheme that relies pretty much solely on the design of the map, the maps design decides whether a game is fair, competitive and skillful, or unfair, full of lucky throws and flaws.

Myself, Hurz & Alien spent the better half of an hour in a private game trying to explain to you what is wrong with your maps and what you can do to make them much better and actually worth playing properly.

We offer you our help, to help you improve your maps, we would even take the time to make final edits on your maps while keeping your design, but your response was basically "I don't care about Darts, I make maps for fun", which you are entitled to...

We've worked VERY HARD for the past 2-3 years to make Darts the great scheme it is today, it really sucks to see such carelessness in map design...

I guess the next step here is to try and convince MonkeyIsland to make up 2 categories of maps in the database for Darts, kinda like how Ropers & Warmers differ in map design.

1 section which will have all the maps suitable for competitive/League Darts. For players who play seriously, are skilled in this scheme and don't like luck.

1 section which will have all the maps suitable for funners. For players who don't play seriously, don't care if they win or lose and happy to play with maps full of rolls/random landings.

Hi, the last few days i've noticed YouTube comments won't ever load for me on this PC, where the comments should show all I get is this:

^^ This image just seems to stay there forever, no matter how long I leave it "loading"...

I don't have a clue what the problem is, i've tried searching YouTubes help FAQ, and I can't seem to find a way to contact them to ask about it, I really don't know where to go for support on this issue lol...

*This rule affects anyone playing Darts in TuS Free League - Tested by the dS community / Confirmed by MonkeyIsland*

For those of you who don't want an explanation why this rule has been implemented, here it is:

Quote from: The Rebound RuleIf your worm rebounds off the target on another area of the map or into the water you add the lesser of the 2 scores.

For example:

If you rebound off the target between 3 and 5, your score is 3.
If you rebound off the target between 1 and 0, your score is 0.

0 = Water/Miss/0

*On any map where you must close the drill before touching the target board, the rebound rule only counts if you close the drill 1st, this can be checked by pressing "S" repetitively within a replay*

Example of a rebound on Darts "Classic":

Example of a rebound on Wings Of Beauty:

Example of a rebound on Cour Darts:

Here is the full post:

Introduction:

Darts has came a long way since M3ntal 1st introduced me to the scheme a few years back, where I instantly realized it's potential and became hooked.

What used to be a scheme that had a lot of luck in it and played mostly just for fun between playing other schemes has became a highly competitive and pretty much luck-free scheme:

  • More and more players are starting to realize how competitive & fun Darts is/can be
  • The most popular TuS Free League scheme
  • Routine Cups
  • Routine Tournaments
  • dSC's (The new dSTC which will surely be a lot more fun, competitive & replace dSC)
  • dST's (We will be starting a new & improved season of dST's soon)
  • Always very successful in Worm Olympics

The idea for the rule was mentioned by myself over a year ago after noticing how well it worked in Darkones Roping Range challenge, but seeing as I stopped playing WA for a while it was forgotten.

Over the past month I raised the issue again, and for the last week or 2 some of the dS community have been testing the rule and now dS fully support it, we've confirmed implementing the rule officially with MonkeyIsland.

So here we are with the official "Rebound Rule" addition:

What is a rebound?

For example on the map "Darts "Classic"" by SiD it's quite common for the worm to hit the edge of 1, 2, 3 or 5 and bounce back into the water, this is called a rebound:

Why do we need a rule for rebounds?

We want Darts to be as luck-free, skillful and competitive as possible right?

Even with very high resolutions, such as the one I use 1920*1200, so you can see more of the map on your screen, it's impossible to avoid a rebound if it's going to happen.

Once you've released the drill, there isn't really anything to do but hope you don't hit the edge and rebound into the water...

And even if you close the drill early to change the course ever so slightly, it's impossible to know for sure 100% if you were going to rebound or not anyway, at the very best you can 50/50 guess, sometimes be right, and sometimes be wrong, this is like playing roulette with "red bet" and "black bet" - This is 50/50 LUCK.

Rebounds were cool when Darts was 1st discovered because it added to the realistic novelty that real-life Darts has when a dart hits a metal wire and bounces out, however this is a VERY rare occurrence in real life Darts all over world, especially more so at a professional level, on WA it happens quite a lot on maps where it is possible, ruining competitive games.

How did we fix this?

Simple, we took the same rule from my map "Rattle it !" and used it in the general rules for Darts:

Quote from: The Rebound RuleIf your worm rebounds off the target on another area of the map or into the water you add the lesser of the 2 scores.

For example:

If you rebound off the target between 3 and 5, your score is 3.
If you rebound off the target between 1 and 0, your score is 0.

0 = Water/Miss/0

We re-worded it slightly to make better sense for overall Darts.

The benefits:

  • Eliminates luck entirely on carefully designed Darts maps.
  • Improves players competitiveness by not having to worry about getting unlucky, makes games look more professional
  • With this rule, we will have even more possibilities in map design, if you like Super Mario Darts World, wait till you see what we can do with this!

The following is the full list of maps saved by using the "Rebound Rule":

Wings of Beauty

Angry Darts Remix
Dragon DartZ
Luigi's Darts

Challenge rules & guidelines:

Any 2 players can team up to get the highest score with 16 worms total(8 worms each).

Any 2 players who team up will play online together, gather their best score & submit it.

You can team up & submit records with various players, e.g., "A"+"B" can submit together / "A"+"C" can submit together / "B"+"C+ can submit together.

You can teleport your worms back to the start and begin again at any point, as long as you throw 16 worms consecutively.

You will not receive extra points if you finish in multiple positions, you will only score the points of your highest position.

You may however receive multiple medals as long as you achieved them with different players.

Reply to this thread and attach the game with your team record.

The team who gets the most points in the end of the challenge will be #1.

This challenge will expire on Sunday 28th September 2014 between 8am & 3pm, and the next challenge will begin.

General rules & guidelines for Darts:

Don't forget to enable Racing Stuff before playing the challenge. Type /rs in game lobby to enable it.

Teleport all worms on the start platform.

Activate low gravity by selecting it from the weapons menu or by pressing the console key (under escape button).

Select rope by selecting it from the weapons menu or by pressing F8.

Use the arrow keys to maneuvre the rope and build momentum, then release the worm and fly with drill towards the darts board by pressing enter.

After each throw, add up your score within the game chat by using the "/me" function, e.g., "/me 20"

The score of a drilled worm still counts.

To the victor, the spoils!

Special rules for the map:

Place worms on START.

Connect rope ONLY to small green dot directly above start.

You can only use the small green dot for momentum, no bouncing off start platform.

Throw worms upwards off the left or right walls to reach target.

You have the choice to use only 1 wall or both walls.

  • You will not receive extra points if you finish in multiple positions, you will only score the points of your highest position.
  • You may however receive multiple medals as long as you achieved them with different players.
  • TuS system does not support this method of scoring, so we must do it manually on forums.
  • dS Team Challenges will last 2 weeks each, running consecutively from Saturday - Saturday.
  • Each new challenge will be posted up in the "dS Team Challenges !" forum.
  • Submissions will be posted via reply in the same thread where the challenge started.

Maps Comments / Map #11691, Darts Onfire by titahemp
September 10, 2014, 06:53 AM
Sorry to have to criticize this tita, but it has to be said:

The target is very poor, having such small gaps for 10/8/7/6/5.

It's hard enough in Darts to be very consistent with bullseye, in this case, the slightest miss would be 1 point, why be punished 9 points for having such good accuracy?

These types of target platforms don't make sense as they aren't very competitive, this is the type of map i'd play maybe 1-2 times and probably never again solely because of the target platform.

I won't be adding this map to the TFL map pack, or using it in any Tournaments or dSC's / dST's.

On the plus side, I like the general design of the map, I think you should just edit this map, delete the target and make a new target platform, and you'll have yourself a real nice map which we can use in TFL / Tournaments / dSC's / dST's :)

Remember we are trying to keep Darts highly competitive and luck-free!

Tech Support / Scheme list inside game
September 06, 2014, 12:04 PM
I wanted Darts to be at the top of my scheme list as it's all I play really, realized it sucks having to scroll down all the time...

So I copied the standard schemes and pasted them somewhere else, then deleted them from the schemes folder.

But when I reopened WA the schemes were back in the list...

Do they automatically regenerate or something? Is there no way to permanently delete them?

If I can't delete them, what ways can I force my choice of schemes to appear at the top of the list?

Cheers.

dS / Magnificent score on Berlin Darts!
September 02, 2014, 09:30 AM
We played another game before this where my 1st words were "this is one of my weakest maps" and MarianRV whooped me :D

Ended up with a spectacular result in the 2nd game though, even with pressure from MarianRV!

Had a really good morning playing Darts for last few hours with MarianRV, cheers mate!

dS / R.I.P Robin Williams...

R.I.P Robin Williams.

Really struggling to come to terms with the news from yesterday that Robin Williams passed away...

What a guy, I enjoyed many many hours of entertainment in such films as Hook, Mrs Doubtfire, Jumanji, Flubber, his stand-up, his voice acting and more !

Genuinely shocked by his passing, he will be remembered for many years...

Unfortunately it won't let me paste the video to stream it within this post so you will have to copy and paste this link to watch it:

Off Topic / Best free Audio/Video converters?
August 07, 2014, 11:33 AM
For some strange reason the Audio/Video converter I usually use "Any Audio Converter" seems to crash no matter what I do, even after updating/reinstalling.

So I was wondering if any of you could suggest other good ones, as it's a pain in the ass trying to find them online with all the stupid adverts etc...

It needs to be able to at least convert YouTube rips to WAV/mp3 & FLAC.

Cheers !

Hall of fame / About dS Tours !
August 03, 2013, 05:44 PM
Welcome to dS Tours v2 !

Ok so, timo, Worm_Gamer and myself played a series of different Darts maps with this random guy called denisss where whoever had the most points at the end would win.

This random guy called denisss turned out to be pretty good after being accused "i think he will quit ;p" at the start of the very 1st game.

Anyway it was really fun so we decided to make a thing of it and call it a dS Tour ! -  dST for short.

This is how you play:

  • Give your Tour its own name ! Be creative, it can be silly, or serious, you decide !
  • You must have at least 3 players, 4 players max so there can be Gold/Silver/Bronze winners.
  • You must use the Darts scheme available here - https://www.tus-wa.com/schemes/scheme-745/
  • You can use any of the Darts maps available here - https://www.tus-wa.com/maps/Darts/
  • The host picks 4 different maps, 4 maps with a bullseye valued at 25 or under, 4 maps with a bullseye valued at 25-150 or 4 maps with a bullseye valued at 150+ You can also pick a map and use a multiplier or a divider for the final score, this way you should be able to mix & match any set of maps.
  • Multipliers: To balance out scoring for maps you can use "x2" "x3" "x5" "x10" "20" "x25" "x50" or "x100" points - Just play as normal, at the end of the round use the multiplier on your final score, adding "x2" "x3" "x5" "x10"  "20" "x25" "x50" or "x100" to the map name.
  • Dividers: To balance out scoring for maps you can use "1/2" "1/3" "1/5" "1/10" "1/20" "1/25" "1/50" or "1/100" points - Just play as normal, at the end of the round use the divider on your final score, adding "1/2" "1/3" "1/5" "1/10"  "1/20" "1/25 "1/50" or "1/100" to the map name.
  • Every player must keep track of their own score during individual rounds but 1 player must be the scorekeeper and keep track of the overall score adding up the final points from each player, each round.
  • In any individual round where 1st place is tied, the sudden death rule must be followed until there is a clear winner for that round.
  • In the unusual event of a tie for overall 1st place on the last game, all tied players must play a different map and 1st/2nd/3rd/etc is decided over a single game with 3 worms per player.
  • In the even more unusual event of a tie during the tiebreaker match, the players must continue with sudden death rules.
  • 1st place wins 30 points, 2nd place wins 20 points, 3rd place wins 10 points, 4th place wins 5 points and for every individual game won, the player receives an extra 5 points.
  • The scorekeeper should then post the results to this thread, please report in the same order as the games were played.
  • Each dS Tour completed and reported will be added to the official dS Tours Ladder Standings, available here - https://www.tus-wa.com/forums/ds-ds-tours/ds-tours-v2-ladder-standings-20897/
  • Weekly limit of dSTs played per player = 3

Here is an example of how to post results:

"The BIG Tour"

Maps used:

Music / Good Vs Evil / Blue Man / Classic / Sun of Sunshine

Scores:

Player A: 125 / 19 / 35 / 21 / 340
Player B: 150* / 25 / 16 / 30 / 400
Player C: 50 / 31* / 43* / 18 / 275
Player D: 0 / 22 / 34 / / 32* / 525*

* - This represents the winner of that round.

1st - Player B with 621 & 1 individual win.
2nd - Player D with 613 & 2 individual wins.
3rd - Player A with 540.
4th - Player C with 417 & 2 individual wins.

Congrats to Player B !

This is also a great replacement for Darts Tournaments that don't have enough players to start, they can play "dS Tours !" instead.
