General discussion / Re: Help finding a laptop!
February 10, 2017, 03:09 PM
Whether it's a laptop or desktop, these days its better to buy refurbished if youre on a budget. Intel processors haven't improved much in a while. Better to get a used i7-3820 (3rd gen - quad core) than a new i3-6100 (6th gen).

Depends how fast you need a laptop and what your budget is. It's the same idea as kijiji.. the rarest/most desirable laptops get listed and disappear fast, while the old ones remain. If you have time to wait you could find a 17" dell precision or hp elitebook with quad core intel i7, 1080p screen and a 2-4gb graphics card and 16 gigs ram for about $500-600. That would be a beast and be future proof for a while. Lots of space for extra hard drives or SSDs inside.

17 inch laptops are the hardest to find and they sell fast. Its also harder to find a laptop with a dedicated gfx card. Most have intel integrated gfx for example hd3000. Good enough for worms but you can get better. Most laptops have crappy 1366x768 screens which I would for sure avoid. Assume 1366 unless stated otherwise. Bauer is bad about listing details though... many of the laptops in that list would have better specs than listed (for example higher reso screen or some might have a dedicated gfx card but not say). Email them and ask for more info.. mohit responds fast.

As for brands.. as long as you get a business grade laptop the quality will be good. Far better than some consumer grade shit from bestbuy that falls apart and overheats. Dell's business line is the Precision and slightly lower grade Latitude. HP makes the Elitebook. Lenovo has the T, W and X series (eg. T530). Any of those would be good if you can find the specs you want. None of the lenovos have a numpad if you care about that. Backlit kbs are not standard on most models so ask if you want one. The elitebook has weird shaped arrow keys so you basically have to use an external kb (or remap to numpad) for worms.

What screen size do you want? How important is portability - will it spend most of its time hooked up to a monitor and external kb/mouse? Want to play any other games?

If youre still in canada you should get a refurbished laptop from bauer systems, which is in the gta. Best prices anywhere and quality stuff. New deals are added all the time. I bought my laptop there and got a steal of a deal. Shipping is about $12. http://www.bauersystems.com/price-list.html

-I sent Deadcode a program I 'wrote' in visual basic which had a hidden freeware component that i downloaded from a website for 'script kiddies'. That free script let you browse a target's hard drive and download things. The visible part that I wrote was a simple form where you click on a gif of a fat kid repeatedly to make him dance. My goal was to steal WA's source code. This was when I had access to various beta builds via the alpha testing group and spoke with DC regularly. DC was too smart to heed my repeated advice to leave the program open (and download winsock dll's), but I am certain he knew (or later discovered) what was up. Good thing I was unsuccessful - probably would have released it and destroyed WA. I never really spoke to DC again after that.
I have no memory of this. I don't remember you sending me any programs, don't remember you asking me repeatedly to keep one open, nor talking about winsock DLLs. I have pretty much always been cautious about such things, though.

Maybe with further details my memory could be jogged. I'd be quite curious to know. Do you remember the approximate date when this happened, and what means you used to send the program to me?

I'm guessing that if you did send me this program, I either ran it under a VM or never got around to running it at all.
A very long time ago on AIM - roughly 2003 or 2004. This was the gif: http://giphy.com/gifs/fat-11pVPEm3W6QS7S. I don't know if you ever opened it, but I definitely sent it. Figured you probably took precautions like that. The script added "|COMPLETE|" to the end of all the files it downloaded. I don't have regular access to my old worms files or I might be able to come up with a more exact date. I don't have the cl2k db anymore.

I found the programs JoE sent me:

Very nice detective work. You must have a great backup regime. Your post inspired me to go digging through my old computers/hard drives looking for the client program (file explorer/downloader) that goes with those programs. Couldn't find it, but I did find a backup of the AL (Armageddon League) forum database, and an old Coca-Cola commercial supposedly starring Deadcode with an enormous red afro.

AL database: http://www40.zippyshare.com/v/fDUbrvv0/file.html
Deadcode video: http://tinypic.com/r/2rf6n9z/9

PS: Insignificant distinction and doesn't make a difference - of course I was hugely in the wrong - but those weren't viruses. It was a plain old remote file sharing program which didn't do anything malicious - it closed when closed by the user, didn't make copies of itself, alter any other files, or set to run automatically, or anything sneaky whatsoever.

Fairly standard shot but the chat made it cool. Playback at 28:00.

And a nice reckless bungee at 34:50 in the second replay.

See this thread, try BenT17's suggestion and then do what StepS says in his post. Also make sure "auto register associations" is checked in advanced settings.

If that fails you could backup your User folder and reinstall WA. Pretty easy/quick. Might be faster than waiting for a response.

Just downloaded MapGen 0.85 to test it out. It makes very nice BnG maps in this style with the maximum number of objects. Way easier than making them manually.

And here I thought girders could only be used to bounce nades off, not as protection. Really close game..

Almog in his mid 30s back then? Has he even turned 30 now? Thought he was about the same age as me..
No idea tbh. Your memory is probably better than mine. I never played that much with Almog.
#298
I'm pretty sure they all just stopped playing. Mojo, Jig and Almog were quite a bit older (mid 30s-ish) and they already only rarely played by the time Dr was formed. Blaze was just starting college at the time and was discovering his incredible gift of getting drunk from only 2-3 beers. With a sweet frugal liver like that, he probably never touched a computer again. Especially since his old mates had already left.

x2x damn what happened to them where did half the people go was a good clan
x2x died when most of the members (mojo, blaze, almog, and jigsaw) quit to create a new clan called Dr. They left because x2x had started to get fat with less talented members. I think it was shortly after me, snoop and masta joined.
