I never thought I would criticize mablak for lack of sportsmanship. Last time I checked this challenge was like 7 minutes before it closed and there were no replays submited by him. (It says he will receive 20 points and it still needs to be approved so I am just assuming he sent it in time.)

Sincerely I don't know, for sure it can be treated as a tactical submit to reveal your record in the last minute so you can't get beaten but for me it's a dishonest move.
Anyway, I was never into TTRR challenges (at least not as active as now) so I don't know how participants treated it in the past.

To fix that, maybe we should have a system that hides replays and records and would only show participants of the challenge. When the challenge expires the winners are revealed. What do you think?
Of course we would have to trust the challenge mods to don't go corrupt and giveaway the numbers.

You have been miscalculating. All the evidence is on this page.

(times are my local time)
Challenge expire time: Yesterday at 10:00 PM
Mablak's record time: Today at 05:33 AM

Mablak submitted his time 7 hours after the expiration date of the challenge.

There's also a button on this page which shows challenge's participants at the time challenge was active: "Records in challenge's time". That also excludes Mablak from the list.

But the main question remains: If a player notices a challenge in the last hour, is it unfair to submit a record for that challenge?

Sincerely I don't know.

I was not sure if he sent it in time that's why I quoted this part, I just assumed he did because he got 20 points. Don't we get only 10 points when the record is submited after the expiration of the challenge? I can remember I once got a pop up warning that.
Anyway sorry @Mablak.

No, it's totally fair. But I think all replays and records should be hidden until the expiration of the challenge. If a player wants to submit a record after expiration, they will get less points or no points at all, just the standing. That's my idea.
The mystery is tempting, no one knows anyone's record, the dedication is greater to make a good time.

Ok, for the sake of experiment, I'll try to do the next challenge with the options to hide replays from downloading

I knew replays could be set to hidden but can records be hidden too?

As I read global rules for challenges, only difference between send replay before or after expire time is additional 4 points. So you can send replay to a years old challenges and have points for first place. By other words, challenges are opened forever. Only without bonus (that 4 points).

I tried, unfortunately only the replay is hidden and the record is visible to everyone. Hidden replay is more suitable for puzzle-like challenges

@kaleu, as Danger135 mentioned, the difference is only 4 points because challenges are not season-based. So members can compete on the ladder.

Lol.. really.. It's getting more ridiculous to me the more I discover how challenge points system works.  :D
I just see no reason now to rush before the challenge expires. The point reduction penalty to send replays after expiration is kind meaningless.
It has been like that for years. I wonder if anybody complained about, I can't be the only one.  :-\

Kaleuman, I do believe challenges are about proving you can do better than other players, regardless of points and other metrics such as expiration times. Rankings and points are for politicians, not for ropers.

I also do believe that, but if there is almost no distinction in the score then what's the incentive to send replays within time? As a league player I do care a bit about farming some points.
I'll try some old challenges soon cause I know now that the effort of those who sent in time is almost in vain. :D

Btw, can I steal the trophy sending a late replay? Like for this challenge, there is a custom trophy, I like it.

As I said, there are no seasons in the challenges. If the points reward was too high, then a new player could never reach the top. (unless top players get inactive)

Btw, can I steal the trophy sending a late replay? Like for this challenge, there is a custom trophy, I like it.

Challenges have 2 kind of trophies:

1. Challenge trophy
2. Map trophy

You can steal a map trophy by holding the best record on that map but you can't steal a challenge trophy if it has expired.

For example in this challenge oldsock has the challenge trophy even though Mablak holds the first place. Mablak doesn't even have the silver or bronze medal for the challenge. (since he didn't take part in the active challenge)
But Mablak holds the gold "map medal".
