Title: [Classic] Elite Cup: How it will work
Post by: Rioter on January 19, 2009, 07:40 PM
Right then.

{{Update is below + On my latest post}}

As explained before, we will be starting the first Classic Cup, which is Elite.  ;D

Now it is important that you please read this first, before signing up. This will a) make my job easier - b) make MonkeyIsland's job easier and c) you are less likely to get your head nagged by me.

I have tried to make this as clear as possible. If you want to give me suggestions, then I am happy to accept them.

-Signups-
To sign up, please post in the registration post 'Yes I want to sign up' etc. There will be a maximum of 64 players.
I will delete spam.

-Group Stages-
To begin with, there will be group stages (just like old TuT). This will involve groups of four players playing each.

These games are bo3 / Best out of three. When reporting you report ' Player X won 2-1 against Player Y' or however, as long as it's clear. What you score is then what goes on the table (So Player X gains 2 points, Player Y gains 1 point).

Only the person who gets the most points will proceed to the next round (knockout stages). Sorry but if there is 64 players, there's too many really. If a lot of people moan then I might reconsider.

-Knockout Stages-

I will write this up at a later stage

-Reporting Your Games-
This is how it will work. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!

Once set up, there will be a forum where you can post your results. (Again like TuT).

When submitting the results, you or your opponent must attach your replay files! This will serve for and other purposes.
If you do NOT attach the replay, I will badger you once. After that I will just not acknowledge your game. Sorry to be harsh, but sometimes it has to be done.

The scores will then be added up and so on, depending what stage you are at.

Apart from that, enjoy   ::)

UPDATE: The scheme being used will be the one on the league system. Any complaints post here

I hoped there was going to be some nice coding trick so no need to mess with forum...
I guess this is the future yet ;P

It would be great that all games in any TuS Cup will count for the single ladder too. Just think about it ;) But in case of best of three only one win vs each oppenent (similar to intermediate reports).
Title: Re: [Classic] Elite Cup: How it will work
Post by: Ray on January 20, 2009, 07:41 PM
Nah, that would not be good and I tell you why:
There are some people (like me for example...) who do not have a lotta time to play. Thats why I cannot compete in the leagues seriously. So if the Cups count separately then these people have chance to win something. I hope you got me cus im tired and even I dont rly follow what I am saying lol.

what happens if the top players of group are tied on points?
Title: Re: [Classic] Elite Cup: How it will work

Then u'd probably count only the score gained in matches played between the players whos scores are tied. It's unlikely to have 3 or more players scored the same amount of points since games are bo3. It can happen tho.

With people who are inactive, unless they have a good reason or tell us in advance, they will be put on a "Greylist" similar to what we had to come up with on TuS. I will set a deadline for all games.

With the player's I am sure we will reach 64.

Post by: Albino on January 22, 2009, 08:58 PM
Yea,set a deadline, imo people should be lost when they didn't play their games until the deadline. And don't give more time them to play these games.

Update: The scheme to be used will be the Elite Scheme under Schemes.

If there are any issues with this scheme, speak now. If you don't and then moan about it, chances are it will be ignored.

Can't get tired of saying this one (just in case you didn't already say it somewhere else):
Instead of having a "no knocking" rule coupled with "accidental" knocks, you can play all the games in #PT. Easier for everybody. ^^

No I haven't mentioned this, and I will recommend/enforce it!

Dario is right, games should be played in #PT, even because you can slide through a worm that way and it can lead to great tactical advantages ;)

What f4st said. The top player goes through. Sorry but 64 is too many for top 2 to work, it would take too long

I guess if players is gonna go through a 4-team group, you have to make it that 2 players go up. Think of what to do in the next part with 32 people.
Title: Re: [Update] Elite Cup: How it will work
Post by: van on January 27, 2009, 04:09 PM
what about
1st round- group of 4-> two go through (32 players)
2nd round- another group of 4-> 1 goes through (8 players)
+3rounds of knock out's to get the winner (4,2,1)

or
1st round- group of 4-> two go through (32 players)
2nd round- another group of 4-> 2 go through (16 players)
+4rounds of knock out's to get the winner (8,4,2,1)

In the name of activity i d recommend to have 1 player going through in the 1st group phase and have knockout rounds after that, easier to catch one player for a game then to catch 3 for the group phase.
Otherwise split this cup in 2 cups then you dont have that problem, but 2 winners then ;P Maybe there could be an ultimate final between the 2 winners then, a bit weird though...

That's very very similar to 16 groups of 4 and 16 ppl in knockout stage  ;)

Post by: f4st on January 27, 2009, 05:25 PM
If u played in old TuT cups u must know that in groups of 4, sometimes 1 player find other 3 to play, but sometimes another player finds only 1 to play (America/Europe/Asia players group for example, hard to find others), so isnt too fair if only 1st goes to da next round...

16 groups of 4, the top 2 proceed to a tournament of 32 people, bo3 knockout. Sounds like a good solution to me. D:

Post by: chakkman on January 27, 2009, 07:03 PM
Yea thats fine :) As f4st stated not fair to have only top 1 player of each group going next round. Might be a long way but you should have known as you planned 64 ppl for this cup.

Post by: Rioter on January 27, 2009, 08:31 PM
I will consider the 32.

Also, another technicality is tables. As the cup part of this site is not ready, and because I cannot post html code in this post, I will probably post tables somewhere else, most likely tuscup.wqdb.org

If you wanna have html codes for tables, Just give em to me. I'll upload it on site.

Anyway,
Can't you use bb tables ?

attach your replay files

Sorry i didnt understand what it is. Maybe its my bad english)))

Basically, every game you play in worms, a 'replay' file is saved in the User\Games. Typically the last game on the list is the most recent. You double click that file, and you get a replay of the game

You then attach the file to the forum post (or upload it) so I can then view/download it.

Well, I will think about that. I could use the attachment uploader, or I could use a specificc uploader, etc. Definately do Not use the league uploader, as it's, oh guess what... for the league games (sorry I let some sarcasm slip in)

Would still be cool to have some dedicated Cup page though. With an option to report games, upload replays, automatically refreshed standings, tables and stuff... If thats not too much work :P Wouldnt work without a default system for all cups though i guess... And we'd still need the "Contact your opponent" threads of course.

Oh man....Its a pity that my scheme isnt in classic mode...i hope not yet)).Maybe the name is not correct))...I want to say that its my desire to see "my version of elite"(i dont think that its elite because i played this even when i didnt know this site and all shemes) as oficial sheme of next cup))))
