Title: How tournaments work
Post by: MonkeyIsland on March 24, 2011, 07:59 AM
It seems like some people have confused the concept of tournaments with the way cups work. I'll try to explain the tournaments.

Like any other tournament you have seen on WN, TUS tournaments works the same. It means that when a time for a tournament is set, people gather at that time in a specific channel, and play their games. You don't have to find your opponent to play your games, because everybody is in channel at the time of the tournament.

Now in most of the tournaments other than TUS, there's a mod in channel which players will pm their name to. The mod gather the names, pair them with a pairing tool program and then announces the pairs in the channel.
on TUS tournaments, each tournament has a page, so when the time of the tournament has come, instead of sending PM to the tourney mod, you simply visit the tournament page and click on "join" button. This has many benefits such as:

After the players has joined, the mod clicks on the pair button and the system pair the players randomly. Again people do not need mod to announce the pairs, because they can visit the tournament page to see who's their opponent. Benefits:

After you play your first game/round, you visit that tournament page and report the game. when you're done reporting, you tell the mod, so that he/she can proceed you to the next round. Benefits:

At this stage the mod's job is to proceed players to the next round or deal with their possible complaints.

mods must watch every replay before proceeding?

or what if you proceed the wrong player.. is there undo?

tus tournaments sound cool ;] random pairings might sometimes be unfair.. but you made it simple to code this way I bet.

It's a great system, good job MI, but I prefer to host and MOD my a2b Tournaments live myself the old fashioned way, makes me feel prouder if you know what I mean?

I'll use this for other Tournaments though :)
