lales mate, if someone is honest, dont try to turn around his mind. Its better someone dont join in that case. We cant need inactive participants at EAC. You know why :-)

Better x less joiners than an inactive Championship.

Sure its sad for every absence. But 2013 is not the last one. We will play EAC even 20 years later, if T17 keeps server  8)

Random00 vs Mablak first round!!!  :D

Yeah, that's very... convenient :P I feel the need to let this out in the open, that schedule of Random looks super, super rigged!! He's facing Mablak in the first round, at the best possible time when Mablak is at his weakest point. There was a 6 percent chance of that happening. Furthermore, Random's drawn with the top-3 of last years final table in the next three rounds. All of them having been quite inactive in the past few months. You usually need many games under your belt before performing at toplevel. What I mean is, they will probably be playing on a more stable, high level later on in the tournament. Crash is a mess right now, everyone can see that. To finish it off, SPW is facing Mablak in the last round, the way I see it as a last chance to help out Seb if needed.

I'm not trying to kill the nice atmosphere and positive energy that's been around in this tournament, but I feel it is better to be open about this. In this way people will post their opinion and discuss it, rather then talking shit behind each others backs. Am I the only one who reacted at the schedule when seeing it for the first time? I could be analyzing it too much. Just seems like there's a dead fish here and it smells really bad. Am I rude and/or disrespectful towards you guys, Random, SPW and Ray, for even thinking in this direction? It's not a lack of trust, it's more about using common sense and logic. Let's say the schedule was not fixed, you must have seen it coming that questions would be raised when seeing the schedule yourself for the first time. I guess telling about how the schedule was drawn could clear things up. Tiger used to post pictures of how he made the pairs, with paper, a hat and the help of his mother ::)

The questions that u should ask yourself is wether u think Random really wants to win a championship by fixing the schedule, or by playing fair and square?

Title: Re: EAC 2013 - Smalltalk
Post by: Random00 on June 26, 2013, 11:32 PM
I was at ventrilo with SPW, when I pressed the button to do the pairings and when I first looked at it I was sure shocked at my first 4 matches.
I find it a bit offensive that you think that I could cheat about it, though. I would never ever do this. If it helps I can post the script that generated the pairings online.
Its the exact same algorithm that I also used in eac 2011 and 2012 and it basically shuffles the player IDs with this function: php.net/shuffle (http://php.net/shuffle).

If a majority of players thinks that this schedule is rigged, I am willing to reschedule everything.

But there's still one thing I don't get. Why should I manipulate the scheduling after putting that much effort in this event?!

So far the first one with this problem I think.
Probably it's just a typo, so be sure to check small/capital letters in the password (it matters!) or simply copy/paste it. If it still doesnt work I can give you some temporary password for your first login, but we should both be online then. PMs work best if you want to solve something as quick as possible :)
Title: Re: EAC 2013 - Smalltalk
Post by: Mablak on June 27, 2013, 12:23 AM
I don't know how much I care myself, but ea needs to settle this right now before games get played. The way they did it in CWT was actually filming the pairings, which is the fairest way to do it. I would probably be in favor of that if other people are.
Title: Re: EAC 2013 - Smalltalk
Post by: Random00 on June 27, 2013, 12:54 AM
Problem with manual drawing is, that our tournament structure is quite different. If you just randomly do pairings, you will most likely get (a lot) more matchdays than 17 (for 18 players).
To always ensure the least possible amount of matchdays I used the algorithm presented here: http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=de&u=http://www-i1.informatik.rwth-aachen.de/~algorithmus/algo36.php&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dhttp://www-i1.informatik.rwth-aachen.de/~algorithmus/algo36.php (I hope Google translate isnt too bad on this one, the page is usually in german).
Every player is basically just a number in this algorithm, and the schedule is always exactly the same, e.g. Player 1 is always facing Player 3 on the first matchday. Since we dont wanna have the same scheduling every year, I simply give every player a random number. This year chuvash is Player 1 and Ray is Player 3, last year Devilage was Player 1 and JohnMcClane was Player 3.
This algorithm isn't 100% random (in fact there are only n! different schedules, but 18! = 640237370572800 is a big enough number I guess), but it's good enough for our purposes.

So, the only thing that could be done manually would be drawing of a number for a player. So if you draw 1 for Almog and 3 for Crazy, this would automatically mean its Almog vs. Crazy on this matchday.
I spent some time on getting a good algorithm for a round robin tourney, and its not tirival to get one with the least amount of matchdays. So, if anyone knows one that you can present on air with live drawing, then shoot. But I don't believe there is one. Plus drawing every game seperately would mean for eac 2013 that you have to draw 306 names, because there are 153 matches....

I will talk to SPW about this asap and more opinions are always welcome. Delaying the start of the tournament by one week won't kill anyone I guess ;)

Post by: Almog on June 27, 2013, 10:54 AM
Again, I don't think anyone here is looking for glory he wouldn't earn. Besides, people had plenty of time preparing (getting back into shape) for this tournament, as it was announced ~2 months ago (?).

I also don't think this round (Random vs Mablak) will determine the end-winner of the tournament. There are plenty of skilled players this year and many surprises are coming up.

Lets start this Sunday. GL and HF everyone.
Title: Re: EAC 2013 - Smalltalk
Post by: Ray on June 27, 2013, 10:56 AM
It's pretty bad that you would think the schedule is fixed Crazy. :( It's a script that randomly generates the pairings, nothing more, nothing less. Adding a feature that would create fixed matchdays or manually fixing pairings would be so much effort it would actually take days. I can't believe that you would even consider that someone like Random, who's been always known of his outstanding sportsmanship and respect towards everyone, would cheat in such a way. Besides, I don't think that between the 18 players that are in this championship, any schedule would be favourable for anyone.

I was trying to work out an algorithm myself too by the way, but it failed for some sort of weird programming reason that I still don't recall having found.
Title: Re: EAC 2013 - Smalltalk
Post by: SPW on June 27, 2013, 03:54 PM
Nothing is rigged with that schedule. Like Random said, I was in ventrilo with him and we both was shocked when check first rounds. But it was 100% not rigged! Random and I would never do such a bad thing. Really never!

And like Almog said, this event was announced about 2 or 3 month before it starts. Its only Mablaks or Crash or anyone else problem if they not in shape when it starts.

I will talk with random about it but Im not on a yes to reschedule it. System generated it and we even did everyone knows about the launching time of the page. So everyone could just check page after 20 gmt to see the final schedule.

Sure I would prefer Mablak vs Random00 at last round. But the system didnt.

Random00 vs Mablak first round!!!  :D
To finish it off, SPW is facing Mablak in the last round, the way I see it as a last chance to help out Seb if needed.

You really believe I would even think about that? Until now, almost 24 hours later, I didnt even realise that I face Mablak at last round!

all matches during vacations will be dealt with seperately by SPW and me.
The most common way is that we will send you and your opponent a PM, where we suggest how to handle it. Usually the games just get postponed by 1 week or 2, so just wait and see, I guess :D

This is the plan of all known and / or possible absences. Before every matchday starts, we give an information about all matches which getting a new deadline cause of absences. Yellow blocks: Not sure, more coming up as soon as they know. Orange: There are some smaller chances to get it done in the deadline. Otherwise they will get some more time, probably just the deadline from the upcoming matchday. Red: Very sure those matches will have deadline from the upcoming matchday.

Such disappointing defeat in the first round. :( After a strong start in the first game and some shaky moves by chuvash, I was just not able to contain him well enough to turn the game in my favor, shame. I really feel like this could have gone either way, although I do believe his skills and tactical knowledge are superior to mine.

Nice games though, and crystal clear consequences: I need to practice. :)

Maybe you can still send it on PM to Random like he suggested and he can add it Almog. The site has been running a bit slow today, and no games have been played yet anyway. You should give him a hug for the extrawork tho (A)

Send your predictions to Random00 with a pm, he will do it manually. Do it as soon as possible. After first match is played the time if off.

Site making problems today so you get another chance ;)

So did I actually, but I changed it in the last minute before the deadline to 3-2 for me. I thought "Crazy, you're telling yourself you've lost already before the games started". Have some belief in yourself and change the vote :D Idiot me

I was really slow mentally, I needed like twice the time for the same thinking than usually. By the time I realized that you could skunk, I was only hoping that you'd fail, as there were some possibilities for that. If I selected the Girder then, I would have failed to even block, which would have been even worse.

Well anyway, really enjoyed the games!

Do your predicts in the first half of week. You can change your votes before the deadline. Site sometimes making problems so just go on the save way.

If you miss it, send a pm to Random00 asap. Your pm must send to Random00 before first game of that matchday ended.

Hey Mablak, sorry I couldn't really play this morning, it's my mom's birthday and I also had rehearsal like right after our games, so in the last two games I wasn't even really looking, I was packing up my stuff. :-X

Didn't want to postpone it once more, felt like it wouldn't have been fair. Well, yea... sorry, I was hoping for some better games man. :(

SPW/Random

I have a free round in the matchups of 15th september. I suppose it's not possible to move it to one of the last 2 weeks of august when I'm away on holidays?

It's np if it's not possible, I'll just play both of the matches later then.

Can I request something? For an observer it would be really cool to have the match score hidden in some sort of spoiler tag (click on it = view score), otherwise watching the replays is not as thrilling when you know who comes out ahead beforehand. :)

How about free wins? How do those count? Should they count? Right now, it looks like they do, which doesn't seem very sensible to me, since if someone predicted 3-1 they get less points then someone predicting 3-0 and either way, it doesn't make any sense, because it was a free win. What do you think?
Title: Re: EAC 2013 - Smalltalk

Chuvash-Crazy 75-25% in schedule/pred.game? What a low blow!! Chuvash beats me 3 out of 4 times? OKay... Nothing against you chuvash, but those numbers are taken out of the sky. I feel offended by that prediction.. He has performed very well against good opponents so far, but it seems like people are blinded by those results. Chuvash performs above his own level when facing strong opponents, obviously. I'd say me and chuvash are quite equal skillwise, it's a 50/50 match-up. He has a little advantage because of the knowledge all the intermediate has given him. We both have a winning percent of 59% in TEL (actually mine is 0.03% higher then his), we are 7-5 heads up adv me. My prediction: game goes through a five-set game and it's a coin flip who wins.

Random, you are 15 points behind SPW, Dulek & co, here is your chance to catch up with them. Take a "huge risk" and predict me as winner. There is big value in chosing me instead of chuvash anyways. That's my point about this, it's not my egoism, it's just plain wrong percentage and it gives an incorrect image of the probability. Even worse is Almog vs lales, which says 100% for Almog. Yeaaaaaaa right. My credibility is low tho as I've been the worst predicter this year :P
Title: Re: EAC 2013 - Smalltalk
Post by: SPW on September 07, 2013, 09:36 AM
Sometimes I am a bit confused about your posts, crazy. But well, you wanna hear the truth, here is it. Chuvash is the better player, you only have some few advantages against him. Guess its BnG, tho not your world either, and sudden death. Technics, Tactics and overall skills are pro chuvash. His biggest problem: Doing some faults by rushing the turns, it quiet often looks a bit aggorant. And BnG is his biggest leak, no question. But if you are not enough careful, the cows will kill you sooner or later.

Best chance to win against him: Defense tactic, BnG turns and going into sudden death. Your supersheep is your advantage there.

Alltogether, imo Crazy vs chuvash 2013: 30:70.  :P

Chuvash-Crazy 75-25% in schedule/pred.game?

those percentages are based on the predictions that were made. So, thats simply a 3-1 for chuvash that most players predicted.
But sure, you can prove the predictors wrong by winning more than 1 round ^^

and btw: I didn't predict 3-1  ;D
Title: Re: EAC 2013 - Smalltalk
Post by: Crazy on September 07, 2013, 11:06 AM
I know SPW, it's just that I from time to time talk straight from the shoulder, more often when drunk. Well basically we disagree then, I don't see how his tactics are superior to mine, or that his overallskill is. BnG has been my weakest skill/scheme since I started playing, and in particular in recent years as more and more players have started notching, so I don't think that's any advantage on him. Chuvash has a better and wider understanding of how to make use of weps in the most effecient way imo, but other then that, our match should be wide open. It's 55-45% advantage him, nothing more ;P I know you don't like gambling, but I'll give you 1.85 in odds for Chuvash. It will give you a nice profit in return in the long run if Chuvash really is as big faourite as you say.

Indeed Random, that's why I questioned that Chuvash beats me 3 out of 4 times, like 3-1 for example. I am really motivated to prove them wrong, atleast. It's a start and better then nothing :P
Title: Re: EAC 2013 - Smalltalk

Indeed Random, that's why I questioned that Chuvash beats me 3 out of 4 times, like 3-1 for example. I am really motivated to prove them wrong, atleast. It's a start and better then nothing :P

Then you just catch that 30%, nothing more. If you play 10 series against him, you will lose 7 of it by winning 3.  :P

By the way, BnG isnt only notching. Just check some "freestyle nades" from previous games. They can just turn everything and bring you the victory. And that has nothing to do with notches. Its just the damn skill.  ;)

Your odds getting smaller cause of that leak in BnG. And thats probably the best counter against players like chuvash.

I voted 3:0 btw and I dont change it until the deadline. I dont like to change predicts afterwards. :D

Dont take it personally, Crazy. I dont have anything against you and you are a nice guy. :)

Hadn't seen this until now, thanks a lot Dulek! But you are not to say sorry about anything.. You are the best predicter so far this year (SPW giving you one hell of a competiton though), and you were the best predicter last year. You have over 80% correct picks over two years, it's a sick percentage.. I think you did the right thing predicting a win for chuvash, because he had a bigger chance beating me. But I think for someone trailing a bit behind in the stats, it would be more valuable to have predicted me.

PS: Gonna be exciting to see if we end up with same points yet again this year in the standings
Title: Re: EAC 2013 - Smalltalk
Post by: Ray on September 18, 2013, 12:20 PM
The championship is coming to an end, we are in the finishing rounds - time flies crazy fast!

What are you thoughts about it so far? How do you feel you performed, over or under your expectations?

Personally, I think my position is both fair and misleading. I had very close games against Free or Crash that could have easily gone either way and the standings would show a different look right now. I was truly expecting to do a little better than this, although my level of playing and the level of commitment to the game nowadays are both pretty low. I usually have no time to prepare, unfortunately.

I'm going to face lales, Random00, Chicken23, JohnMcClane and Dulek in my finishing games, tough set of opponents, I think the most optimistic expectation for me is to get 6 or 8 points out of these games. I'll be sure to be a 100% prepared and give a hell of a fight to everyone. Good games so far, thanks for everyone, it's been a real pleasure. :)

Let me just give a big shout-out to our great organizers and sponsors of this amazing event that just ended for me. Thank you very much Random00 and SPW, this was amazing, I'm really sad that the championship is already over.

Dulek, great games at the end buddy, never would have thought I can win from 2-0, but the devil never sleeps... Worthy of a real derby that decided the faith of the 14th place. ;) I am hoping to get even better next year, I won 5 games out of 16, last year I won 5 out of 19 so that's better. This year I can say that 40% of the games I lost could have gone either way, so next year, goal is the mid-table! :) Thank you so much again, amazing few months, thank you everyone for playing.

I've really enjoyed the tourney as well. It would be great if Crazy or something summarizes the results and in a similar review to his predictions before the tourney started!

In my games tonight I've also come back from 0-2 down when it looked like i'd be losing 0-3 to free. Im happy with some of my victories but also felt i let some opponents get away with a win who shouldn't have. 1 last game to go and hope to carry on with my strong end to eac  ;D

This tourney has helped me to reconfirm my own perception of my elite status!

I would also like to thank SPW, Random and all EAC participants for this whole tournament. We make each year great elite festival that lasted almost half a year. I, myself, am not happy with my performance, but I still enjoyed every single game whether it was a win or lose and thanks once again to SPW and Random for organisating this great event. I'm looking forward for next year, cheerio! :D Good luck to all. :)

Thank you all for this nice championship. After all, we didnt have a lot of problems this year. It was running better than last year, thats good! :)

And Crazy, please do a little romance about this. You are our pen-guy.   ;)

Jooo, my final game is done as well  :)

Not sure yet whether this whole thing was a success for me. I guess 8-8 isn't so bad, certainly not with a positive balance. I do hope Chicken will lose his last match though. Feels a bit different to be 8th or 9th. 8th would be better than crazy's prediction haha  :)

Thanks to all the players yeah. I had some really nice games. Particularly against some old schoolers, like Chicken, Crazy and franz, ppl I dont play much with nemore  :-[
Setting dates didnt prove to be too hard. We did a good job on that indeed.

I guess the whole thing helped me get better as the scheme, although as the cup progressed I lost more and more focus. But I guess that goes for everyone. The first matches certainly were the most 'intensive' for me, but I guess thats also cause this was my 1st year (and hopefully not the last  :)).

Thanks eac, thanks SPW & random.
Waiting for the ending ceremony  8)

Very big thanks to SPW and Random, without this tourney I wouldn't have had any motivation to play elite right now, it's kind of a nice way to force all us busy old schoolers to play each other. It's pretty amazingly generous for SPW to sacrifice so much cash for us, so huge thanks there, I just hope this isn't a lot of money for him. And props to Random for getting some real life trophies, very awesome of you.

It was a pretty big time commitment, especially because I'd usually have to warm up before matches each week as well, so  maybe next year we could find a way to reduce the amount of time it takes, like 2 opponents per week. Doing that might also keep people warmer, since I don't think many of us could stay in shape throughout the entire 16-week period. But yeah, thanks for organizing guys.
