Title: Bethesda, tut tut tut!
Post by: TheKaren on December 07, 2018, 12:15 AM
If you don't know who Bethesda are, they are a massively successful video games publisher, they are well known for the Elder Scrolls series and the Fallout series mostly, although they have made a number of other good games too.

They used to be highly respected for providing great games and great service, well not anymore.

Many fans were already disappointed that Fallout 76 was going to focus on Multiplayer taking away that element of being alone in the wilderness interacting with NPCs. To get the best experience out of this game you kind of need to have a bunch of friends to play with, so it's not really a Single Player game anymore, a lot of fans were disappointed about this.

Fallout 76 has had some problems making headlines, such as having great difficulty uninstalling the game on some platforms and the now frustrating globally accepted modern standard for new games being released riddled with bugs and errors, that unfortunately gamers as a collective just blindly accept and let big companies walk all over them.

Other things players are complaining about include:

As if the game itself isn't bad enough that it doesn't live up to expectations you would expect, Bethesda are now guilty of misleading customers with false advertisement and completely scamming them:

This is an obvious attempt at increasing profits by any means necessary, regardless of how it frustrates, angers, hurts, and disappoints the consumers.

As if THAT wasn't bad enough, they went ahead and leaked private/sensitive consumer information (https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2018-12-06-bethesda-has-leaked-fallout-76-customer-names-addresses-contact-details)

@BethesdaSupport  I am receiving other people's support tickets on my @bethesda account. I have numerous people receipts for power armor set that includes their email & home address and the type of card used. This is not good, right? #Fallout76

They are just one of many companies that are ruining gaming in various ways, I personally will no longer support Bethesda, as far as I am concerned they are criminals, they are selfish and don't care about delivering a quality product anymore.

Looking at what is popular nowadays and hearing people's talks, all i can say is this - whole gaming is rolling down the slope. I would play these "games" just to shit on them properly but i have neither time nor good enough computer for that. Gaming is just one of thousands aspects of life, but it shows a rough direction where everything is going... And that direction isnt promising.

Well said, i've noticed this also, it's just a shame so many people are blind to it.

People nowadays demand ever novel stimuli in any form, which is a shame because that promotes mostly low-quality products and services, which numbs the natural taste and appetite for something simple, and more importantly, satisfying. This pertains not only to gaming industry.

It's too bad, fallout is one of my favorite franchises, sad to see it delve to new depths.  Fallout NV was the last good game, I really didn't like fallout 4 as much as the previous versions.

Anyone who has played Bethesda's Fallout 3 forward could see this MMO mess coming.  The fallout games have all released with major bugs, most have been well documented, the engine they use for fallout and skyrim is very buggy.  MMO's are usually significantly more bug laden, so this disastrous release is more or less par for the course for Bethesda.  Their games are quite good so I will still be purchasing going forward, but would like to see Bethesda address some of these common issues that have gone back to the beginning of the engine and are still persistent.

In my opinion, Bethesda should stick purely to single player content.  Looking forward to the next elder scrolls game.

Bethesda are using the very same game engine for all their major games ever since Morrowind. I am sure that The Elder Scrolls 6 will use the same engine too. Bethesda unfortunately prides themselves with buggy games, and consumers accepted it. Only now it went too far.

what made oblivion, fallout3, fallout new vegas and skyrim so good were the NPCs. they were unique, they spent time giving them each their background story and personality. whenever i find a new place in those games, there's always some interesting new NPCs. doing quests for them would often piss off/kill someone else / or an entire faction. u had to think ur actions carefully. and fallout 4... just forget that

I don't think Bethesda reads a WA forum.

Singleplayer was always dead in my book. I'll never figure out how someone could enjoy repetitive AI actions, rather than PvP.

Especially nowadays when 90% of games literally give you hints how and where to jump..

Interesting statement there.

PvE & PvP are both repetitive, there are always patterns in both, because at the end of a day, it's a game, and games are limited because of what they are programmed to do.

Some people enjoy the feeling of travelling alone in the wilderness, encountering friendly NPCs, the feeling of tragedy yet also peace and tranquility.

For me, Fallout 3 was kind of like watching an epic movie with a great story alone in your house or cuddled up with a partner, lights out or dimmed, some nice food and beverage, your mind relaxed, and for a few hours there is this unique feeling like you are in that world yourself, life doesn't exist outside this game, this game IS life, rather than the reality of Earth that actually exists for all of us, poverty, abuse, corruption, greed, manipulation, etc, at least in a game, we can put ourselves in the shoes of another persons dream, we can all be the hero for a while, we can all feel like we have a purpose. Any game with PvP takes away the fantasy of the game for me, when you play with other people the patterns of real life seep into the fantasy world and destroy it.

Fallout 76, and for that part pretty much all PvP games, lack in story, they lack in adventure, they have no purpose other than to compete against other players and compare the size of our d**ks. This is fine for some people, for many people they enjoy nothing more than beating other humans, trash talking, trolling, feeling strong or whatever, but to me that's barbaric, it's primitive, it's straight forward and easy to get good at games like that, but it does not satisfy a curious intelligent mind with a thirst for knowledge and mystery, I want stories, I want humour, I want adventure!

This is why personally, I look for PvE and PvP in different types of games, I do enjoy some PvP games, such as Battlefield 2, PangYa, Worms Armageddon, Rocket League, where no story really exists.

But when you try to combine these, I just don't like it, i'm sure others do though.

No. They're not. If you learn how to beat AI - it's over.
If you beat real opponent, you'll achieve nothing cause they have ability to learn and adapt.
Every game is a challenge.

it does not satisfy a curious intelligent mind with a thirst for knowledge and mystery,
Like being told where and how to jump..? :)

Ppl are so bored of repetitivity they end up doing speedruns of games just to, how you described earlier, compare the size of their dicks ;)

I've got nothing against ppl enjoying good story in PvE. Will do it myself from time to time. But PvP is what it's all about.

PvE & PvP are both repetitive
No. They're not. If you learn how to beat AI - it's over.

So, without playing a game, I could watch a detailed tutorial on how to beat each AI enemy in a game, and thus the game is over?

I don't think you fully understand what I am saying, which is my fault for not elaborating.

PvE & PvP are both repetitive in various ways.

All games use the same controller layout that we are used to(usually), the only difference is game physics, artwork, characters, weapons etc, to a degree.

These days, it's very VERY rare to see a game that is 100% unique, everything is a remix. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJPERZDfyWc)

This is why both PvE & PvP is repetitive, you are essentially doing the same thing over and over and over, in different ways, with different timing.

If you beat real opponent, you'll achieve nothing cause they have ability to learn and adapt.
Every game is a challenge.

In PvP, once you learn the physics inside out, and memorize the weapons, tactics, maps etc inside out, each game is very repetitive.

PvP does have more variety in this sense because you have to anticipate your enemies actions and try to out think them, or simply play better than them.

I disagree with "you'll achieve nothing" because, for example, when I 1st started playing Worms I wanted to become good enough to beat top players, and then one day I was good enough to achieve this and it was a rewarding feeling, so what you achieve is experience, memories, skill, pride etc.

However PvP is still repetitive, look at WA for example, TTRR, Big RR, WxW, BnG, Team17, Hysteria etc, you are doing the same moves, the same shots, the same tactics over and over, just simply at different times depending on what your opponent does.

Schemes like Elite, Intermediate, Team17 etc, are more adaptive than TTRR, Big RR etc, where you simply just have to practise be better than your opponent, because not only do you need skill and experience of weapons and physics, but you have to anticipate your enemies turns and always pay attention to what they may be planning. But even with this, the games are still very repetitive because it's a pixel perfect game where you can repeat shots/tactics etc.

it does not satisfy a curious intelligent mind with a thirst for knowledge and mystery,
Like being told where and how to jump..? :)

Ppl are so bored of repetitivity they end up doing speedruns of games just to, how you described earlier, compare the size of their dicks ;)

While I am sure there are some people out there who will find any excuse to brag over other players, most speedrunners I know of simply wish to achieve the best possible time, and find new ways to exploit the games and achieve better runs.

The glory of beating someone in PvP is that you beat someone in PvP, or trying to be the best, or you just find fun in playing against other people for funny/creative moments, the glory in speedrunning is the constant ambition of improving and setting records and new possibilities to beat the game.

I've got nothing against ppl enjoying good story in PvE. Will do it myself from time to time. But PvP is what it's all about.

I have nothing against people enjoying PvP, I used to be a PvP fanatic myself when I was younger, but for me it's boring now, it doesn't feel like i've accomplished much by beating another person in a game, otherwise I would still be a 1v1 BnG fanatic lol.

Like I said before, I love single player games and great stories, whenever I see a new game to appreciate the artwork, the scenery, the music, the characters, the progress, because with each game those are the things that are unique, i'm a film addict as well always looking for new stories and fantasies to experience :)

Each new PvP game for me it's exactly the same goal and result, learn the mechanics of the game then win or lose until you get bored of it.

For me, PvE is less repetitive than PvP.
