Title: Some beginner's maps problem
Post by: Procode on July 25, 2016, 07:39 PM
Hi bros!
I have been playing worms for sometime, and I decided to make maps (for wmdb Mole Shooper) myself. And here started my problems.
I downloaded picture in resolution 1920x1080, then convert into png with 112 colours. My first problem is that, the holes for worms aren't generate automatically (I must write command "!holes 18" to get holes) - What i need to do to automatically generate holes. The second problem is that, when the mole digs, the map dont get black where he digs, but it is white, when mole explode, leave white hole (white background)
I hope so, that you understand what i have writen, take care

- You can make holes when a map has 96 colors or less
- White soil is left, because you have 112 colors in total, not 113

Also,  a 1920x1080 Mole Shopper map is considered being a big one, because of how many turns it takes to sink the entire map, how the moles behave, etc.

When i get 113 colours, there weren't holes, but mole left black soil, when I get 96 colours i had holes, but mole left white soil.
What is the problem?

Each extra color above 70-80 you get from destroyed soil. Thats why it looks perfect with 64 colors or less, glitchy if 70 to 96 and no soil at all if 97 and more. Make it less than 80 colors, open with WA editor, add holes, save, upload.

And discover TweakPNG software for yourself.

It seems like you misunderstood me. I do not mean all of Mole maps are bad. Sure thing there are good ones but there are too much beginners who making maps without ANY experience, you know.

I've always used WA's full painted screen in the editor for mole shopper games, you can redistribuite the holes easily and randomly that way, also, I wonder if it is even needed to have multiple mole maps with multiple sizes, couldn't people just generate a simple map that way? Am I the only one?(Screenshot below).
I apologize for going a bit offtopic.

And what if I want a big map, with twice as much height?

696 is the default height, 696*2=1392

When making maps, make sure, that the map's width and height are divisible by 8. Don't be afraid of using a calculator, of course.

@TheMadCharles, if I don't quote anyone I'm either replying to whatever message is right above mine, or the first one. In this case it's the former. Kaleu asked why don't everyone go with standart maps, I gave a reason. That's all.

You won't need it, It wouldn't fit for the actual league scheme, you would need a completely new scheme, even could consider adding more worms to it. That's why I hate bigger maps than the default size for mole maps, if I had to play it often  I would never accept to play my opponent with a map bigger than the default size, this confuses the timing you have pre-recorded in your mind, for example, when you reach the roof in the left and need to go all the way to the right by walking or with jump+chute to atack, I would have the average time needed for it pre-recorded in my mind for that exact map size. But if everytime I play a different map size I would feel insecure to attempt something like that. I think you got it, the bigger the map the bigger the time needed.
Remember, I'm considering league patterns, ofcourse in funners matches you can create anything you want and this method of map generate wouldn't fit for you.
