Title: Learning new english words
Post by: Xrayez on April 15, 2014, 12:44 PM
I've recently found an amazing site where you can learn the most frequently used words in english  ;D
http://www.wordcount.org/main.php

There are 86800 words to learn, ae

http://www.wordcount.org/querycount.php - lmao, the most frequently requested words on this site  :D

Btw, the most unused word I could find "in my head" was 'palatable', its rank is 24851 in database :)

uncopyrightable is not on the list, even though it's frequently mentioned as the longest english word that uses a letter no more than once!

There's none, this site is basically just a visualisation of the most used words in the English language ;)

Ae, I recommend this dictionary http://www.macmillandictionary.com/ , every definition of each word is written by using the most commonly used words in english
I like this dictionary because of audio material presented there (pronunciation in both british and american accents, examples of 'boom', 'moan' sounds, so on)

But 86800 is too much ofcourse, one should learn only the most frequent words first (7 500 words) - http://www.macmillandictionary.com/learn/red-words.html
Educated native speaker knows from 20 000 to 30 000 english words  ;)

"Haha." The jokes's on you. English's got at least 170000+ words that are in current use, 47000 that are obsolete, and more (source) (http://"http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/words/how-many-words-are-there-in-the-english-language").

(Somebody needs to put the guy in his place, hope that's alright, MI? :) )

I crossed the line of respect... my bad...

I guess it's ok to not tolerate lazyness and bad posting, I just need to be more subtle about it like I am with  women,  faggots and ni.. blacks.
