I've been growing chili peppers and some of mine are ready to harvest.

What are the next steps? How do i prepare them, should i try them out?
Title: Re: Peppers D
Post by: ANO on September 12, 2012, 09:34 AM
That's cool Chicken, what peppers have you?
There are many ways to consume or to conserve them... Depending also on what peppers they are...
You can prepare some sauce to use during the year, spicy sauces, some oils, you should even dry them, or cut into little pieces and put into the freezer to use whenever you want (they seem really fresh...)...

Title: Re: Peppers D

BUIBUIIII
Nice to hear this Redi!!!
it's too much soon, you should start in jenuary to allow the plants to be outside in springtime etc... but... if yu have the light ;) that's ok...

I bought some seeds here http://www.peperzaden.nl/ and other seeds in some shops... Don't forget to plant Naga Morich and Bhut jolokia they are the strongest ever!!! habanero 350.000, Naga and bhut 1.000.000 ut/sc xD

Here some guides http://www.thechileman.org/
infos...etc http://www.fiery-foods.com/

Use a germ bo at the begin, it's just a transparent plastic box...
I used a normal soil-seed in the first phase... After when tehy were ready for the first transpalntation I used an universal soil with a fertilizer NPK 5-4, 5-7... Here it was not too warm the weather, that's why I built a green house with Pvc pipes and a plastic transparent sheet, you have to engine a little, but it has worked and it's still working perfect :)
ATM you should use some neon lamp, just the neon, they are really cheap and they work... just put not so far from the plants... 15..20 cm... use chains, use everything... look at some building on those sites ;)
Ask me any questions, i'll help yu if I can :)
buibuiiii

also tell me how high they usually grow and how big pots for the final destination they need coz i dont wanna waste space ;p
Title: Re: Peppers D
Post by: ANO on September 12, 2012, 02:12 PM
about height, my plants are now 1 metre +/- ...
When they will be productive they should be 1 metre X 50/80 cm width... +/- depending on a lot of reasons... but considering you will put them inside with that neons.. they should be like this: 80 cm / 100 cm height - 40/70 cm widht...  Some kind of plants are less tall and less large maybe.. like 20 cm width...
Title: Re: Peppers D
Post by: theredi on September 12, 2012, 02:20 PM
hmm not good about width i was thinking about 100x150 cm box and put there 7/8 plants or 10 maybe, but i think i can train them with strings or something ;p, what about pots, 5, 10 or 15 L? how big the roots can be
Title: Re: Peppers D
Post by: ANO on September 12, 2012, 02:28 PM
yu can also wdge the plants.. they have branches...  I think yu can put them into 100x150 box...
About the pot, when they will be adult something like 15/25 L would be fine..

Right now you only need this kind of plot http://www.pepperfriends.com/forum/topic/1823-bonnet-2009/

I planted calabrian peppers, because there were so many seeds inside them, also they are very hot. Two already started to grow! :)

First on the pic is Habanero, good one haha.

Awesome Redi!!! buibuiiiii

ahh, don't worry, with the springtime and summer, they will grow up in a second!!!

They are already quite big to take sun without problems...
maybe be careful around 12-13 when the sun is stronger...
Direct sun let's say around 6-8 hours

And remember you live in Poland, like me in Switzerland should be really good for peppers but you need something like a greenhouse... (umidity+warm...) mine is 15 euros homemade uahuah

this year I am late again, I have only 2 bhut jolokia from last year but I am ofte out of home, I dunno if I can plant peppers this year :(

But I'm going to order this: (the strongest pepper in the world nowdays)

nice Statik, I think the two  on left are the strongest ones... ;)

What's the point in having strongest peppers in the world if you can't even add it entirely into a meal since your ass will suffer like Jews in WWII? I really, really like spicy food and have myself a bag of dried peppers (peppericoni or something, I don't exactly remember, add 2 and your meal is really spicy) but it's no fun in eating a meal with your eyes full of tears and a burning tounge. Yea, sure chiliheads can increase their tolerance to capsaicin but let's eat meals without having painful dump the next morning. ;)

All peppers are different. I remember I put some simple but hot pepper into my soup and had to eat it with tears haha, still was funny. Then I got even more hot pepper (calabrian), but it was very different, tasty and sweet burning :) Dried Habanero has an interesting taste too, and of course you need to put just a little bit into a food, otherwise it will just burn your arse ;D

@Statik

Interesting stuff with different 'taste' of spicyness. Sweet spicyness sounds curious.

Hey Rediiiiiiii!!!! very nice kids!!! don't give them a lot of water the last 10-15 days before the collection ;) they will be hottest if they pain! auhau
GJ!!!

I have only 1 plant this year, a Bhut Jolokia form last year, he survived, he was almost dead, but he made it and he is full of kids!

Are you doing powder?!
Title: Re: Peppers D
Post by: theredi on September 06, 2013, 06:06 PM

Title: Re: Peppers D
Post by: ANO on September 06, 2013, 08:13 PM
I meant, are you doing some powder with the peppers???
Dry the peppers then take a coffe grinder (10 euros - buy and use this only for this stuff auhauh) and do the powder, it's a nice way to preserve peppers.
Another is to dry and put like 10 bhut in a bottle of olive oil.
One more is to cut in little piece without drying and put in the freezer!!!

The red ones are piri piri, right redi? Ive grown those on my balcony this year but not sure if i did something wrong, they are way way shorter, having like 3cm each. Maybe just different kind of piri's. Anyway i made pickles, the best way of preserving peppers imo, they just arent that fiery like the fresh ones and they are so damn tasty.
Title: Re: Peppers D
Post by: ANO on September 06, 2013, 10:13 PM
Pickles, ... well depending how you use your peppers and which type: you cannot use a bhut or a naga or a seven pod like pickles during your apero auhauhauh you need to freeze in little, very little, slices or do the powder or some oil. You want to tell me that you eat super hots like nuts? how is your asshole? does it bleed? uahuah

oh riiight hehe, yeee i dryed a couple of them on the sun so i can do the powder out of them,

Often you can find pickled piri's in shops that are two or three times as long as mine, thats why im wondering. They look almost like your cayenne.

I used this recipe (http://www.davidlebovitz.com/2009/04/pickled-peppers/) just changed it a little. Removed bay leaves and instead coarse salt i used regular one and tad more of it. Also used whole fruits, no stabbing ;o Gonna wait 1 more week and they are ready i think. If the recipe is good, next year i will plant more of those and also some different ones.

You want to tell me that you eat super hots like nuts? how is your asshole? does it bleed? uahuah

Dunno about super hots, until now i ate only the store ones that i dont know anything about their origin, some were hot so obviously i could eat less, some not as hot and i was eating them like 5 pieces rolled in salami slices with some sauce like 1-2 times per day. My ass was fine, altho my crap wasnt.

This year I was super late with the order of seeds and I had already renounced to do it, given that I still have a lot of powder (middle-hot-superf@#!ingHOT)... but, I came back home and my dad had planted before than me this year! xD

Then I took just 8 plants:

- Habanero red
- Bhut Chocolate
- Moruga scorpion
- Cayenne

Then I have finally decided to take also some others soon. HOT summer is coming. Let's burn some asses xD

I'll keep you posted
