How do you save them?
I run a pretty darn old version of PSP and it doesnt seem to have the option 'Run Optimizer' when I try to save my images. So I can't seem to keep the transparency in. The image background just turns out white.
It's driving me nuts cause I can't seem to create transparent medal images :-[
I could use Corel Painter maybe, but meh, if there's a way to do it with basic PSP I'd be damn happy.
Is that by any chance PSP 5?
How many images are there? You can send them to me.
CTRL + Shift + Alt + S gets you any closer?
I thought this topic was about the PlayStation Portable

Yes.

Too many. They are the cup medals for ASC, I need to make new ones every cup :-[
I will have to send you the medals of the first cup though. They got black background now and not transparent, that needs to be fixed. And the cup page is finished and no longer editable by me.

Lol xD for a moment i thought you making your maps in your playstation portable xD
why u trying to do it when u save???
can you just set the alpha of the background 50% somewhere???
I use psp 3, saving the files as PNG has never given me any trouble with that :o
Odd D1. I take it when you save all the layers are merged as well? That's when the shit sets in.
That probably should solve it avi, but I cant f'in find where >:(
png
take a screenshot of your program, maybe i can tell you where to find alpha.
I get 2 options for merging layers, HHC: Merge All (flatten and Merge Visible.
If I do Merge Visible, the transparent parts stay transparent.

@DarkOne
I see, i have that option too, but its not 'active'. Maybe the transparent bit needs to be on a seperate layer?
uhhh... seems like that background already is transparent, HHC...
thats what those checkers mean, no??
if not, i would deff. try making that in layers... maybe that will help...
edit: i think its just a matter of how your saving it now, HHC... what file type are you saving? dont make it a .GIF... do as ano said, save it as a .png file and im sure it will be transparent as you want.
Yeah, use PNG.
In GIF, pixels can be either fully transparent or fully opaque. In PNG, there are 256 levels of transparency. Here's a comparison I found:

As others said, if you said it as a jpeg it will merge/flatten with a white bg.
Needs to be saved as a png, or if size isn't an issue - save it as an AI.
Any particular reason for working in psp5 over cs6 or illustrator?
If that option is not open, then you have no layers to merge, HHC.
The checkers are what displays transparency, avirex. You can tell easily, because when you zoom in or out, the checkers stay exactly the same, while the non-transparent bits look bigger/smaller.
Hmm guess I could try making a seperate layer for the transparent background, rather than do creating a new image with background set to transparent.
Been saving it as .png the whole time :(
It's only after I save it that it goes white avi.
HHC,
I'm not familiar with psp5 but can you ad an original background layer that is of transparency, and then saving it as a PDF without flattening/merging the image?
Usually PDFs hold transparency as well.
PDF's? lol.
Like I said, not familiar with psp, but when working with illustrator you have the option to save files as a PDF rather than a raster or full vector, and maintain transparency [without losing functionality].
Dunno if that's of any help to you... guess not

If you have no layers to merge, then why would you bother making a new transparent layer, just so you can merge them? :o The result is the same: one layer.
How many colours do you use when you save it? Because if you lower the amount of colours in the palette, that can destroy the transparent layer.
It seems very strange to me that an older version of psp can do this, while a newer version can't, so there must be something else going on here.
Attach your .psp file here.
Here's one Van:
@shady: just used to PSP5. It's the only program I have other than this supernew corel painter which has all these weird brushes and shit. I just get confuzzled when I use it.
Unhelpful comment but... didn't know you could still get Paint Shop Pro :x You got a copy of Coral draw too? ;)

This is what my psp spits out if I save as .PNG
seems very transparent to me.

Send me this miracle machine :(
goddarnit.
Hehe.
MI should allow search engines to index these forums and one day someone could search for "how to save transparent image with psp 5", find this topic and join this cheerful community ;).
Why don't you just use Illustrator and Photoshop? They are like waaay better software.
I tend not to use pirated software, and fully new that are c*ckexpensive. So I'm keeping to my old copies that I didn't download, but that *cough* fell off a truck *cough*. :-[
And besides, PSP has always done its job for me. Very easy to use. All the new proggies have tons more functions and tons more ways to get lost just doing basic tasks :)
Subscription model now ;)
