Title: What's the most effective way to clean up your PC for good.
Post by: Free on January 14, 2013, 01:51 PM
So I have this age old laptop that runs on Vista. I can't install XP on it since cd-rom drive doesn't work.

What should I do to keep clean this and keep it as best performance, I only want to use this for worming purposes.

Programs, tips are all welcome.

And also what's the lightest firewall you know of?

Cheerios.

I have also an old laptop which had WVista and it ran so slow.

I'd suggest installing Windows 7 through a bootable USB. It won't let you downgrade to Win XP since there aren't probably drivers for XP.

Also, let me know what's the RAM memory. I'm guessing you got about 1GB RAM.

Win7 works much better than Vista, especially if you got only 1GB ram.

For cleaning purposes I'd suggest "JetClean". Works better than CCleaner.

I got 4gm ram.

I'm just downloading Win7. I'll let you know if I'm able to install it.

If someone has good torrent for Win7 that's pre-actived and is under 4gb, pm me.

If you have never used USB for installing Windows, heres a good guide on how to format and make it bootable http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-install-windows-7vista-from-usb-drive-detailed-100-working-guide/

Install win7, uninstall all the useless shit and run a registry cleaner (ccleaner or jetclean) then defrag your hard drive.

a good free antivirus is Avira or another one could be AVG. same light and efficient thing. i actually use AVG + the windows7 built-in firewall. if you get annoyed by commercial pop ups go for AVG.

Free you can try Deep Freeze too. On every restart it resets your computer to the state you froze it. You can freeze your windows drive and set worms on D:\ and set that to be non-freeze so that your worm changes can take effect.
