Title: Scheme #3386, Crate War submitted by Crespo
Post by: Ashtar on August 27, 2020, 11:59 AM
Good work, Crespo. I have always been fond of this scheme. It creates interesting situations and helps players to improve their skills with all weapons, including those we rarely use. Although I think I prefer the original Only Crates scheme, your version still gives the good feeling and will hopefully help making the scheme more popular. I have hosted Only Crates many times. A frequent feedback I have received is that we need to be able to move around more easily, such as by adding ropes. Your scheme is more friendly toward players who are either somewhat inexperienced or merely impatient.

When I host the good old scheme Bows and Clusters (BnC), only the most patient souls stay. It is like Only Crates but even without Teleport. We start with only Longbow, Cluster Bomb and usually a few utilities such as Parachute. It was the scheme that enchanted me when I first entered WormNet back in 2003. I still host it with success sometimes, but it seems to be far too slow for modern wormkind.

I decided to deactivate the Donor Cards.
It might be rather unfair if you decide to save some super weapon for later rounds and it gets stolen due to a Donor Card.
I didn't see a big hit on a Donor Card yet while playing the scheme, but it might happen.

when trying to load this scheme via hosting buddy in 3.8 i get the following error:

Error with tus-wa.com request: Invalid scheme file

when trying to load this scheme via normal hosting in 3.8 i get the following error:

ERROR: Invalid Scheme Data Values

sounds cool though

This scheme from the Intermediate scheme precursor needs more recognition. I may even make a px version for those who would like to play with unique tactical px tools, I like the idea a lot.

In my opinion Only Crates is very different from Intermediate, it has more to do with Team17 than intermediate, but is still different because it works with crate shower, which I loved about WWP,  and Crespo used to play that game too.

So this is an Only Crates variation, maybe a variant, I didn't test it, but I know Only Crates and I think it was more cool than T17, due to the Crate Shower from WWP, that is different from the RubberWorm one. Although Only Crates is not very well balanced in my opinion, and way too random, somehow like Kaos is maybe.

That's why I like variations that cope with the original scheme issues. I have my own variation/variant of only crates that was my first ever scheme, called Moles n' Crates. I plan to recreate this scheme when Crate Shower become available in WA. I simply don't like playing only crates using RubberWorm crate shower, it is different and that annoys me. So I refuse to publish my first scheme using RW crate shower, because will not be the way I liked to play.

I was referring to Crespo (him being the Intermediate scheme precursor in 2002-2003), not that this scheme is similar to Intermediate ;)

But intermediate was created by Team17. Crespo made a competitive variation from it, then. For me it is like saying you created Kaos when you actually made a competitive variation from it, which is nice too, but it is not the same thing.

Crespo is not precursor of Intermediate scheme, he is the successor of the scheme.

Whatever you call it, just wanted to say that he contributed a lot to it in the early years.

Yes, he contributed a lot to Worms community and a lot to science too with his studies about spiders.
