Title: Win 7 or Win 10?
Post by: Sensei on October 11, 2016, 08:07 AM
Proud owner of pirated Win 7 here.
Today I'm changing PC and want to have a fresh start.

Should I stick to 7 or install original 10? Need few advices of users who used both! As i remember, Win10 had some bugs when it comes to WA, right?

The only Win10-related problem I can remember is this:
Quote from: http://worms2d.info/Getting_W:A_to_work_on_Windows_8 (and above)Windows 8 no longer supports screen resolutions with colour depths other than "true colour" (24-bit depth or 16,777,216 colours). 8-bit and 16-bit screen resolutions are emulated in software, and the DirectDraw used in Windows 8 results in unusual behaviour or poor performance in certain older games, including Worms Armageddon.
, with a number of solutions available. And those are only actual for PX (W:A 3.6.31.0) users; W:A 3.7.2.1 should work fine.

I use 7 at home and 10 at work. There is no true advantage of 10 compared to 7, however i dont play newest games, but i guess drivers of new vgas are compatible with win 7. And it's easier to connect to smart tv with 10 i guess.. what kills me are the forced f@#!ing auto updates of 10 and you cant really turn them off as i know. Because of this i wont update to 10 as long as 7 wont be outdated :D

I use Windows 10, and it works perfectly fine with WA 3.6.31.0 and 3.7.2.1.

Forced Windows update sucks for a lot of people, but I haven't had a problem with it, yet.

If you care about multiple desktops, then Windows 10 is for you.

They say Windows 10 is more secured from viruses, malware, but not from government agency.
I believe there was an update for both Windows 7 and 8.1 that enabled ease of access for third parties.
Although, you should be fine if you don't anything worse than pirating on both systems (If that is the intent of choosing an OS).
We're all in the system, whether we like it or not.

You don't have to use a Microsoft account with Windows 10.

In my experience, Windows 10 is fine, and so is 7.

The 8/16 bit color problem (poor performance of directdraw) has actually become less noticeable with the latest updates of win10. The game should now perform at 60fps at most screen resolutions. I have also made a DLL that boosts directdraw even more, up to 300fps with 1080p here. And that's without wndmode.
But you should use Direct3D9. Its performance is identical to that of the earlier systems (because it does not use directdraw).
Automatic updates can be turned off. I have been using Windows 10 with manual updates for almost a year. You can either: 1) disable them properly if you have the Professional edition of Windows 10 - this also gives you all the options you had in Windows 7 for controlling how you get and install the updates; 2) disable the Windows Update service; or 3) set your internet connection to "Metered" to prevent the search and downloading of updates. It's not a problem at all.

Windows 7 lets you turn off more shit, Windows 10 if you don't give a f@#! about anything and just want an up to date Windows that won't get outdated as quickly as Win7.

If you decide between Free Windows 7 and paid Windows 10, then I'd def. go with free Win7. :P

I have moved all PC's over to Win10 now and haven't ran in to any issues apart from updates deciding to install at hugely inconvenient moments.

Steps, where can I find this DLL?
Since it seems like no one could come with a fix to my Direct3D9 problem I have to stick with directdraw and it's framerate annoys me

I believe it's still here:

Just drop it into the game's directory.

Tried this. It gives me feeling like rope has no delay, smth similar as roping without v-sync. But similar problem too - screen laggs and freezes.

EDIT: tried it on win 10, not 8*

will your new setup support dx12? then w10
will you use other rendering options like vulkan/mantle? stick with w7.

its your choice
