Title: WMDB: Map Review
Post by: rUNaW4y on February 14, 2023, 08:50 AM
Some fresh bread for your teeth.

User: Baldoro
Map: https://www.wmdb.org/44467

Although I have some other stuff to deal with, I review this map 2 times per day. The guy disagrees about "not-so-good-graphcis" and "unimaginative" tags.

That is why I come to you with a democratic approach.
Please post your option as per below:

- Elaborate: 1
- Good Graphics: 2
- Original: 3
- Themed: 4
- Sprites: 5

More than one option is allowed.

Bests,

The map is themed (street art). The map might not have the best graphics, but I think it's beautiful and I would enjoy playing on it. The map has some pictures that can be interpreted in several ways, it's full of imagination. It is not clumsy, since the gameplay seems very good, with good hides and plop areas. It was probably tested.

It's not something new that I'm posting saying I am against the WMDB bullying (troll) tags. There are art styles that have poor quality on purpose, such as Lo-fi in music (also black metal). There are visual arts that have beauty on their low quality stuff. So, I don't think this map really should receive any bad tags. And even the maps that are made in 5 seconds with memes, could be placed in a separate place, but not with bad tags.

There are maps on WMDB that promote fascism. These maps are not deleted, but some regular maps are removed from the website for unknown reasons.

I see WMDB as a teacher saying that their students suck, that they are bad. Go home and make some decent shit next time, student. This work smells like shit. This is how I see WMDB. A bullying system that makes people stop playing or at least making maps, many players delete their maps. Some were lost forever

Thank you for your high level overview @FoxHound.

According to your description and considering I have posted a survey, I assume your final evaluation would be Elaborate, Good Graphics and Original or did I misunderstand?

I would just review as Themed, probably.

Personally I'd rate the map as follows:

Difficulty - 2/5 (To traverse the entire map is 1/5, however gave 2/5 since it does have decent hides).

An example of higher difficulty shopper map:

Graphics - 2/5 (The bricks look blurry and poor quality, as well as the actual "artwork" being poor quality due to having too many colours and being compressed).

An example of great graphics in a map:

Creativity - 2/5 (A common shopper map which looks like others that came before it, nothing original or unique here, gave 2/5 due to effort put into hides).

An example of creativity in a map:

Fun Factor - 2/5 (As far as shoppers go, it's an acceptable entry level map, nothing special, no challenge for experienced players.)

Good explanation Komo, but it would be useful for my convenience if you could rely on the provided evaluation scale (the one used on wmdb, as you may know).
Peace.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, that evaluation scale is terrible.

There is a reason a lot of people don't like WMDB.

You are right but this is still the way it works ther so I need to refer to that scale.

It's a bit off topic here. But I was wondering: Do you also delete some maps?
For example this map is a direct blury copy of another map made by FFie https://www.wmdb.org/44503
I would delete this when I see it.

Also duplicated shitty maps that flood wmdb at the moment.

Hey Billy, no I do not have rights to delete maps.

Delete some maps?

I know that WMDB delete maps for unknown reasons or stupid reasons. This (https://www.tus-wa.com/maps/map-18833/) map is one example. They simply deleted from the website without any warning or message to the author. They deleted this map (https://www.wmdb.org/37669) of mine saying it is black and white and WMDB only accepts colour maps. I already seen some black and white maps in WMDB, but they are more recent uploads. I remember that Danelius uploaded a map written "WMDB REVIEWERS ARE MUPPETS". This map was deleted and after some time he deleted all his maps from the website. Like many people. sbs knows a lot of map makers that complained about the reviews, and that's why he refused to be a reviewer: he doesn't like the review system.

Maybe it's because the first map is an exact copy of copyright art (Or maybe WMDB reviewers just assumed it is)?
I know wmdb contains a lot of copyrighted content but an unaltered copy is easier to find online and suffer legislative penalties for copying copyrighted content, isn't it?
