I've been jumping onto Wormnet from time to time these past few weeks and I've barely seen ANYONE online. Last night there were 17 people in AG *including* bots and snoopers. I haven't seen many old school names on in a really long time. Does anyone actually still play W:A anymore?

As longest as one panders to old school players and players with high TUS ranking, won't be able to find any activities on Worms Armageddon. But if one is to ignore this, WA is blooming, and no, not just for Russians and mole players. Some of my ZaR games can manage to accumulate up to 6 participants. This sort of activity can last from 17.00 to 00.00 my time. Game is pretty baren around morning and noon for me. Again, if you are looking for old famous people, you won't find much of them, WA have moved on without them. So it is better for you to make new contacts, instead of blaming the lack of activity.

W:A is far from "blooming." At any given time there's hardly anyone online, and most of the people who are on are noobs. Not all, but most. I don't give a crap about TUS rankings but I do like playing with players who I've known for years instead of randoms.

It is rly hard to play with old players nowadays ae, look.. iam 36 family, wife, kid, work..all this made almost old school players leave worms, not cos got bored, but cos no time, if i were bilionary, with no wife and kid id still be playing for sure, ofc if all the others players were around too.
Whats happening now, is the same of when u r rly old, like 95 years, and know theres no much time anymore, same with WA, even if some peoples keep playing forever, kile Kradie playing ZaR the golden era will be unique ae.

Sporadically I play online, I tried connecting with ZaR but whenever I messaged them they didn't respond or were playing, the exception was Kradie who I managed to play with a couple of times and he's fun to play with, unfortunaly the community is way smaller for organized play and just playing random with strangers was never that fun for me. After like 2 weeks I stopped trying. Last I played was 22.07.2019 according to Steam.

If you only TURN on WA once a week just to play one of those schemes you mentioned, then it doesn't, you aren't really active. But if you are saying that you can't find any Big RR or Intermediate, then you are gravely mistaken. There's tons of them everyday.
There are married people that have families that plays WA. It's all about moderation and common sense.
Yes I will continue to play ZaR, and show that parachute isn't always essential Already there are people who host big rr with no parachute. The influence of ZaR is strong, resistance is futile.
Most people online doesn't care about ranked games. It is mostly focused on the social interaction online, and the fun people have and share together.

Me and some other guys regularly play, it's a pretty active group.
We've played 6 tournaments by now. I'm not saying it's easy, since some guys have parental/husband duties. But we've managed it ok so far.
We are committed to play untill we die, so I don't worry for the lack of activity.

It's not that I am stuck in a nostalgia bubble - I've seen every incarnation of W:A from the very beginning until now. I know that the W:A 'golden age' is long gone. It'd just be nice to see some familiar faces is all I'm saying. Hell, most of the people who post to this forum? Haven't seen them on WormNET in ages.
I can totally enjoy meeting and playing with new players but only if they speak English proficiently (many can't) and aren't random aliasers who change their names constantly. It seems like newer players are far less likely to chat and generally have fun and instead just focus on the game and nothing more. W:A for me has always been more about the 'social' aspect of playing rather than the matches themselves.
I'm older too (almost 39), and I work a lot, but I don't have kids or a wife so I guess I have more free time than some people.
In short, I don't have an elitist mindset regarding W:A but I would definitely rather play with people who I already know for a few good reasons. (Not taking a risk of them being noobs, being able to catch up on life, laughing about old shit / reminiscing, etc.) When I see WormNET have such a pathetic amount of activity - to the point of being virtually dead - it makes me think of my own life and mortality and how they are kinda parallel in certain ways. Worms has, for better or for worse, been a huge part of my life for 20+ years now and it's honestly depressing to see W:A in its current state.

To some degree I think I can understand what skunk3's saying. It can be quite boring to play against a player that doesn't have anything meaningful to say. Instead it can just be the usual exchange of words and expression e.g: xD, n1, bl, =D etc. However, this can establish a form of recognition between the two and bond of acknowledgement, that that player isn't that bad at all. But of course we have those that still possesses bad communication skill but also spouts nonsense and insults (Although this can be due to lack of language skills which isn't always necessary their fault?). Then again it depends on age, mental stability, how the intellect is raised, culture, religion and so fort. But I don't believe it is our job to assess every player that we meet under a microscope. Not everyone have a psychology degree and no one is asking anyone to attain a better aspect of the grey area. However, I believe it is best to use common sense.
In other words, if a person just spam, insult and quits over and over, just avoid that person until he/she/it/thing becomes more suitable for you and your environment. If not, just ban that motheryucker. Which Is something I do. Although I lay at wake at night, thinking ''What if I made a new super psychotic villain just because I banned them from my games?!''. Because they usually joins my game and insults me while getting repeatedly booted. But sometimes I just let them stay until everyone is ready and then boot that intellect. Hate leads to the darkside, and these nabs do hate some Kradie for sure. ;D

I would like to come back to WA, problem is... I don't feel the same anymore as I used to previously... I like to take 1-2 warmup Big RR maps before I hop onto WormNET only to collectively wait an hour to play only 3-5 games and then feel mentally exhausted, maybe the actual turn-based strategy is no longer my cup of tea
also, I'm waiting for 3.8/4.0 but that's beside the point

I moved into a house with my ex in 2017, I woke up one day and she was gone, left me in like 3-4k debt cuz I had to pay double bills for everything myself...
Eventually a friend moved in about 5-6 months later, but then he moved out in 2018, there is no way I could afford the house myself, I ended up depressed as f@#! and felt suicidal, quit my job which I had for over 10 years, if it wasn't for coming across my cat I don't know if i'd still be here, he's really cheered me up and made me look at life in a new way since then.
So I went homeless for a while, i'm temporary staying at my parents right now looking for a good job, so all my stuff from my old house is in storage, my desk, monitor, keyboard, furniture, old consoles etc.
So yeah, i've been talking about needing a new house for a while, and that's why I haven't been playing because I can't play for shit on a laptop lol.

Actually alcohol is potentially one of the most harmful drugs there is but I won't get into that.
As far as anyone wanting to play W:A, you could find an ISO file or something or you could just simply buy W:A on Steam. It goes on sale all of the time and it's super cheap. Even at full price ($15) we already know that it's worth the money spent.
Most newer games are boring AF, so let's all get back on W:A and have fun.

We have special sponsors that give out 100k for finals and we stream on a chinese streaming platform, no, you can't access it outside from China. We all live in China btw, I moved there after I joined an elite squad. Mablak invited me and we live in a house together, it's awesome. :D I wish I could tell you more but I am under NDA and only the elite of W:A is playing.

Obviously WA won't ever reach the activity standard of CS GO, Dota 2, Fortnite, and, so on.
Most of the people I play with are people who enjoys the scheme I play such as Roper Z, Big RR Z, TTRR, and sometime Hysteria, Normal, Aerial, Team17, and Elite. I see you there occasionally, and it seemed like you had a reasonable amount of fun. You should stick your head in more often, people just love zarring around. Oh wait, I forgot, I am not Mablak, Anubis, KRD, Ropa, Fudo, gand, Peja, IEW, ArcaDe, Rambo, Avirex, Komodo, m0nk, sm0k, knightz, papa, Camper, NAiL, HHC, Senator, Freeman, CraZy, and so on..... Sounds like you see no purpose in anything that's currently available to you? Very common when you grow older. When you are young everything is new and exciting, new games, new GF, new jobs etc. But you get used to everything and some day you will start seeing pattern in everything. Conversations, games, partners and work. Everything feels the same and as such everything loses purpose. It's different from depression or sadness since you are not unhappy with yourself or something in particular. It's a relatively new and luxurious problem. Back in the days only very few rich people had the possibility to be over-saturated with what life has to offer. But the modern western world is over-saturated with entertainment and lives so fast and has so little "serious" problems. The farmer from 100 years ago had a simple purpose, make enough food so he and his family don't starve in winter. We do worry about losing our jobs, but not because we think we will starve to death, it's more like status quo we want to maintain. If you earn this amount of money you want at least the same forever so nothing changes. And this is the crux of it all, humans prefer no changes, but no changes mean boredom and in the end loss of purpose. Nothing matters really if you see no meaning in what you do.

i wish i had time to play, but whenever i get free time away from family and kids i want to work towards starting my own business! I love SEO which is getting companies to the top of google results.
sometimes i wish some millionnaire would come along and do a cash tournament for wormers or maybe a PR agency so the retro gaming of worms got some interest or back in spotlight and encouraged people to play again or get a load of new players.

It seems to me that the only time of day that has anything approaching decent activity is morning to early afternoon my time, which is roughly early afternoon to evening for much of Europe. I just hopped on WormNET to see if someone wanted to play some games and there was only one other person online, not including snoopers. It's sad. Most of the times that I want to / can play are times where it's mostly just Russians still awake. :/
I've been playing a decent amount of WMD lately not because I think it is superior but because I can actually find games lol

Conversations, games, partners and work. Everything feels the same and as such everything loses purpose. It's different from depression or sadness since you are not unhappy with yourself or something in particular. It's a relatively new and luxurious problem. Back in the days only very few rich people had the possibility to be over-saturated with what life has to offer. But the modern western world is over-saturated with entertainment and lives so fast and has so little "serious" problems. The farmer from 100 years ago had a simple purpose, make enough food so he and his family don't starve in winter. We do worry about losing our jobs, but not because we think we will starve to death, it's more like status quo we want to maintain. If you earn this amount of money you want at least the same forever so nothing changes. And this is the crux of it all, humans prefer no changes, but no changes mean boredom and in the end loss of purpose. Nothing matters really if you see no meaning in what you do.

Last 15 years i was mostly outdoors hanging out with many people but now suddenly there are no people to hang out with. It`s like something sucked joy out of them and turned them into annoying, complaining suckers. So i prefer to be alone now but it is so boooring after longer period of time.

the thing which gets me is that there is potential for the game to have some form of activity, and also retro games are becoming more and more popular.
I got my son the Nintendo switch for xmas can tell theres alot of demand for retro gaming on that console.
It's like a big marketing campaign could bring WA back to life with old generation that remembers the game, but how to pull off such a feat?

I've been jumping onto Wormnet from time to time these past few weeks and I've barely seen ANYONE online. Last night there were 17 people in AG *including* bots and snoopers. I haven't seen many old school names on in a really long time. Does anyone actually still play W:A anymore?
