Title: Great Snooper | 3rd chapter
Post by: Tomi on August 31, 2014, 10:32 AM
Welcome to the Great Snooper topic!

You are at the right place if you need information about Great Snooper!
You can also report errors here and don't be shy to share your suggestions if you have any!

Important links
There are both installer and portable version of the snooper!
Using the second link you can read about all the features of Great Snooper!
At GitHub you can see the source code of the application.

The 3rd chapter

What was changed in the new version? Well actually everything!
The code of the snooper got fully reviewed and reorganized. It also got a new design and some new features too!

Let's see the new things point by point:

Design

The design of the snooper is smoother than ever! It was made by using a common framework, the Metro.

Screenshot of the main window (http://worms2d.info/images/3/33/GreatSnooperScreenshot.png)

Ranks

Well, you could see at the previous screenshots that ranks are here! You can choose rank and the snooper
will display the rank of other players too. Furthermore for users who have logged in with TUS secure login feature their TUS rank will be displayed.

Instant coloring

If you visited the Screenshot of the main window (http://worms2d.info/images/3/33/GreatSnooperScreenshot.png) then you could see that the messages of the users have different colors.
With this feature you can see the messages of the user(s) you are chatting with much easier!
All you need to do is hover your mouse over a message of a player, press right click and choose a color! ;)

Other changes

Some thoughts

If you have downloaded once the first version of this snooper and it wasn't
working on your computer then you can try it again, this will work! ;)
There were a lot of changes made since that version. I think it really deserves a try!

Unfortunately there are some little bugs, that I will try to fix fast.

Skorpuz: was that in this version? (btw I removed double click to close the channel, coz double click can be done coz of a mistake too and it's annoying :D you can use middle mouse button too)

Sophira: hmm maybe I will disable that function and add a checkbox in the settings where users can enable it manually. (Done)

A few things:

- If you have autologon on, you have to start two GS to be able to change nick/account. How about a "log out" option that brings you back to login window?

- After updating you have to start GS again manually. Not a big deal, though.

- Request from Wheat Snooper topic:
Is it possible to make a feature that notifies you whenever a game with a specific name or containing certain words is created?
For example If I add "shopper" to the list and someones creates a game called "shopper rules" TWS notifies me through a sound and a tray message if it's minimized.

- Fix my tuned version ;D

Hello there. I've been testing your software for awhile now and I really like its interface and simplicity. But just a few things that it lacks or should be optional: a hiding button - I wanna see it in the tray bar, whether maximized or minimized (the whole time as it's running, though this should be optional). The X button should NOT disconnect it. Independent windows for every chat (most likely, this should be optional, others might not agree). A few bugs: when organizing users connected on channels by Countries, Ranks, Nicks or Clans, it won't remain that way, the list simply resets on every session, and it's an annoying task to do everytime. Same with the Show login screen at startup - this option gets unmarked on every session, I wanna see the login screen everytime. And last but not less important, the ads... no offense but, what's up with that? What are the ads for? It really sucks to need to close it on every login session. Still I think you've done a great job as I'm comfortable with this software, more than I am with Wheat Snooper 2.8, 2.9 and so on.

So the things I need to do are (from AlTarf's and Senator's comments):

Ok, now I have time, just finished the RHCP book xd

So the things I need to do are (from AlTarf's and Senator's comments):

  • Independent windows for chat - I don't know if I can do this, don't really got the idea how could it be cool :/
don't forget I mentioned this should be an option as others might not like it, I do though...
  • Save the order of the nick list - OK
  • Login screen should be visible - I guess I should separate show login window and remember me checkboxes. Now remember me checks out show login window (not a bug, but a feature xD)
separating such windows isn't exactly necessary, I just don't want the login screen to disappear if I check the Show login screen at startup option (gets unchecked) forget about this, I learned a while ago that it's the Remember me box that causes this to happen, so if unchecked, it won't do stuff automatically anymore
  • News.. why is it: you can't really inform people on WormNet about anything, but with this at least you can reach GS users.. news should not appear when you have read them all.. so if you just press left or right arrow button to "read" all the news, it should not open next time, unless there is a new item. I guess I will remove the last thing and not force people to read all the news ;)
that's okay, I didn't know that, yet I think there should be an option to disable them
  • Logout - it's easier to close and reopen the application than making this xD I mean at the end I didn't have energy to make it, and for me it really don't look important, is it?
a disconnect button is good if you wanna change your login information, which I do a lot so I need that: I simply wanna return to the login screen rather than disconnecting by clicking the X and when reopening, connecting and logging on automatically
  • The update thing.. you could auto-start the snooper after being updated only with some hacks.. there is not so many updates that it should be annoying I guess
that's fine by me

I'd also like to add one last thing. Would it be too much if I asked an Information spot to fill in with your desired information? Like on Wheat Snooper, by default, your information is The Wheat Snooper 2.8/2.9/2.9.2 and, if you get rid of the snoop word, people don't know what you're using, and I'd like that. Thanks.

P.S. Is there a way for great snooper not to tell me I've already hosted a game when attempting to use wkRehost module to ropen a game?  :P

Is there a way to hide ignored players from the list? It's bad when I see someone red highlighted, because it grabs my attention towards a person I ignore xD

Hi! I need some help :D So the new snooper will have a list that will look like this: (you can check these options)

Search in:
 - game names
 - hoster names
 - messages
 - message senders
 - channel join messages

My question is: is this english enough? xd I mean is it right? :D

(I wanna release it tomorrow ;))

Hey guys!
I just want to notify you that the new version of Great Snooper is out!

It is called v1.4.2, what a nice name!  ;D

If the updater fails, you can do these:

Some new features can be turned off in the Settings!

What's new? Everything.

But really, there are a lot of changes. First of all the little changes:

Ok let's go for the great updates... ;)

#worms channel

You can join now #worms channel where you will surely get help for any W:A releated problems (and you can met some cool people here too :) ). This channel will not be visible by default (to prevent brainless people to join there), you must enable it in settings (Settings / General Settings / Show #worms channel)

#worms can be found on an other server, not on WormNet, so your nickname may be used on that server. In this case you can specify another nickname in the Settings.

Conversations

Yes, Great Snooper users can speak with more people in private at the same time! How it works? If you open a private chat with a Great Snooper user (and you select that chat) then right click on an other user from the user list and click "Add to conversation". This feature are available only for Great Snooper users (other snoopers can't handle this right now).

Great Snooper v1.4.2 is needed for all the users in the conversation! You can not add a user to a conversation if he/she is using other snooper or the game.

If you change the "Information message" in Settings, then this feature will not work!

Notificator

With this new feature you can look for words in the name of a game or in the hoster of the game or in messages or it can notify when a user joins a channel.
How does it work?

Ok let's see an example: you would like if you would get a notification when a shopper or a roper is being hosted or when SOMEBODY hosts a game. Then you add a notificator with the words "shopper" and "roper" (using 2 lines), select search in name of the games and select "equal to *word*" or "contains *word*". Then add another notificator with the word "SOMEBODY", select search in name of the hosts and select "equal to *word*" or "contains *word*". Then click start searching.

You can set the notificator sound in the settings btw. Default it is the same as League searcher's (if you haven't replaced it of course).

I may miss something for sure, take a look in the Settings to find them ;)

Ok i released a new update.

Modifications:

Another bug in updater:

Sorry guys I am not really in top shape  :( So if you installed the new version (v1.4.2) of the snooper with the installer, then the automatic update will fail. You need to download the portable version (https://www.tus-wa.com/files/download/file-628-2/) of the snooper and copy the Updater2.exe file to the installation directory or reinstall the snooper with the installer version (https://www.tus-wa.com/files/download/file-628-1/). The ones who updater the snooper with auto updater to the new version should have no problems.

By the way the best way to update the snooper if you just run the Updater2.exe (as administrator).

Great Snooper v1.4.4 (Peja edition)

Hi! I just made new changes to the snooper which was asked by Peja (not every changes were asked). You don't need to update the snooper if you don't want to (there won't be popup message that there is a new version).

But if you would like to use this new version then close the snooper and run Updater2.exe in the installation directory (usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Great Snooper) or download and install this version from here (https://www.tus-wa.com/files/file-628/)

What is new:

I also attached an image ;)

Hey Tomi.... is it possible to make this so you can DL it on android??

a snooper app?

would be cool to have snooper on my cell phone. thnx.

also: I did download today, but how do I update to newest version?? or If I have downloaded recent, it will be the newest version??

and, its just a petty thing, but I am not a big fan of the icon.. wish it was nicer ;p

also: I did download today, but how do I update to newest version?? or If I have downloaded recent, it will be the newest version??

If you have already installed a previous version then you can update it to the newest version these ways:

- Close the snooper and go to the installation directory (usually Program Files (+-(x86)) / Great Snooper) and run Updater2.exe or Updater.exe if it is really old version :D
- Or download the portable version of the snooper and extract it to the installation directory (overwrite the files)
- Or delete the snooper completely and install it again using the installer

The portable version and the installer which you can download from tus is always the newest version. If the snooper doesn't show up a message when you start it that there is a new version then it is updated already.

and, its just a petty thing, but I am not a big fan of the icon.. wish it was nicer ;p

Well this is the best I could do xD I remember that I failed in drawing in the high school at the first half of the year xD (and when I not failed then I passed it with the worst note which is not fail xD) What I'd like to say is I am really bad in designing and drawing so I can't make better :/

Maybe I will try it somewhen (ZexorZ told me an app that could translate the code of the snooper to android) but not these days.. coz I started another stupid project: I started to repaint my room using the help of youtube xDD So from now on "please, think of me as a painter not a programmer" :D

hey Tomi, just thought I'm mention a bug with your program that I've been able to replicate over and over again.
1. minimize great snooper via (http://i.imgur.com/H6F1uL6.png)
2. in the taskbar, right click 'Great Snooper' (http://i.imgur.com/67yelYO.png) and click 'close window'

expected result - great snooper closes to tray (and can be brought back by clicking notification icon)
actual result - great snooper becomes unresponsive and/or crashes

can anybody else replicate this behavior? i'm using windows 7

dont think i have had this problem...

Tomi: is there any option to close snooper when a game starts?? i see an option to minimize when game starts, i would like to close.. dont like ppl PM'ing me.. and, just dont want added programs running that could possibly cause lag..   a lot of times i will just minimize w:a to log off snooper, but thats a bit annoying.... no big rush, but if you do a future update, maybe you can add this? thank you! <3

Avi: right click on the game you want to join and choose join and close snooper ;) (Actually the snooper will be closed when the game really starts)

Tomi: goom is using a classic skin. So his right-click menu is probably different from yours. Shift+RightClick the taskbar icon to open the regular menu and close (and that option generates a different window message).

Great Snooper 1.4.7 is out!

Changes:

- User groups: you can add users to groups by right clicking on the user and choose a group. This way you can have more "buddy lists" :D Because of this feature buddy list was removed, it was replaced with the "Buddies" group. Your buddies won't disappear, they will be copied from buddy list to buddies group. The name and the color of these groups are editable in the Settings.

- EnergySave Mode: with this mode the snooper will use really low CPU resources when it is hided, or when W:A is opened, so hopefully little lags caused by the snooper will be gone!

- Code review: usual code review to optimize the source code of the snooper more. It is recommended to update the snooper, because lot of things were changed to make the snooper work better and faster.

Hey Tomi,

Every single time I quit WA (pressing alt + f4) all my friends and the games that people hosted disappears on me in Great Snooper. I keep having to exit out and reload Great snooper because of that. here's the video of it:
&feature=youtu.be. i loaded up the game, pressed ctrl + f4 while in-game and when i went to great snooper, my friendlist/games that people hosted are all gone and i have to restart my snooper every single time.

Tomi, i had lags while playing Big Rope Race, but it was pretty ok while roping at small maps. Wheat snooper lags constantly and no matter what. Thank you mate, great work :)

A suggestion: ProSnooper sorts people by logging-in time - first in, first in the list; last in, last in the list. Its pretty useful, so if you can, add this kind of sorting please.

Great Snooper 1.4.8

The new version is out:

- Bug fixes (EnergySave mode, Reconnecting bug, etc.)
- Sounds for groups: you can add sounds for the groups to play when somebody comes online from a specified group (So you don't need to put your clanmates into buddies group if you would like to hear a sound when a clanmate joins). (Settings / Sounds)

Another bug in 1.4.7

I nicely f@#!ed up the auto updater so it won't work.. if you have Updater3.exe in the install dir, then you can update with that. If you have Updater.exe, I don't know, try it.. If you don't have any working UpdaterX.exe, then please download it from here and copy it into the install dir and run it. Or you can download the portable version too from here (https://www.tus-wa.com/files/file-628/) and overwrite the files.

This version sucked really.. sorry :)

I am solving your problems right now..

One more thing, every single time you update your Great Snooper, your settings/friends/etc gets deleted and return back to its normal default settings. Is there a way to prevent that? If so, can you show me? :/
Solved in 1.4.9.

In 1.4.8 the new friends group was updated to the old buddy list (<1.4.7), so if you made any mdifications in 1.4.7 then only those were "lost" (they can be restored, let me know if you are interested how to do that).
The other settings that you was using in previous versions should come back fine after you restarted the snooper. (This will be solved also in 1.4.9)

Farco, XanKriegor, please try to catch me in #AG!

awesome, glad you like it :D spent about an hour on this lol...

so you will handle it from here?? you will scale it to the sizes you need???

also, maybe crop it with a circle around it, and have the square transparent... most icons are circled buttons...

so if the square does not look right on windows, let me know, i can make it more of a button shape with the back transparent...

also: if you want the photoshop file, so you can edit this direct, let me know. thnx

edit: made the round icons, with transparent background... also made some red ones, if you like the red better... blue is my favorite color, but im kind of liking the red....its more of a hot pink you could say, but i rly like it ;p looks good in this situation

i also made the blue more vibrant, and the S on each image pop more, it was a bit hard to see once the image got scaled down to icon size...

i can make this any color you want, if you wanna see a different color Tomi, let me know.

Hey Tomi,

GS installer - The GS doesn't load for me for reason. No matter how many times i click on it. It just doesn't load up. I tried uninstalled and re-install it for at least 5 times and I still have yet get it to work. I even restart my computer like twice and that still doesn't work.

GS Portable - I got it to work nicely using the portable version. But i would need help on getting  my GS to get back up running again through installer.

I guess something went wrong with your settings. Maybe you should delete/rename that folder. If you have windows 7 then open the start menu and type there "%appdata%", then press enter. Then the folder "AppData\Roaming" will be opened. Go back one folder and choose "Local". Then choose Tomi or ToOMiToO folder. In that folder there will be the setting folders that belongs to the snoopers at different locations. So one of the folder will belong to the snooper that you run from the installer directory (Program files I guess) and the other(s) belong(s) to the portable version. Unfortunately you can't really determine which is the directory you need to delete/rename, so which belongs to the installer version of the snooper. You can delete/rename that folder or the folder "1.4.8" which is in it.

If you would like to keep your settings (because you costumized the snooper for example) then send me your settings file (which is in the directory "1.4.8" -> user.config) and I will try to find the error.

Great Snooper 1.4.9

New week, new Great Snooper :D (Joke, I hope this one will be a long release that will have no major bug, sorry for the last 2-3 versions :D)

What's new:

 - many bug fixes
 - performance upgrade :D snooper should run much faster and the game shouldn't lag anymore! ;)
 - there are also some new colors (change them if you don't like them) :D

So it's highly recommended to update the snooper :)

The icon is still the old one, because I couldn't put your logo in the snooper avi, because the height and the width of the pictures are not the same.. and it must be minimized to 32x32 and 48x48 pixels and it looked bad :(

Well, finally this time has come..

I plan to make great snooper multilingual. Of course only if there will be some volunteers who would translate the texts to his/her own language. So if you would do this, please leave a comment ;)

I think it can be done in less than a hour.

I will do the hungarian translation :D

(Probably an english translation would be cool too, coz I think there must be some grammar mistakes in the snooper right now :D)

Hi!

I have finally written out all the words and sentences from the application, so they can be translated now. I will upload the english translation file here, all you need to do is open it with a text editor and translate the english words/sentences into your language.

For editor you can use any text editor, however i suggest you to use notepad++. When you open this txt file with notepad++, choose language / M / Makefile and then it will be colored quite well.

Here is an example how i translated something into hungarian:

Quote
# The content of the Yes button of the popup message
YesText=Igen

I commented it out as much as I could, but if you have any question ask me. The first two "settings" will be set by me, you don't need to modify them.

Not sure if this happens to anyone else too but well...

1. GS won't exclude a player from channel players list when he leave the channel with some text in the "part" message. Logs:
Spoiler! View

KVIrc:
[13:10:17] WTF-8 has joined #worms
[13:10:27] WTF-8 has left #worms: sample text
[13:10:37] WTF-8 has joined #worms
[13:11:17] WTF-8 has disconnected: Quit: sample text

GS:
(Join) 13:10:17 WTF-8: joined the channel.
(Join) 13:10:37 WTF-8: joined the channel.
(Quit) 13:11:17 WTF-8: has left the server (Quit: sample text).
(Quit) 13:11:17 WTF-8: has left the server (Quit: sample text).

Now compare those timestamps.

2. Screwed up error messages about "this nick is currently in use". GameSurge-only, again. Great Snooper seem to only check #worms nick status for once (at the time when the first attempt to connect to the GameSurge happens) and then it'll use these results for as long as the user won't log out or close the snooper instead of re-checking them every time the user tries to connect to the server. This can result in never ending "Connecting..." thingy (if the first time everything was nice but second time the nick IS already in use) or "this nickname is already in use" error message appearing for no actual reason (same conditions as previous one but vice versa).

Few more questions...

1. Why is font settings' sample text placed in Away manager section?
Spoiler! View

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

..............

# Example label
ExampleLabel=Example

# Player label (in the label "Player: message")
PlayerLabel=Player:

# Message label (in the label "Player: message")
MessageLabel=message

2. Where in the world are conversation logs?

3. Is "ServerInfoTitle=" used at all? It seem to be a heading but "ServerInfoText" hint may not have a heading.

4. What is the point of doubling WormNAT2 greetings message? ("WormNAT2GreetingText")

Edit:
5. Find someone who will leave soon. Right-click on his name in users list. Wait until the player leaves. Then click on "Chat with this user" button. Bah! His nick shows up in green color, which mean he's online (while he is not). Furthermore, sending a PM to the "ghost" won't force GS to re-check his status, unlike it was in GS v1.3.1!

Edit (2):
6. "FontChooserTitle" seem to be unused too.

Hmm, GS is my favourite. It's small and have great transparency, but i use wheat snooper last few days because GS crashes every few minutes. Especially if he's working in the background. For example, when i finish 10 minutes game, must restart GS for joining #ag again or it won't show me who's online and which games are hosted.

So if you need to fix something, try repare that.
Maybe somehow manage it to use less mobile data, cause there's many wormers there using smartphone as a modem.

All in all, very nice little program, hope it will just get better through updates.

The first problem is that the so called EnergySave mode doesn't work on some system well. It can be turned off as said in 2-3 posts ago.

The 2nd request is done I guess. It is using really the minimum data transfer to work. If I would add an option to turn off flags and ranks then it could be minimized more, but dunno if people would like that or not.

My GS keeps crashing only when TUS is down oO
This is a win xp problem. To be honest I haven't really tested the snooper on xp, but to do it ^^

@WTF-8: hm this is also a good idea I think people who have 2 wa installed would like it.

You can just left "Download flags and ranks" checked by default, who don't need it will uncheck it themself. Flexibility is a good thing. But not always ahuahuaha (http://www.independent.co.uk/incoming/article9752212.ece/alternates/w620/bendtwo.jpg)

Had a question about Great Snooper and WormNAT2... when hosting through Great Snooper (I host all my games through snooper anyways) do I just need to check the WormNAT2 checkbox WITHOUT having wkWormNAT2.dll in my WA folder, or do I need the .dll in my folder along with checking the box? Hi Tomi. Dunno, it doesn't looks like GS's problem, but nevertheless:

[attachment=1]

I use Gs at laptop and internet access via WiFi by a smartphone. 17:23 - i went out with the phone, laptop lost connection with inet, WinXP shows this message. If i hit either button, GS would be terminated. I did not. I get back at 22:26, laptop found inet, Gs reconnected and working well. But the messege ofk still here.

Nothing to fix here i guess, so i put it here just to let you know. May be connecion loss is just unhandled error?

Ty.

I hope it wouldn't crash too much.

if you experience crashes on GS 1.49, you should go in settings and uncheck the box of "safety mode". It's actually not crash, it's program turning off everytime you start the game.

By far the biggest and probably the only "problem" with that version.
(well, group chats not working for me tbh, don't know why, but they're not so important anyway)
Title: Re: Great Snooper | 3rd chapter
Post by: WTF-8 on October 27, 2015, 12:48 AM
@Sensei
Seems you misunderstood it.
1. "safety mode"? wth, do you mean "energy save mode"? Eh, it doesn't help with this issue anyway.
2. It crashes (with a standart "great snooper.exe has done something wrong and will be terminated" message) when my internet connection goes nutz, and launching or closing the game doesn't help. I doubt it has something to do with the game itself.
3. It started to happen since v1.4
Though I have seen it reconnecting w/o crashing, this only happened 2-3 times out of 20+ reconnect attempts.

probably the only "problem" with that version
Crashing is the only major problem I can remember (because I couldn't do very much...), but there are few less important problems, like that one which cuts off some letters (g -> q, for example).

Im sorry if this was already discussed but I didn't find it via search.

I have a problem with Great Snooper  :'( and such a great program... anyways...

When I host big maps.. like Big Tower Race or something along those lines what happens is that parts of the map become inaccessible.

Let me clarify. Part of the map can't be teleported to nor can I place worms there in the beginning of the game. This can be very frustrating when players need to start on "start" and can't do so.

This has happened many times and is not a map or a scheme thing. Recently I isolated the problem - Great Snooper. When I host the same map without the snooper everything is fine, but if I use it this bug happens. I'm using 2.1 version. Maybe someone figured a way around this?

Again I'm sorry if this was discussed already and thank you all for your time.

Would be nice if snooper creators would make some kind of co-operation. For example: you can't make group chats with guys from Wheat if you're using Great Snp.

It's kinda f@#!ed up cause users in WormNET are separated, I would say 50/50, by snooper they use.

Great Snooper starts the game with the parameters required for hosting and nothing else, so this sounds a little interesting. I suggest you to open a topic about this in Tech Support forum, where the actual developers of w:a may answer this question, since I think I cant. Or with great snooper you can join #worms channel and there you can ask for help from StepS, CyberShadow or Deadcode. Or just use great snooper to start w:a and create the host from the game :o

What operating system do you use btw?
Title: Re: Great Snooper | 3rd chapter
Post by: WTF-8 on February 09, 2016, 08:35 AM
1. Just noticed that GS crashes if I try to launch WA with invalid path to WA.exe specified :|
It could say something like "WA.exe not found, the path is a lie" instead of crashing, eh?

2. Clicking on the Close button (the X in the up-right corner of snooper's window) after GS connects to a server (when login window disappears and the main window appears) but before channels list & stuff could appear results in the main window staying empty until closed manually. Not that it's a big problem, but still. BTW, clicking at the "Filter..." thing in this condition would make GS crash (yet again).
[attachment=1]

Also, for anyone experiencing GS crashes upon disconnection: I got rid of them by disabling "Load TUS users" & "Load games" options in Network settings. Do anyone else want to try this?

GS doesnt crash if your connection is good.

But there is one thing to complain - 1.4.9 highlights a reason of Notificator's sound, for example - i hear the sound, do Alt-Tab to GS, and in few seconds i can see a message in the tray - it was a cpecific word, or a friend came on AG or anything. v 2.1 doesnt do that.
Title: Re: Great Snooper | 3rd chapter
Post by: WTF-8 on February 22, 2016, 09:41 PM
Typing stuff into Notificator and then closing the window with either Close or X buttons wipes out all the stuff I typed
geezuz

I'd also like to see GS saving logs every 5 minutes or so instead of waiting to get closed and only then save those damn logs. This way there'd be less logs lost due to crashes and shit.
Title: Re: Great Snooper | 3rd chapter
Post by: Tomi on February 23, 2016, 08:02 AM
I dont want to add such logging system, because it might (not sure about it, and cant test it coz i have ssd) cause little lag on some system every 5 minutes which i think they would not like.

I will look after the notificator problem one weekend, but i thought i fixed it last time.

Edit: ah ye i remember why i did it like that: imaginr a scenario when you edit things in notificator, but you want to undo it, then you can just close the window. To apply changes you should start notificator now. The solution could be a popup message when closing which asks if you would like to save changes.

Today i was working on Great Snooper. Hopefully I corrected all the bugs reported here (except the ones below) since the last update, but I don't have time and strength to release it yet and I will need 3 more sentences to be translated which I will send the translators in private. When you are done I will release the bug fixes ;)

I haven't implemented logging in x minutes function but I added logging on crash function. So if an error occurs the messages will be logged.

This version just doesn't show the tray popup message when game is on coz it caused lags. But I think we can live with this issue or is it really bad?

Great Snooper 2.2 is out

If the snooper fails to start the updater then run it (Updater.exe or Updater2.exe) from the installation directory.
If the updater fails, then download portable version (https://www.tus-wa.com/files/download/file-628-2/) and overwrite files.
(Close snooper first in both cases ^^)

Changes:
- German language support by chakkman
- Reset settings bug fixed
- Order bug fixed
- Remember window state feature
- Notificator logic update
- Log messages on crash
- Other bug fixes

What operating system do you use btw?

I'm using win10. This happened on any very big map. Every and each one. Specifically the bottom of the map gut cut of. What was strange is that you could walk there just couldn't  teleport or anything "click-wise". And that's not just me, but every player in the game I hosted. If others hosted those maps and I joined it was fine. It happened enough times for me to realize it's the bottom of the big maps and when I wanted to play something offline I didn't use the snooper and it didn't happen.

I thought that this was maybe a known issue when I posted it first. Since it was only me I took some time to reply. Now I tried reproducing this bug(v2.2) so I could give you a specific map this happens on(I usually loaded random one from wmdb). This time everything worked fine. I am sure I wasn't on drugs. At least not on any hallucinogenic ones. At least not every time. And you saying this bug of mine makes no sense f@#!s with my head.

Edit: Can you tell which options does Snooper use when running WA.EXE(run as an administrator, compatibility etc)? I'm asking because my friend sometimes looses all audio in a game(rarely thou) and if game is alt-tabbed when this happens you can't tab back. This used to happen to me but doesn't anymore and I think it stopped when I started using snooper. He won't use it because he's a stubborn bitch. Thank you.

hm I don't know what I have changed this time, but i am glad that it works for you now.

The snooper starts wa in normal (not administrator mode). As far as I know wa doesn't like running in administrator mode. Btw such errors can happen if you (or your friend) installed wa in program files folder and you are not admin user in windows. WA writes things in its folter (User folder) which is not possible in program files unless you run the game with admin rights.. -> solution: reinstall wa not in program files.

I'm thinking to downgrade snoop on 1.49. Afaik, that one was the most stable.
2.2 crashes a lot for no reason. Dunno if previous versions could do this but: when, for example, my net drops - snooper goes down. When net comes back few seconds after, GS can't retrieve itself. So i need to close it, and then start it again with other nickname. And, what's most important - noticed there are no saved chats after drop. Lost some important msgs few days ago when snooper crashed.

Is this somehow fixable or downgrade would be best option? Cause i really can't remember this stuff happened back then.

Sounds like that problem I have with #worms channel.  Sometimes GS simply fails to reconnect to it and loops forever, this usually happens after a long connection loss. No idea how to fix this.

Didn't experience any until 2.2 version.

Tested 1.5 (beta): disconnected from network and connected again. It managed to retrieve itself and saved chat. Practically all I needed, so, gonna stick to this one.
Can't host games tho, but it's better to host it with actual .exe file of the game anyway.

Hey m8. You can't join WormNET with 2 same nicks. Change your snooper nickname into niff-snp (or something).

EDIT: nvm, experienced same problem now. Game is buggy, snooper working fine tho. Try host/join games with it.

hey guys. i've been looking for a way to quickly switch between my away/back state. (aside from clicking (http://i.imgur.com/Vdt2PcJ.png) and then the appropriate dialog option) during my endeavor, i even tried '/afk' in the snooper chat ::)

i'm fully aware of the 'mark me away when game is started' feature, but don't wish to use that.

Quote
    Alt + Left: switch tab
    Alt + Right: switch tab
CRTL + W: close a private chat tab
CTRL + F: focus the filter
Right and Left arrow in the News section to switch news

is this an exhaustive hotkey list, or have any others been implemented? this post was the only information i've found regarding snooper shortcuts, aside from the wiki.

so anyways, i'd like to request a keyboard shortcut to toggle away/back, something like CTRL+SHIFT+A(way).

in addition, i think a 'find' command (could use CTRL+SHIFT+F since CTRL+F is taken) to search through the chat would be a wonderful addition.

thanks!

There is no hotkey for it right now, but /away, /back should work in chat

talking of possible features, any chance we get a possibility to ignore players by a mask? e.g. you type "*noob*" into ignore list and that'll hide all messages sent by anyone who has "noob" in his nick
might as well do the same with usual player groups, though it isn't that useful there
Title: Re: Great Snooper | 3rd chapter
Post by: Tomi on September 05, 2016, 07:38 AM
I dont know if that would be a really good feature.. why would you like to ignore sdainub? :D

However i plan to start developing 2.2 (or 2.3?) update with some minor bug fixes and features and maybe a bigger new feature.. i am thinking about a matchmaking system for tus again.. i will look after possibilities..

So if anyone has noticed a bug so far or have some minor feature ideas or any thoughts about the matchmaker thing or AGAINST a feature request, post it ^^

So far i know about the league game searcher bug that it sometimes fails and a change request for loading old messages when opening a private chat with a user and probably adding those shortcuts requested by goom.

One more thing to think about: people trying to get help on #Help.
I want GS to notify me of people asking anything, because otherwise it's extremely difficult to notice someone asking for help unless I spend the whole day and night sitting in front of my monitor looking at GS window. Right now the only way to do that is to use Notificator and put a few keywords in it (e.g. "help", "what", "how", "host", "join" etc), but that can interfere with random talks on #AnythingGoes. Then there's a possibility of a person asking something in another language, or making a typo, or whatever, and none of these would be noticed by Notificator.
So, how about something to make GS highlight first (first two? otherwise it'd highlight "hi" way too many times..) phrase said by any person, which would only work on #Help? Perhaps a specific sub-option in Notificator could work.

Maybe consider an option to make group convos with players using both programs (great and wheat), it's pretty limited this way. Cause atleast 2 out of 5 ppl are gonna use different snooper.
Title: Re: Great Snooper | 3rd chapter
Post by: Tomi on October 17, 2016, 03:12 PM
Wtf-8: hm i guess the best solution would be for this to add rules to the notificator like "how((#help))" to specify the channel name for the rule. What do you think?

Sensei: i dont really know who is developing wheat snooper right now, but if he finds me, we can discuss about it. Anyway is that feature working well? I cant test it, coz Brenda refuses to update the snooper xd

Anyway one solution for this is to join #worms channel and type there "/join #myroomname".. i guess it might work :o
Edit: ah wheat doesnt have #worms.. so nevermind

Not a flawless solution, see above for a reason
there's a possibility of a person asking something in another language, or making a typo, or whatever, and none of these would be noticed by Notificator.

But if there's nothing better, it'd probably work

i guess * works for everything or even +... so "*{{#help}}" might be good (i wanted to write {{}} in prev message too, but couldn't find it on my phone xd)

I'm not sure if I want to get beeped by random flooders. Plus sometimes people in #Help do actually talk, sometimes for 10+ minutes, that might be annoying if it'd beep all these 10 minutes non-stop. And yet that's much better than nothing.

it would be a little annoying if snooper would be beeping for all ~20 minutes non-stop

Now it's up to you to decide how to do this, though there's a suggestion I made earlier:
Quote
how about something to make GS highlight first phrase said by any person, which would only work on #Help?

BTW, if you make this feature simple enough, #Help might get some more people who are willing to help, instead of just me and StepS. That's something it really needs.

Ah i see.. so what about a paramater for a notiicator rule to tell how often it should happen per user or per channel.. so i mean if you set a rule that it should beep on any message (sry but i cant write intelligent parser for messages to filter spam) in #help but only if its timeout is reached. That might work or not?

Sounds good, and the fact it wouldn't produce way too many sounds sounds even better! Hopefully there are no rakes I didn't notice. Maybe you could ask someone else so they could have a fresh view on this.

Ah btw today I had about an hour to develop the snooper, I read the last sites of this topic and I saw that 2.2 still has that strange bug that it crashes with bad connection. But I haven't seen any log file there, so can I ask someone who has that bug to reproduce it and send me the errorlog.txt in private message?

hey, Tomi: in the g. snooper chat the command ctrl+X wasn't working for me earlier (typing and ctrl+A, ctrl+C, delete, backspace etc. were unaffected). i can't replicate this behavior now, but let me know if anybody encounters something similar (i'll be back!) or why it was happening.

it ended up going away on its own without closing the program 12 hours later when i was making this post (to initially complain ctrl+X wasnt working period :P) i would write it off as another program blocking the hotkey, but it was working everywhere else fine (and i haven't closed anything since then).

thanks.

I hope you could do a small modification.

When using the search for league games function, it asks "TUS anyone?"

Please add "TUS anyone? PM me" or something like that

Sometimes people answer on AG and wonder why I dont answer.

heeeeey why does he keep coming back without even quitting
It seems that private message tabs either don't bother with recording quits (or just simple leaving from a channel?) or there's something wrong in them. If anything, that was on official WormNET server, with said person seen on #AG.

Also, judging by #AG GS is now the most popular snooper, gj

Is it possible to host a game by GS with my network settings which I set in the game: ip and port?
I can host via game with no problems tho.  ???

Hi, no it is not possible, because there wasn't such request so far. Why do you host like that? I mean by specifying the ip and port.
Title: Re: Great Snooper | 3rd chapter
Post by: Honker on April 10, 2017, 10:37 AM
I'm using DDNS with 'Force IP' because I have dynamic IP. Normally I host like this with no problems, so I don't need WormNAT2.
If such a feature to use the ip/port settings for hosting via GS like I do in-game is being included, I would be so gladly appreciated.  8)

Also I can't use WormNAT2 via GS it shows my game on WormNet but only for a few seconds and disappears or not appears at all. I turned off 'Force IP' and looks like it's the same if I use or not 'Using WormNAT2?' in GS I just can't host whatever I do BUT if I try to host with WNAT2 just in-game without GS it works.  ???

I managed to get one more Wheat user to join us on the dark side.. But that player found a small disadvantage while using GS. Apparently, there is no notification sound when someone from your buddy's list hosts game on WormNET. I tried to check around settings, but couldn't find it too. It's a nice little add, so if you're planning to do more upgrades, Tomi - maybe put that one too!?

Thx.

This has been my favorite snooper for years, sadly it doesn't work for me anymore. I started it for the first time in about a year and tried to hop in a game, but the game screen that pops up is just black. No sound, only the loading icon Windows cursor, game hangs. Tried starting the game normally without the snooper, no problems there. I also updated the snooper to the newest version, didn't fix it. Also tried reinstalling and rebooting, but nope. I'm using Windows 10 and I believe it worked without problems last summer and I'm pretty sure I was using this crappy Windows 10 already back then. I'm using the latest drivers for my GTX 660. No problems with other games either. Running the latest version of the game. Anyone have a clue how to fix this?

Edit: Changed graphics API to DirectDraw (32bit) and now the Snooper works normally, but I want to run it with Direct3d 9 (shader) instead since with it the game runs much more smoothly  :(

by the way to be sure that this is a problem with great snooper you can test with another snooper. usually they use the same methods and parameters to do their job, so if both snoopers fail then it is most likely a bug of the game (a graphics bug maybe) and if the other snooper works, then gs spoils something.

Thanks! I should've tried that earlier... Same problem with Web Snooper so it's not a problem in your program. I will try an older Nvidia driver.

Edit: Older drivers didn't work but I tried running my Steam version of the game and it's working perfectly. I guess I'll start using it!

He can add names to the notificator (in hoster names) and then it will notify him when somebody from the list hosts a game.

Why would you need this feature? I mean you want to generate a wa:// link similarly to the /url command in the game lobby or do you need the address of the game for direct ip connection maybe?

Well, there is a problem. Otherwise I wouldn't post here :)

Thx for the module, I use direct IP for a few days now, so it should come in handy. Altough, need to find a fix for snooper hosting. Will try to get earlier version. I remember GS 1.49 worked like a charm.

EDIT: can't remember did 1.49 even had option for hosting? Anyway, if someone have older snooper versions, please send me files.

Game starts only for me. It gets immediately removed from #ag.
I tried everything. Checking/unchecking Wnat2 while hosting. Forcing direct IP in W:A settings..
Xan sent me 1.5 version of GS, didn't work either (if it was even possible with that one).

Now I'm on Wheat Snooper. It's working here without problems.
Tho I would rather get back to GS. Can you please send me few older versions so I can check them through?
Title: Re: Great Snooper | 3rd chapter
Post by: Tomi on September 08, 2017, 05:30 AM
GS checks if the game is already started by looking for the game window (which is different than the lobby window) and it also closes the game when the lobby window is closed. My first thought is that this logic is corrupted somehow which means that it can't find the lobby window, because it might have a different name.

Unfortunately (or fortunately) this logic can't be turned off right now. Turning off this logic would mean that all games hosted by the snooper would remain in the game list until they reach a timeout and not until it has been started.

I will think about this a little more, but i guess an older version of GS wouldn't solve this, because this logic is implemented from the very beginning.

Hi! Sup? Yesterday I wanted to post here a nice message, but accidentally I closed the browser and it all went to the happy hunting ground. But let's try again.

So there is that W:A 3.8 thread and the idea of releasing a new version even if it's unfinished. Well I will definetely do that now to Great Snooper, since I can see that I will probably never be able to release a stable version with all the requested features and those things. So here is a version that has all the development of the last 2(?) years: many bug fixes, some new features, but some still missing and there is at least one which is not complete at all, but looks good. :)

Ah shit I've writted such a good post and look at this.. anyway let's continue:

Here is a not complete changelog: (since the development of this was not that professional)

There might be more fixes, even features I can't remember :) If you find one, please post it here! ;)

But remember that this version is released from the development as it was, so there might be bugs. That's why I don't release it "officially", only post a link here. The minor bugs I will fix here. Consider yourself as a tester if you try this version.

There is no installer, just extract the files and run Great Snooper.exe. You can overwrite the files of the previous version, but I suggest you to create a backup first.

ps.
On my machine Avast told me that it has IDP.Generic (whatever it is). I told avast then "take a step back and literally f@#! your own face". I mean if this happens then you should add the folder where you extracted the app to the exceptions of the antivirus. If you don't trust me then check the source code or don't use this. Sry but I am not in the mood to investigate why avast is stupid.

Finally the most important thing: https://www.dropbox.com/s/xtystfal0j9y1mc/Great%20Snooper%202_2_2%20-%20Portable.zip?dl=1

Have a nice evening
Tomi

Those standard colors are meant that the user who sent the message is not online anymore. When you use the chat mode then you wont answer somebody who is not online anymore.

For me it was interesting that wormnat hosting started to work again after months. I think the issue was not snooper related, since it hasn't changed for years and worked for years. So something went wrong with wormnat or wa server or they got updated. But I just checked it and it worked (however I tried it twice, because nobody joined the first host :()

How come it works for you? Hosting/joining from GS just makes it crash on my system.
And it's been like that since 1.49 version or something.

Have you tried on other systems like another notebook / pc? Since it works for most people I think the issue is with your system. Maybe you are using some special tool or antivirus software which kills it. But there should be an error log about the problem in the errorlog.txt. Type /log in a channel to locate the file.

Sent you everything in discord private convo.
Check it out when you catch some time.

I did change whole system recently, but same thing. Dunno why it's happening.

Here's 2.2 (https://www.tus-wa.com/files/file-628/) and then a bunch of smaller versions after that: 2.2.2 (https://www.tus-wa.com/forums/files/great-snooper-3rd-chapter-25137/msg265714/#msg265714), 2.2.3 (https://www.tus-wa.com/forums/files/great-snooper-3rd-chapter-25137/msg265751/#msg265751), 2.2.4 (https://www.tus-wa.com/forums/tech-support/cant-host-a-game-via-great-snooper-31975/msg269304/#msg269304). I'd say go with .3 and then try .4 in case of hosting problems.

Vok, try to extract / copy the files in a different folder, then you'll have a fresh start. Other than that I might have missed an exception handling :D and if check. Net framework is installed correctly

Great Snooper hosting/joining started working again for me.. It wasn't the issue with the program (or it is, depends if tomi thinks that's an issue), but my system!

WA was ran in compatibility mode with WinXP ServicePack3 until few days ago.. Went through my mind few mins ago to try out snooper hosting now and it actually did work.

So for anyone that have WA running in compatibility mode, don't do it, I guess! :/

Tomi, I use Great Snooper but when I try to host a game using it, although my game launch and I go to lobby, my game doesn't appear in AG. Any way to fix that?
PS 1: the option to use WormNat2 is marked.
PS 2: my version is 3.7.2.1.
PS 3: I host games without problem. I'm having problems only when I try to host directly in Great Snoop.

After some testing I have 3 things to say:

1) thank you Tomi for a fantastic app,
2) all app related features are working smooth,
3) the only downside is when I try to use the /open command after last game was finished, the game tells me:

"Cannot open a Direct IP game on WormNET"...

...so I assume that the snooper is using a different method of hosting at WN, than the game's engine by default, so there's no info about game being removed after 5 minutes or possibility to reopen it.

Is there some way to change this behavior or it's always like that with snoopers?

Nope, people have used this before https://worms2d.info/WkRehost

Thanks, surprisingly I was never interested with this one...

I assume it's working with v3.8, while I've just got back to 3.7.2.1, because at my hosts wkKawooshKick is really needed. Version 3.8 is really great, smooth and handy, but the kick ability is something that's really handy too, especially when you face different characters online :D

...tested it with 'great snooper 2.2' and it doesn't work, maybe because I've installed v3.7.2.1 again over the v3.8, dunno

Hey!

Here's a problem and fix while using GSYNC with Snooper (Not common problem at all, but I'll post it here anyways)

I had GSYNC enabled for full screen and windowed mode. With windowed mode enabled it looked like I had 15hz monitor (mouse lags and brightness goes up and down back and forth) every time I had Snooper open. When closed or minimize everything went back to normal.

Enable GSYNC for full screen only and problem solved. <- That's actually default.

I have a question and I am not sure if this is snooper related problem but, sometime it can seem that public comments made by people on my ignore list bypasses this Ignore function. Why?

Thank you.

I have discovered a flaw with the snooper in regards to Ignoring. Each time on reentry in channel AG, the setting ''Show banned users in user list'' reverts back to default EVEN if the checkbox is not checked. It needs to be rechecked, and this goes to ''Show messages of banned users in channel''.

It still works but it is cumbersome.

Thought Tomi would like to know....

This happens to me too, and in The Wheat Snooper too. Is this the case for everyone using these programs? Any solution?

Don't worry, it's not exclusive. Global message of error for everyone... Great Snooper is outdated, it's from before 3.8 afaik. . Probably some TUS changes messed with the loading of the league tables for auto messages looking for leagues.

Go to snooper -> Settings -> Network -> turn off the first checkbox "Load common settings".
