Files / Re: Missing soundbanks on Worms Armageddon 3.8.1 (GOG)

I remember hearing that some sound banks were removed because of political correctness. I assume "The Raj" and "Rasta" are considered racist nowadays.
The Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity commissars don't like Indians and Rastafarians. Surprise, socialists don't like things.

I'm already blind by myself with the good scheme of my laptop, yes, let's put this huge game into a smartphone so I cannot see literally anything more :D
I cringe just imagining W:A in 1080p on my phone. It wouldn't be as bad as X-Com, but OpenXCom Extended has zoom options. (I just kinda wish the UI and the Battlescape could be scaled separately...)

To be frank, I'm happy that the game gets the love it gets. It's... well, World Party was better before Deadcode and CyberShadow kept updating Armageddon. :P

There is a work-in-progress mod for this. It's "not suited for general release", however.

Tech Support / Re: Worms Armageddon music won't play
« on: April 23, 2022, 12:56 PM »
Okay, bumping my own post here, because I found out that (at least for Steam and GOG versions) there is indeed a "CD Tracks" DWORD in the registry. My manual moving of the game is what caused the issue, and W:A itself can't fix it by reassociating its pathnames. Unfortunately, it's a hexadecimal 8-bit value, so reinstalling symlinking the game seems to be the most convenient fix.

Just have to update the shortcuts. Hopefully anyone with the same issue will read this!

Have just confirmed that this solution works. (I'm used to symlinking, I already did it so that I can use my W:A soundbanks in Worms 2 without making copies)

If for whatever reason you need to manually move your Worms Armageddon installation to another drive, leave a symbolic link in the original location to where your W:A installation now resides.

If server-side software is closed source you will never know what it's doing exactly. It may or may not keep chat logs. There's no way of knowing. Always be careful of what you're saying!
Or else you will get cancelled.
Don't fear cancellation, stand up to it. There's a Gulag Archipelago page dedicated to that, but it's a bit long. Also, don't send personal information over unencrypted channels like a game from 1998 for Christ's holy sake. Don't say anything you wouldn't want put in a replay for all time. I love hoarding replays like a collection of memories from all games where they exist - and I'm still a bit sad about that one computer where I didn't back them up. Nothing quite like booting up a decade old match of Halo Reach to reminisce.

Tech Support / Re: WA Freezes After Returning Desktop
« on: April 23, 2022, 12:38 PM »
there is only one solution and it always work. DONT GO TO DESKTOP, have some respect to ur opponents
Really helpful answer. You DO know that the game pings you when its your turn right?

Right click WA Exe - Select Properties - Compatibility - Uncheck ''Disable full Screen Optimization.''

Open WA - Option - Advanced - Graphics - Select ''Direct3D 9 Shader''.
Disable both vsync options.
Enable Windowed Mode.
On Right side on Advanced ''Auto Register Association''.
Click on ''Register Association''.

To get most of Windowed mode, follow this guide:
https://www.tus-wa.com/forums/worms-armageddon/activating-stretch-in-windowed-mode-on-3-8-32814/msg276031/#msg276031

Also get SuperFrontedHD
https://worms2d.info/SuperFrontendHD

Other things to do is to reinstall WA completely and reinstall it. Don't have multiple version installed. I think this can cause conflict and problem with both WA.

Man thank you very much. These steps are helped. Especially i didnt know SuperFrontedHd module. Now I can run the game in Hd format. And I think the freeze problem solved. (Vsync disabled, Windowed mode enabled , Autho Register Association selected and SuperHdFronted installed.)
SuperFrontendHD is pretty much a must. It even makes the game run better on lower-end machines that take some time to change resolutions all willy-nilly. (not so bad when you're playing an actual 640x480 game like Quest for Glory 5, but Worms Armageddon supports 1080p!)

Tech Support / Worms Armageddon music won't play [FIXED IT MYSELF]
« on: April 23, 2022, 12:32 PM »
This one is honestly a bit weird. I have W:A installed on two laptops. One on its last legs (the integrated hard drive fails SMART tests) and another fresher (but still budget) one. The kind with 2 GB of RAM and an integrated eMMC NAND chip with only 32 GB of space. Both of them run W:A well, because it's not at all hard to run; naturally, the former one takes a lot longer to load stuff. Here's the kicker, though. It's the good laptop that can't seem to stream the music.

For reference, I tried turning off WormKit modules, and it still doesn't play the music. No errors or anything, just no music. I verified that the files are all installed on both systems (I even did a LAN game to compare, and the junker ran the music fine!) and even updated to the high quality versions and tested them again. The same thing happened.

The only difference between the two installations is that the working one is on the C: drive on Windows 7, and the not working one is on the D: drive on Windows 10. (I did move it there manually for reasons of storage limitations, but I don't think W:A cares much about that - it even fixes its own registry associations: maybe music is a strange exception?) Applying Windows 7 compatibility mode doesn't work either. The next thing I'll try once chkdsk does its work is probably to run the good laptop's installation on the crap one by network share. If that works... :D

EDIT: I did a little experiment, and symlinked W:A to my C: drive, and the music suddenly started working. Either it WAS because I manually moved the game, or the game itself doesn't like not being on the C drive. Only one way to find out. Well, two. I'll try RegEdit first.

If you're like me, and you already own the game but either can't use the disc (or it would be awfully inconvenient to do so) just grab the GOG version.

It's not so much for people to challenge themselves with inferior controls, moreso for you to hook a laptop to a TV to play the objectively superior PC version of Worms at a party. Passing the keyboard and mouse is way more difficult than passing the controller, but six teams of up to eight worms is far better than four teams of up to four.

Although some mad lads could do challenge runs with it. Some guy beat Sekiro with bloody bongos after all.

To a reasonable extent, of course. Sometimes the conservatives know what they're talking about and the progressives are stupidly or maliciously pulling for that cliff over there.

There's a difference between using TAS tools to practice your nading skills by seeing the trajectory and bringing that into PvP matches. But I think the guy who got really heated was just too angry to take a step back and read everyone's replies. Even so, it's a good thing. When cheats are such public knowledge the honest men step in and figure out how to stop them.

Files / Re: Worms Armageddon High Quality Music Pack

It's significantly less lossy than MP3.
He speaks truth. FLAC support would be nice, given that this is aimed at audiophiles anyway. (Good for team soundfonts too.)

Wormkit Modules / [Suggestion](/project?) wkControllerSupport
« on: March 28, 2022, 08:56 PM »
I know that mouse and keyboard are objectively better for playing this game to a high level of skill. But sometimes I just want to play hot seat Worms with a few lads :P and the PS1 version is definitely way easier to pick up and play. And sometimes lowering the skill gap is more fun at parties, you know? That's why items exist in Smash Bros.

So I always wondered why this game doesn't have controller support. Especially in current year, where you could literally run this game on a toaster. Simple party setup! One laptop with Worms installed, one HDMI cable, one controller, six mates. Even without how fancy the full Wormage has got recently, just having six players rather than four is a pretty great deal.

Since I'm not terribly experienced with programming, I wanted to know if it was even possible, or if some secret squirrel was doing it already (or had sequestered it somewhere in the annals of ancient versions that don't work anymore) before I dived in completely blind to try and do it myself. (To be honest, I don't even know what dependencies I need to work on modules... or even how to get the debugger to work. My experience really is quite limited.)

Wormkit Modules / Re: wkToolAssist v. 0.1.0 released
« on: March 28, 2022, 08:40 PM »
How is this not getting any hype and attention?  So much focus on worm order, while this masterpiece quietly flies under the radar..
I just want OP to know that I appreciated messing around with this. The fact that those water cheats are built in is actually good for a TAS tool. I could see it being good for training too. Practicing zook angles and all that. (Just need to use a wind cheat for more convenience than having a thousand schemes)

Wormkit Modules / Re: wkWormOrder v. 1.2.0 released
« on: March 28, 2022, 08:30 PM »
At first I was just going to use this module for replays and seeing total team health (so I don't cow in KTL games where the leader has like 1 point above second  :P) and not for scouting enemy worms in game. Not because of some deep-seated objection, but because it just wasn't the Worms I remembered from the PS1 days. But then I signed up to ask a few other questions, noticed this drama, and wow it really is easy to cheat and pull turn orders from replays. Now it makes me kinda mistrust people who don't use this.

For the sanity of this game's competitive scene, there really does need to be better anti-cheat. I don't play competitive so it's not really my fight - different communities always have different rules. (Super Mario Sunshine speedrunning uses a hacked save file to skip the intro!) If the Worms community doesn't like this, it needs to sort out how easy it is to pull turn orders through dishonest means rather than a convenient mod that says "Hey guys, I enabled a turn order scan feature! Turn yours on, or quit, or whatever! I'm an honest man!" - there were good suggestions like "pick a team and stick to it for the whole league" and also programming stuff. I would suggest baking the turn order into the RNG to obfuscate it, but that would require the shuffling of Worm orders too, and some might not like that. (This mod supports that, but I personally don't like it aside from missions, so...)

The RNG trick worked for crates and stuff (until someone nabs a Crate Spy) because the crate contents became Shrodinger's cat. Maybe the best choice is just to make it a customisable scheme option, add some anti-cheat, and let everyone hash it out.
