Worms Armageddon really the only active worms title right?
y
Can't say much about WMD, but maybe those patches would help it a bit for a week or two

Is this the main active place worms players actually frequent?

how does one come into the community at large
idk
I think you did it just fine

where are good places to find people to play with.
#AnythingGoes
as well as various leagues and stuff

I've done some googling and found a few sites that had worms communities on them but all are basically defunct due to inactivity.
http://steamcommunity.com/app/217200/discussions/0/522730700668956542/ "Currently active websites and community projects"
that's the most actual list I know

i feel that that is either not the place people play or the community is fairly small.
It's not that W:A got a big community, it's that other worms games have even lesser (or non-existing) communities. We don't have thousands of players over here, but what we have is still enough to just come into #AG, host something and get a few players within a minute, unless you're playing a very specific scheme (like Drown Syndrome) or live in an unlucky time zone - sometimes the server is indeed a bit empty.

Also, in case noone joins your games, might check out this http://worms2d.info/Hosting_guide - since whatever you host is hosted on your computer, it must be connectable from outside by port 17011 - make sure no sort of a firewall blocks that.

Awesome thanks for the info, as a follow up. I have W:A on steam, should i be using a different client or need a different version?

So let me start by saying, I have loved worms since I ever started playing it way back in the day with Armageddon. It was a ton of fun and I always revisit it at some point or another. I recently got Worms WMD and while I have had pretty decent fun it made me only long for a fun multiplayer experience with worms. I'm not here to trash talk other worms titles or anything like that and I'm not really suggesting that WMD has a bad multiplayer experience. Just well I haven't had much of one tbh due to lack of players, a problem that has somewhat plagued many worms games to come after Armageddon I find. I remember playing a decent amount of worms 4 multiplayer but after a few weeks to a maybe a few months (its hard to remember how long flashes in the pan really last). The game was totally abandoned.

I really love worms games and I kinda long for that multiplayer fun, without having to drag a friend over just to play worms with them... So my questions are this, Worms Armageddon really the only active worms title right? Is this the main active place worms players actually frequent? Basically how does one come into the community at large and where are good places to find people to play with. I've done some googling and found a few sites that had worms communities on them but all are basically defunct due to inactivity.

I own all the major worms titles on steam. But i feel that that is either not the place people play or the community is fairly small.

thanks for any help I appreciate your read :)
