Leagues Playoffs / Re: Clanners - Messed up....
« on: July 06, 2010, 11:42 PM »
Not sure if this would apply here, but I thought of something a long time ago but was never put into practice.
Right now, you could win a game and gain 40 points and your opponent loses 40 points...
My idea was to have it so you could win a game and gain 40 points and your opponent loses 20 points... exactly half of whatever you gain...
This does a few things...
1. It could raise activity.  I know for CKC, when chicken is on, he likes to have a 3rd clan member on because he can't rr very well... well with this system, you wouldn't lose as much points for a rr.  You would lose half of what the other clan gained.  So perhaps people would be willing to clan more knowing they won't lose a barrel full of points because the two members online can't cover a certain scheme.
2. I think it shows a true reflection of the clans abilities.  You could have really strong ropers playing in the clan and get a good roper rating, but sometimes you have a true defaulter on that can't rope well. Well, losing that roper with that nice big rating wouldn't put such a large hole into the rating after all. In other words, you don't get terribly punished for losing schemes your clan would normally win.
3. It helps with the higher ranked clans.  Right now, if a high ranked clan did 1-1, usually it would be a loss for them. For example, right now, if higher ranked clan A wins 25 points the first game, and loses 50 points the second game, they are down 25 points even though they made it even.  The system I proposed would mean clan A would have broke even at gaining 0 and losing 0.  Of course, the numbers won't be so exact all the time, but that is just an example.  When you do 1-1 in a clanner, it seems logical that you would end up at around the same rating you started as, give or take a few points... with the system now, it is a bit more punishing for higher ranked clans.
4. It doesn't create such a huge gap between clans.  I know in CKC's case, we tried to make a run for the playoffs the last day.. we went 5-1, but the one loss came from the clan who we were trying to knock out of the playoffs... we lost 59 points that game, they gained 59 points, and right there they bolstered their lead by 118 points just for winning one game... that pretty much ended any hopes of making the playoffs. The system I proposed would have only given them a 88.5 point gain for one game... at least it turns into something less devastating for 1 simple loss.  Basically, I guess this system would reduce blowout leads in the standings.

Of course with this system comes a lot of points generated from nothing, but idk what to tell you about that.  It could determine better candidates for the playoffs, or it could not... you never know without testing.  that's all I've got to input... peace yall................................  LOST IS THE BEST SHOW EVER!

So why not make the overall ratings a archive thing and and totally disregard it when it comes to playoffs?

Heh, I never understood how people could break their spacebar so fast.  I had used the same one at my desktop for 4 years until I switched to my laptop a year ago. never broke a spacebar and my laptop is the greatest computer i've played worms on :p

TUS Discussion / Re: VOTE : Limited girders in T17. Yes or No ??
« on: January 18, 2010, 06:30 PM »
No Maciej. But when you write that people are silly, and can't even think of a tactic, that makes me sad, and I really sorry for you^^ I don't really care who likes you or who not, anyway this topic isn't for our (yes, our : your and mine) idiot posts. So for me, topic locked.

Sogeking : It's true. But after SD if you have good weap / good hide, then you can win.

you need a situational weapon.. and those don't exactly fall into your lap every game

If blocks irritate u stop playing it, because as I see u are too silly to think about the tactic.

bold : i laughed

what kind of  tactic?

you just proved Maciejs point.

Thing your forgetting is that you have FOUR worms in t17, if all FOUR of your worms are blocked then you cant be playing well.

Its all about placement, if someone says to me "stop blocking me", I say "stop letting me block you"!

If your worms are being blocked every turn up until SD, then your not doing enough to evade it!

Its the attitude of "blocking is easy and unavoidable" that annoys me because it is simply not true, you can counteract a blocking opponant in MANY ways.

it is true blocking before SD is easy to evade, but when it comes to SD, you have 45 seconds to act, and if you can't figure out a way to block some worm or passage, than YOU are doing something wrong.  Like I said, a tactic that a total novice and an experienced player can pull off to defeat/draw an actual skilled player is a scheme flaw. that's why we don't allow 5 second sitters in bng, because noobs or skilled players could win doing it if they felt like being a dick.

TUS Discussion / Re: Limited girders in T17
« on: December 25, 2009, 06:20 AM »
here's my opinion:  when you have an unlimited supply of girders, little thought goes into laying them down.  at least with limited girders you have to put some thought into it when you want to lay a girder cos then you can't just mindlessly block your opponent out of desperation.  yes, desperation.  the only time you see people blocking every turn is when they get their ass demolished early on and just hope to get some crates by blocking.  and when you think about it, blocking is really easy, so even really bad t17 players can win/draw doing it if their opponent doesn't get any useful weapon, which happens a lot no matter how hard you deny it. When a skillful player can lose to a simple tactic that noobs and pros can both pull off easily, to me it is a scheme flaw.

concerning weapons, I've always said removing nanas, vases, armies, and maybe magic bullets would force the players to be more creative with the other weapons, thus improving the chances for the better t17 player to win in the already luck-filled scheme

TUS Discussion / Re: This league's playoff qualifications suck ass

Well he is talking about Flori. FLori is the first overall, Has his 50% winning percentage and have played enough games in this season. He lost 4 - 5 TTRR to Unique and went down. Maybe because soge doesn't know Flori history on TUS, Thinks it is this much unfair?

Yes, I still think it is unfair.   In a time where the amount of skilled wormers has declined, a ladder system like this only helps noob bashers and abusers of the system.  The reason why FB worked out was because you had so many highly skilled players who were competitive.  When you only have a handful of truly skilled players, the roll over of points from season to season shouldn't matter.  Just because flori was able to beat a bunch of scrubs throughout the seasons doesn't mean he deserves to be in the playoffs for having played at least 30 games and have a winning percentage of 50%.

Let's just compare me and flori for example (and I don't mean to brag, but I think this is a good example because flori is an obvious abuser of the system)

this season
                                                      Sogeking      Flori
Points this season:                          1865          657
games played:                                   36             42
winning %                                         75%         76.19%
current stance this season:              6th            157th
# of people in the top 20 played:       6                2
qualify for playoffs?                            no             yes

See what's wrong with this picture?
other notes that support my argument that this system is abused and flawed:
Flori's last 10 games were ttrr's against diana, which he gained 1 point, yes, 1 single point, for each victory.
Flori, for whatever reason, only played 2 different people who were in the top 20 this season, and his record was 2-6, losing like 300 points.

If this league was filled with skilled players like the old fb was, people like Flori wouldn't be able to get away with crap like this.
Having a community filled with less highly skilled players means 2 things:
1. it is easier to reach a 6000 point rank or "extremely high" rank like flori had, and
2. it is easier to sustain a 6000 point rank or "extremely high" rank and make playoffs with little effort with a broken system.

If I was informed correctly, then I'm aware the qualification system for the playoffs enters the top 4 people that got the most points from a single season, and the top 4 people with the highest overall points make the season.  That may have seemed like a good idea early on in the league, but it is season 8... anyone that thinks it over can see that it has basically changed from fighting for 8 spots, to fighting for 4 spots while 4 other wormers sit on their ass and barely put any effort into making the playoffs cos they know they qualify anyway (once again, flori is the prime example.)  So here we have about 8-12 truly skilled and deserving players and only 4 spots to fill, while 4 other wormers get in the playoffs regardless of how well they do from here on out.

Either get rid of the rule where the top 4 overall points make the play offs, or change the amount of playoff spots there are.. but with the rate playoffs seems to get done here, I'd suggest trashing the former.

I'm not delusional.  I had 2 snoopers in ag, Sogeking and TuscanChicken.  Sogeking was pming you about the tus, and TuscanChicken was pming you about "host shoppa??", and you were only responding to TuscanChicken via pm, and ignoring Sogeking... oh yeah, then you told me you were getting off, and I noticed you were on the tus site for over 30 minutes... you are a clear cut avoider, you just thought you'd never get caught sonny.  you are the decline and disgrace of worms, sir

has it only been unique who has used this option to rape and get in playoffs?? Maybe if over 1000 you only have the option of resetting every other season?

@soge
Ray doesn't know you mate and same thing happen to me. I pmed him in ag for TUS and said after his game and I couldn't find him, While he never refuses me.

yeah he doesn't refuse because he just stays silent and waits for you to leave.. oldest trick in the book

if weeman avoids a lot like xray does

totally true.  he told me he would tus me after I tus'd some guy, and I came back and starting pm'ing ray, and I got no answer, so I went into ag with the alias TuscanChicken and started to pm ray "wanna shoppa??" and Ray privately responded to TuscanChicken, but not to me, Sogeking, when I kept pm'ing him at the same time as I was with TuscanChicken.. then he finally told me he'd tus later and left the lobby.  you've been caught, boy

TUS Discussion / This league's playoff qualifications suck ass
« on: October 30, 2009, 12:18 AM »
Am I the only one that realizes that a player who is in 140th and makes the playoffs is completely retarded? Think about it... 140th place...  it's not just retarded, it's bullshit to the players who actually tried to play this season... I'm sitting here trying to figure out who the 8th player to qualify so far is.. and it turns out he is on the 7th page. Can no one see this is a terrible system?
