even I pushed for trying bo1 intermediate in recent past, but after playing intermediate more, that's just not how it's played right now (intermediate players like the balance of bo3).

maybe allow alternatives if both agree, but the default should probably still be bo3.

alternatives being: bo1, 'one restart' bo1, manual placement (gasp), etc.

was there ever a chat command/shortcut in the Shoutbox that would open an IM? or did that never exist? (could be dreaming)

I found when commentating, it seemed easier to do so when talking about more strategic schemes like Elite and maybe Hysteria. Was harder to think of stuff to say during a TTRR or BnG for example, but I'm just not as charasmatic ;p

You seem to have the right idea though, blending those things seems best.

Even just making a youtube channel to rep Worms Armageddon is something that doesn't exist yet as far as I know: great game replays, commentaries, How-To's for beginners entering wormnet/schemes/even TUS.

doubt I could convince them much more than you, who knows how many requests they may get, though perhaps yours may be unique enough if you explain it well.

noticed DarkOne (Docone42) chatting in Orange's stream archive link, did you actually watch all 6 hours live? ^^
