I press the Wk icon  to start worms (only wk, no installed px) and a black screen comes up with the white outline of a dialog box in the middle that I cannot see! Do I need a magic potion? -.-

my wa is patched and I've used it for months now without problems...wth...please help, would be nice to avoid un/installing again

any suggestions are appreciated

well, what do you do after that popup comes up? have you tried simply pressing space?? ....

yeh, all buttons do the windows "fail" sound. nothing that's too obvious is going on :/

restarting hasnt helped either, sigh.

if in the next 30mins no one has any ideas I'll just re-install

Try running wa.exe instead wk.

The WA.exe that impo gave you is a cracked exe (nocd). It cannot read from the mounted image/CD anymore so it crashes on the start of a match if you you don't fulfill its requirements.
The white outline on a black screen is the WA's frontend (menu), failed to load its graphics. It usually happens if the intro screens are enabled, but if you have them disabled and it didn't happen before, it's weird.
To load wormkit modules you don't necessarily need to run wormkit.exe. You can still use wa.exe for modules, check here if you're interested.
