So, I found my old W:A CD - it's the European Microprose release.

Since I don't want to run the installer (which apparently installs DX6 without questions, which I can't really have on this machine, and I also suspect it simply wouldn't work on my Win7x64 system), I was trying to follow the information on
http://worms2d.info/European_release_(Worms_Armageddon)

The cab extraction links are outdated, but http://legroom.net/software/uniextract worked for that purpose. So I copied stuff over as noted there.

Then I downloaded http://wa.team17.com/main.html?page=supp&area=upda&file=15 - which then proceeds to download wapatch.exe, and that tells me that Worms is not installed correctly.

I strongly suspect that's because I have the registry keys set up incorrectly - the three ' around APPDIR appear to be meant to be wiki highlighting, but even without, I'm not clear on the exact correct format - if someone was able to provide a .reg (with any path - once I see the correct format, I'm able to edit) that correctly installs this information, that'd be nice.

That is assuming my assumption about the missing registry keys being the issue is right - if not, what else might be missing?

I actually resolved this without registry fiddling: As mentioned in http://worms2d.info/Patch_(Worms_Armageddon) wapatch.exe can actually be opened as a zip file - extracting data1.cab and then using UniExtract and overwriting everything appears to work!

My CD version always ask if I wish install DX6 or nah AFTER the installation, I can't tell what's my release tho, I have only the .iso file in hands.

yeah, it most likely looks for the game's installation PATH variable which is located at:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Team17SoftwareLTD\WormsArmageddon
"PATH" value is the full location to the game's installation directory as written by the initial or update installers.
glad to see it resolved

So now I'm ready to go ISO. What ISO creator and what mount works? (Win7x64, but I might also need Win7x32 if I can convince my gf to use a copy I'd purchase for her).

I used to use power iso to mount image worked good. I used the iso creator on worms2d site, can't remember what it's called

here you go, ISO guides: http://worms2d.info/Running_WA_without_the_CD
note that on Win 8, you can mount .iso files without any additional programs
