Description:
Alright, time to add the other Poll Cups to the public cups!
Fourth most popular pick was Jetpack race, so here it goes :)

General rules
You can choose between fuel trial jetpack race and timetrial jetpack race. If you can't agree on which one to take, the game will be timetrial.

Timetrial jetpack:
  • Place 3 worms on start.
  • Race to the finish with all 3 worms. The best time counts.
  • You're not allowed to block, even if the map allows for it.
  • If you accidentally block your opponent, your opponent should skip turn and you should move out of the way.

Fuel trial jetpack:
  • Place 3 worms on start.
  • Race to the finish with all 3 worms. The goal is to use less fuel than your opponent.
  • The worm that uses the least fuel in its run wins the round.
  • You're not allowed to block, even if the map allows for it.
  • If you accidentally block your opponent, your opponent should skip turn and you should move out of the way.

Activity rules
  • Games in the group phase are best of 1.
  • Games in the knockout phase are best of 3.
  • Deadlines for each round are 2 weeks.
  • If you can't play your games within the deadline (vacation, exams, opponent not online), post in this forum, so I can make exceptions.

And finally, please arrange your game if you can't find your opponent! If your opponent is hard to reach because of time zones or active clanning/single league, it would help enormously if there's one day/time when your opponent can find you.

Wait, 10 sec for turn + 30 sec for retreat isn't time trial, it is classic turn-based jpr. Time trial and fuel trial are actually the same, they use scheme with unlimited fuel and unlimited turn time (current cup scheme). So what's wrong with it?

yea this basic schemme is ok(imo best for this kind of cups).
Kayz and me  uploaded this schemmes, cause turn based jpr is cool too(imo more exiting).
Anyway turn-baset jpr can be played in 2 variation too "time trial"(waste fual and fly as fast as possible) or 'fuel trial(save your fuel..).
I also think "turn based fuel trial" is simply best.... U have to be good in both way of jet pack racing.

Um, how would you play turn-based fuel trial?

Hm you could read the scheme description I gave with the scheme.
You have unlimited jetpacks, and unlimited time, and unlimited nades, but the rule is to use only one jetpack each turn, so you fly away your fuel and use some retreat time after dropping the nade. This is not as boring as the other scheme. The one who can use his fuel better gets further, simple.

Edit:

Ok this is no pure fuel trial, but it teaches both skills, flying fast, and flying with as less fuel as possible. If both players get to the finish in their retreat time, you just fly back the map when you reach finish, to see, who gets further.

This is what I call classic turn-based jpr, it isn't trial. Trials became available with 3.6.29.0, involving advanced jetpack power settings (used for unlimited fuel).

Edit: oh well, this variant with 90 fuel isn't classic, my fault. I like it as well, though still it isn't trial, it's turn-based.

--------------------------

Okay, I suggest the following thing then.
For group games: players have to agree on some type of trial. If they can't, they play this mixed turn-based variation.
For knockout games: as they are bo3, you play time trial and fuel trial as first two games. If there is a draw, then the mixed one comes as decider.

How does it sound?

Very good.

You're not even in the cup ???

The turnbased racing kind of leaves the possibility of luck, doesn't it?
If you enter a long vertical shaft, it won't matter whether you run out of time just before reaching the top or just after reaching the shaft.

That's not too far if you ask me. There's a reason regular RR isn't used in this league anymore :)

Tenori idea sounds most fair!
Keep in mind its very fast schemme so playing extra round is not a problem..
and I dont see any luck in this schemme(all variations).

 ::)

A small advantage could turn into a huge advantage because of this, but also, a huge advantage could disappear like this, not because you were much better/worse than the other, but because of luck (timer ran out!)

Well, you can pick turn based jetpack racing if you absolutely want to do that, but if you can't agree on which type to use, go with timetrial :)
