640x480 problem
« on: January 12, 2021, 05:09 PM »
I have an annoying problem when I minimize & maximize everything on desktop loads in 640x480 resolution. Everything on desktop become unresponsive in 640x480 mode while WA is still minimized to tray. I can't navigate the task manager with my mouse cursor because it becomes invisible. After sometime on desktop the game can load and run normal, but sometime it loads back with error message in game & it can't be read.

Monitor: Asus XG279Q
Graphics: GTX 1660 Super 6GB
In game resolution: 1366x768
Screenshot of settings attached.

I noticed this happened when I updated to 3.8+.

What can be issue? Solution?

Thank you.

i personally just use windowed mode, native resolution and superfrontendhd

can you go to nvidia control panel, go to custom resolution and see if one of the resolutions is 640x480 at native refresh rate?

SuperFrontendHD https://worms2d.info/SuperFrontendHD

Extract to your WA folder, and enable Load Wormkit Modules in advanced options.

Thank you Joe, I will try this and get back to this topic.

Also, I think I failed to mention that these crashes happens also in-game regardless of resolution.

These occurrences started to happen when I made switch to 3.8, or maybe new monitor? Regardless, very annoying. Can't even safely minimize anymore without worrying breaking the game for everyone.

Joe, the problem still persist.

Unfortunately the only solution is to wait, However if you wish to gain some control of your computer hold down window key+tab and switch to new desktop. In the new desktop right click on empty space select display settings. There you can pick a high resolution, at least then you get a better view & sense of control while you wait.

Game is poorly optimized for some reasons. You may argue against it, but it is not normal when you minimize and go back to the game it loads black screen, and have to use unorthodox method to leave it such as windows+tab and make new desktop just to wait for WA to respond or to end it with task manager.  This was never an issue with 3.7.2.1 though. I don't understand how this could be overlooked at all.

Quote from: 3.8.1 Update Documentation (Known Issues)
On some systems running Windows 10, with fullscreen optimizations enabled, it may occasionally become impossible to unminimize W:A after it has been minimized. The workaround for this is either to disable fullscreen optimizations in the Compatibility tab of WA.exe's Properties, or enable "Windowed mode" in W:A's Advanced Options screen.

That's it! That worked. I had enabled the fullscreen optimization thinking that it would Improve the game for some reason, even though I must have skimmed through some of the documentation because I swear that quote looked familiar.

Thanks.
