my friend messaged me about the patch as it was all over twitter with official magazines and gaming companies posting about it! PCGamer etc. Hopefully a lot of good PR which may bring some players out the woodwork and new people to the game.

I made a new channel on Discord to keep track of ppl joining it since 3.8 patch.
Usually I guess % was probably 1 person per day.
Since 3.8, 2 days ago, we have ~50 new members. Hype still lasts.

About WormNET activity - seems the same to me. Hard to determine because after corona happened, activity was spiking all the time. Seems there's never less than 30 ppl in #ag, at any time of day.

According to steamchart and my interpretation of it, the activity level seems the same.

However, according to these charts, June-August before 2020 have been low, but not this year. This can be because of the Covid-19 situation. I would wait and see if 3.8 actually did bring activity or not. However, the overall activity of WA have fluctuated over its course on Steam.

- CPU in online matches

This inspired me of a new mode for WA Online Matches:

BOSS BATTLE
 
Up to 2-4 Players.

Objective:

The player must defeat the boss before the other players does (just like a race...).

Rules:

The player's team has less energy and the Boss more energy and the highest of AI-Level (Level 5).
Each player's team has an area to hit the boss on the center area (see the image below for more information)*.
You all start the battle with only 3 weapons and Banzooka, Grenade and Handgun.** if you're lucky enough, crates will appear in one of the player's arena (or in the Boss Area).
If the player (or team) kills the boss before the other players is the WINNER! but if the Boss manage to kill all the players (or teams) is GAME OVER and you all lost...

* The boss area must have a hole to damage the BOSS and where the BOSS attacks one of the players (It must be a indestructible cave without "Out of Bounds" and "Water Trap" holes and sudden death's water rise^, some short like an Arena).

** The Shotgun, Longbow and Cluster Bomb are way more powerful and it will be considerate as Team Weapons.

^ The Indian Nuclear Test is BANNED in the game, if this weapon appears and you pick it up skip the turn.

You can set the delay of the Indian Nuclear Test to infinite (through an external scheme editor) and then it will never be able to be used.

Here's the article they reference; like many others, that site seems unaware that Team17 didn't develop the update themselves:

While video game updates are insanely common these days, it's quite strange to see a publisher adding some polish to a game that's been available for more than two decades. Still, the fact that Team 17 was willing to do so says a lot about how the game continues to perform after all these years. If Worms Armageddon weren't performing well on Steam, it seems pretty unlikely that Team 17 would bother with this latest patch. The game clearly has legs, despite the fact that its characters do not!
