Where did you exactly see any possbile chance that Turko would fail his hiding? After playing proper amount of elites a player knows just by experience how much retreat time he has and consider that Turko managed to hide before his retreat time expired.

Land to the right of the mine isn't in horizontal line with it, it's oblique. Also, the ground is unregular which makes mine more likely to bounce back.
