Announcements / Re: 10th Anniversary
« on: October 14, 2018, 12:08 PM »
The in-crowd community here isn't my bag, but TUS has been a great resource for scheme/map/flag/etc. downloads, and since the Team17 forum was closed, the place to be for WA news. Even a non-ideal community is better than no community at all, so thanks for keeping it going. :)

If it's delayed to next Saturday, I still won't be able to join - Saturday is always taken up by shopping/related chores.

Any news?

Not on the Worms front, but Team17 is now officially on the stock market.

As a result, the company is now valued at £217 million, with their gross profit from the offering being £107.5 million. Founder/CEO Debbie Bestwick intends to cash in £50 million of her personal £100 million stake.

Who woulda thunk I'd be able to post two links to Kraftwerk's first album in a week? :D

Just happened upon this:

https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2018-05-08-team17-confirms-230-million-flotation-plans

Basically, Team17 is preparing to sell stock, which should give them more capital, and therefore more hiring power, bigger budgets, and a chance to grow. I wonder if the update is being held back until after the smoke clears?

General discussion / Re: Old replays and players through the years
« on: April 13, 2018, 03:35 AM »
See attached for my replays from my original install of WA from back in 2004. I've never really been more than a casual player matching against randoms on WormNET, and my forte back then was largely custom normals and Intermediate, but perhaps there are some familiar names in there for y'all. ^_^

I've been wanting to play for a while, but I've been sidetracked by some computer hardware issues as well as my other hobbies. All this is cleared up now, though, should only be a week max before I'm back in the swing of things. :-)

Other worms games / Re: So I uninstalled WMD...

Team17 talked a lot but didn't deliver. I don't think that WMD is a terrible game. It just could have been SO MUCH BETTER if they had:

1. Had a beta with veteran players giving input

Especially this. They only started talking to us AFTER all the launch features were set in stone, and never gave a real explanation why we weren't let in on the ground floor. At least the Mechwarrior Online and Halo 5 teams had a pretense of involving pro players early, even if little of their advice was used.

Pandering to casuals will make your game sell faster, but balancing for the hardcore will get you longevity.

No. But I imagine T17 would do more updates/fixes if the title had proven succesful, which seems the logical thing to do. The company had an interest in investing in a (competitive) community because it would attract more players > more sells. I'm pretty sure their initial targets were limited, but I'm sure they counted on more than getting max 6 players to sign up for their community events  :-[

Team17 already has an eSports-ready game. They just need to remaster it.

Just imagine, WA with high-res assets, a ranking system, and NO OTHER CHANGES.

Glorious.

The only way you gain momentum from the rope is by pressing up. You can't bounce yourself off of walls/terrain/ceilings/etc to gain speed. In fact, that often deadens your momentum.

Does this apply to all three rope types?

What are these 3.8 features people are eagerly waiting for? I cannot see any game breaking bug, the game is fine; is the game really worth patches at this point?

I want to see continued updates for a sense of continuation. Updates mean a game hasn't been abandoned. An update is a sign of life.

Ok then, I think I've got enough experience to make this "family" computer upgrade go nice and smooth, so I'll join in here. :)
