I don't know if there are more questions about the game itself rather than the community, but because I don't know crap about the community, my time runs out before I get very far.

I might be in for this. How long after signups are done does play begin?

If things get any worse, I'll either create an image or get a new drive, though if either are causing problems, I highly suspect it's the latter. It's always behaved kinda cheaply.

Just had a silent crash. Happened when I was exiting a game I had won. It was under Hostingbuddy, I was the game creator, crash happened while the disc was spinning up, postgame screen was still showing.

Started WA, joined game, crashed when I selected my team.

Lobby was full. Running original Microprose CD with 3.7.2.1 update.

PC specs: Windows 7 x64 SP1, AMD Phenom X3 8600, 2 GB DDR2 RAM, GeForce 9800 GT with 341.44 drivers (two years old).

Since what happened is so obvious to everyone,  clearly I don't understand how Dragon Ball works. The dud mine was behind a worm. Shouldn't the worm be hit? I mean, if I stand right next to a worm and use Fire Punch or Prod, the worm gets hit every time. Sometimes I've had whiffs with Baseball Bat, but they're usually from standing IN a worm, not next to it.

EDIT: Ok, I'm a god damn idiot. I always knew I was. The player was indeed standing IN the near worm, not next to it. Feel free to send me back to Worm Nursery School.

What's weird to me is that T17 have mentioned, either in that article or another one, that they're fascinated by things like TUS, the worm olympics, etc, and want to capture whatever keeps WA players coming back. In which case you'd think the obvious solution would be expanding on WA itself! Or more fully copying its physics. Like, this is the only game of theirs that has already proven to have eSport potential.

Other game companies besides Team17 have the exact same problem of creating a hit game, following it up with something almost completely different, expanding on THAT for later entries instead of what made the series popular in the first place, then eventually adding old features for flavour when sales/popularity of the new games start shrinking, but never, EVER truly going back to the original formula.

Nintendo is one of the few game companies that consistently EXPAND on what makes their franchises great instead of CHANGING them. In fact, Japanese developers in general are more likely to stick to what works rather than reinventing the wheel.

I think it's a western, capitalistic fear of creating something that customers are so comfortable with, that they won't feel a need to buy a new version of a product. So they intentionally redesign their products just enough that they'll still sell, but keep customers wanting more. "Chasing the dragon", so to speak.

Microsoft in particular is often accused of this. Windows 98, Windows Media Player 6, the original Xbox, Halo 1, Perfect Dark 1, all considered the best, but never expanded on.

This may sound kind of like a conspiracy theory, but it sure feels like it, doesn't it?

It was a success in sales. But it wasn't a successful console, far from it.  1653 games where developed for it, less than half compared to the PS2. And it was such a success in sales because it had a huge market, it marketed itself as a console that moms and grandfathers could play, and they did for 2 days before letting it rest in some obscure place in the living room, as seen in so many family homes.

A sale is a sale.

Handheld aren't consoles.

So? They both contribute to the bottom line.

Just because you're not king in AAA third-party cinematic dudebro RPG blood shooters doesn't mean you aren't making money.

Even for a forum with a lot of ESL members, the grammar in this thread is horrendous.

No, Nintendo isn't what it once was. But it's stupid to ask "do they still exist?".

Their second-to-last console, the Wii, which was replaced in 2012, is the third-best selling console of all time behind the first two PlayStations. Yes, it was an underpowered fad with a low attach rate, but it was still a success.

Their second-to-last handheld, the DS, which was replaced in 2011, is the best selling handheld of all time, even almost outselling the PlayStation 2. Yes, they've never had a serious competitor in that market, and smartphones have pretty much killed off said market at this point, but it was still a success.

Yes, their latest console, the Wii U, did almost everything wrong. For comparison, in its last two years (2010-2012), the Wii sold more (almost 15 million) than the Wii U has during its entire lifespan (over 13 million). But 13 million isn't an absolute failure. It managed it without ever getting a significant price cut, and had a high attach rate.

In addition, their latest handheld, the 3DS, overcame a bad launch to end up selling almost as much as the original NES.

And outside of hardware, a franchise that Nintendo owns 1/3rd of, Pokémon, is experiencing its second wave of mass popularity after its 90's debut.

They currently have nearly 5 billion dollars cash-on-hand, negligible debt, and their stock is 3 times higher than its lowest point. And as for future endeavours, the Switch reveal video has over 22 million views, over 500,000 likes, and the Jimmy Fallon video is nearing 5 million views. We will see if this initial positivity can continue when the launch lineup and price are revealed in January.

Hopefully, this game doesn't disappoint, as I plan to buy a Switch specifically for this game only.

Not necessary if you have a Wii U. (Unless you want the Switch's smoother performance and/or portable functionality along with BotW.)
