Leagues General / Re: TRL: ZaR Roper?

TUS main league isn't the same.

I mean people who want to try and be #1 in the League based on a scheme, or schemes they actually love, not just tolerate.

Standings are more accurate in TRL, to a certain degree.

I agree, part of the reason activity is bad imo is that there are too many schemes and people don't like giving a free win in schemes that they never play or even care about. It's just not fun for them.

I'm certain that a ZaR TRL would be successful, and may even see more games played than the main league.

I'm also prepared to donate $50 prize money for the winner of the TRL season.

Also, after ZaR, should be Aerial.

Aerial is added to main tus league now...

TUS Discussion / Re: Change Roper scheme to ZaR?
« on: October 14, 2018, 09:54 PM »
You guys are out of your mind if you think newcomers will rather play zar roper (1 weapon, no chute, less time, instant mines) than regular one that's been around for 20 yrs. I mean, new guys will never play either of these schemes, but thinking zar is newcomer friendly is just being delusional.

Sorry but you are wrong on this.

I understand people feeling attached to the scheme that has been around for a long time, but let
me ask you this - when was the last time you saw anyone host a Roper funner?

Lots more ZaR games are hosted every day, and I’ve played with plenty of casual players who, despite having some basic rope skill, have not played much roper but enjoy ZaR due to its fast pace and action, and the fact that they never feel completely out of the game even when up against a better player.

No one is saying that ZaR is more fair than roper. But it is more enjoyable for the weaker player, which encourages more games and a league that is not completely dominated by the top 3 or 4.

The better player will still win more often. But a series of games will be more likely to be 8-2 or 6-1 than 2-0 or 3-0 when it's a better player vs a weaker player.

Could at least be worth trying for a TRL season or something.

General discussion / Re: Let's keep TUS boring and inactive! Yay!
« on: October 11, 2018, 03:45 PM »
How about we just split tus into two leagues. One with Roper, Elite, Ttrr, Shopper and Inter. The other with Mole Shopper, ZaR, Aerial, Big RR and Comet Dodging (only allowed when players are tied 1-1 or 2-2 and both players agree).

Would be interesting to see which is more active after a month or two.

It's not a great idea, roper is still the better competitive scheme by far, remove mines and I'd  be more amenable to this change.  ZaR just injects more luck into a scheme that has had no less than 5 10+ page threads dedicated to why rope is a luck scheme and what changes could be made to it.  ZaR can also already be played and reported as a roper if both players agree, I played one a few weeks ago.

I would argue that that's not a bad thing. Yes there's slightly more of a luck factor to ZaR but the best player will still win more often. They just won't win every single game comfortably. It's more fun like this imo, the league will be more open and thus encourage more games.

That w2 roper ladder that started a couple of years ago had a certain burst of popularity, because it was more interesting than one-sided tus leagues. I think ZaR could do the same. It's better than seeing someone beat the same player 10 or 20 times in a row...  ::)

General discussion / Re: Current status of the League

and also fifth biggest roping community on Worms.

That really made me laugh...

I like ZaR, and I like you, but 5th biggest roping community is hardly an achievement to use as a reason to introduce ZaR to the League lol.

It's the biggest roping community, and 5th biggest clan or community overall, get your facts right Kradie  :D

Personally I don't think the changes does much. The main problem of the league is the lack of new blood. We are all older and more busy with our lives. Even if some of us try to play leagues again it would be for a short time until we get inactive again.
If you have any plans to attract newcomers and teach them how the league works though...

This is why I suggested letting people host their own leagues. If they come to tus just to play mole or zar, they will learn how the league works and (hopefully) some will start to play the classic schemes too.

The world needs more TUS ZaR.

If you were regarded as a good player at all, league or not, I might take your opinion seriously

Again you resort to personal attacks when we're discussing a hypothetical league idea. Fantastic, if only WA had more "veterans" such as you.

On the other hand, spleen, you came back 3 days ago from, what it seemed to be,  at least 1 year break of Worms and already using terms like "majority of ppl".. What majority? 3-4 of us agreed this could worth a try, just because league is stagnating for a long time, so every movement is a good movement atm.

I personally think this would be cherry on a cake of TUS dying. But at least we'll enjoy some activity with everyone playing their favourite schemes until activity completely shuts down.

I am a recreational player and never claim to be anything else. But I think a lot of people are more concerned about the old voices on tus rather than the people that are actually playing wormnet regularly. A big part of this idea is getting more players to join tus by providing them with the ability to play the schemes they enjoy playing.

first quote - ya they can play the 1 league that appeals to them, exactly, horrible idea.

Better than 0 active leagues, no?

2nd quote - If they have 24 hours a day off and 4 different playoffs with 4 different people. Extremely complicated, I wouldn't expect you to know. And about the Classic League. Winning a league 6 years ago does not make my opinion more important than yours, but it does damn well make my opinion more strong than your opinion or Komodo's.  Let me know when you guys beat daiNa, lukz, and Random00 in playoffs, when everyone is playing everyday. Might make your guys opinion a little more strong or credible. lol

The ployoffs would not all be at the same time. And again why do you bring this up? If only playoff winners were allowed an opinion tus would be dead already.

26
I can barely keep up with 1 league. Imagine all the new comers to worms, that would drive me right away.

Not really, they can just play one league if that's what appeals to them.

How is that 1 guy that managed to get into 4 playoffs in 4 different leagues going to schedule his playoff matches? How you guys even think this is remotely a good idea is way beyond me. Never mind, I just looked at both your profiles, no classic winners, that explains this whole scheme of leagues.

If they have the time to play in enough games to reach 4 different playoffs then surely they have the time to arrange 4 more games? Doesn't seem too complicated.

Classic is dead. Winning a league 6 years ago does not make your opinion more important than ours. If you want tus and WA to last a few more years you need to listen to the majority.

27
My support has not changed of letting people play whatever they want in TUS League. I do not support HUNDREDS of leagues.

It's not hundred of leagues, it's a set number at a time. Did you read the thread?

28
There isn't enough in-game activity to justify any of this.

People barely play TUS these days and it is well-established, so how does one expect for a new league (or several leagues) to gain traction and become popular?

As I've said before, it doesn't matter what grand ideas people come up with if people aren't playing the game.

People ARE playing the game, I see about as many people on #ag today as there was 5 years ago. Why stop them from playing the games they want to play because some guys on a forum who aren’t even active any more disagree with it?

I've been on the worms forums for a while now, watched much of the history of worms throughout the years. We can all see we have less activity now, than before, when the leagues were more simple. Just Classic and Free. Cups and Tournaments are fun to play in, a nice alternative to league play. If there was a league for every scheme, or if people were allowed to host their own league even with a limit, I don't think it would improve the activity on worms.

So you think league activity would be any worse than it is now? What is there to lose exactly?

29
Yeah, I'd love to host Aerial league. Would be great. And I'm sure sock would like to have ttrr league, senator would be happy for elite league.. How would we even start, and how much ppl would wait to get their leagues hosted?

My suggestion would be to approve them as we do cups, so as long as there are not too many leagues currently running they could get started fairly quickly.

We could also require say, 10 people to sign up as 'Interested' before it starts, just to make sure there is adequate interest. Then once it starts anyone can join and play at will. Moderators will be able to set season length (2 or 3 months max), and whether or not playoffs are to be included.

In the end, we would do what we were trying to avoid in all of previous conversations - divide players.
Could be the key to revival, also could be the key for quicker death.

I think players are pretty divided already, at least this way everyone can play what they want. And I think that if some leagues become very fun and competitive then it may even attract more players who previously weren't too interested in a certain scheme.

It will also get more casual players into TUS. Even if they sign up just to play mole shoppers they will still see the other games on the site and may decide to start playing these too.

A league for every scheme? Or allowing anyone to make their own league, if 100 people made just 1 league for every person, that would be 100 leagues.............. Seems like a lot of leagues and a lot of confusion... Then again maybe more people would play if there were 1,000 leagues.

As I said, there would be a set number open at any one time, as with cups. Inactive leagues will be closed and replaced with new ones that are waiting to be approved.

And then every league matters less and less, and so is the victory.
*shrugs*

Some can be sponsored with money prizes to increase interest. Maybe not every league will be successful but there are a few schemes that plenty of people would like to play in leagues. It's not like there is a lot of people playing league games as it is... *shrugs*

Honestly that's the best idea i've heard for years.

Let's do it!

Thanks! I think it has the potential to be a lot of fun in what could be WA's final few years of activity.
