General discussion / Re: Markings on your monitor- okay or not?
« on: December 05, 2011, 11:50 PM »
But imo using paper for worms games is like using formulary for math tests. You simply have more time for the important stuff, e.g. tactical behaviour in Elite.
If you bring i.e. a table of derivatives to a math test and your teacher allows it, it's because the concept of derivatives has already been tested in previous tests. What's important for your teacher is not to test that specific knowledge, but something else you can apply it to.
Your analogy is read like this: the fact that you are able to damage a worm is something given, something that is not part of the skills that are tested in competitive gameplay. And that's where it's wrong.
If your paper guarantees you attacking success, and you can "have more time for the important stuff", what you really are doing is bypassing the problem of having to hit a worm in the first place. And this problem is in fact one of the key aspects of default schemes.
Moreso in competitive games, where it's not just a matter of playing by the book, because there are other external factors like pressure, urgencies, adversity, etc. A paper (or markings or other) that guarantees you attacking success takes all of that out of the question.

In short, you're bringing a derivatives table to a derivatives test, not to an integrals test. Can your teacher allow that to happen?

In an online style contest you get 15 seconds more, each second adding exponentially more difficulty, and only three attempts. Scoring a 5 there is something remarkable, and hard to see.
Consider that, and maybe you'll realize about the proper merit of these scores. :)

We were going to host experimental (not so official) X-Worms contests with Mablak, to try ideas out, but we didn't have a chance so far. Maybe sometime before the next Olympics.

Please have in mind that Lalo and daina are our most active players and the reason why we got into POs. Without them it's not really cfc who is clanning.
They both would be able to play the day after if that was the deadline. Please consider giving them this minimum delay to resolve the Playoffs.

Hello. First of all, good games.
Secondly, I'm attaching the log of the game lobby in this post.
Thirdly:
And before you guys say "that's bad luck, deadline is deadline", please consider how it was 1:30am for us while it was around 7:30pm for them.
You were willing to stay longer and play Hysteria or Elite had we chosen to play any of these (as shown in the log). The fact that your team lineup wasn't optimal is irrelevant here: so was our lineup. And the fact that we get the last scheme pick is because our clan ended with a higher rating that season, so you have to abide by this rule. You can't force use to not choose Roper.

Guys, I know it sucks. We were all forced to come to this arbitrarily scheduled time. Each of the clans arrived the best we could. We were limited, but we all did our best. We even managed to go through four games. And when it's so close to finally get done with this neverending playoff, you decide that having to play our pick is unfair to your clan? Of course it's unfair, if you think it was even possible you can actually get all our clanmembers in the same channel, the same day, the same hour and get everyone to play their best schemes. But that's not how it is, and that's not how it was arranged. It was not possible. And it sucks, but you have to accept it.
Please have in mind that we were willing to accept it had we been in your shoes.

Finally, my personal opinion, not necessarily my clan's: Winning by walkover is really lame, but I wouldn't like that CF actually got away with it. I wouldn't mind it being cancelled, since it's a hell old season anyway. It's up to the mods.

Edit: oops it took me long to post this and didn't see darkz' edit of him attaching the log. :O

a2b Tournaments / Re: What time would you prefer?
« on: September 21, 2010, 02:03 PM »
I say it's time to do another poll, because it's been a while and people's schedules change over time. I can start it if that's okay with you.
Also if this poll was of multiple choices (it's possible to be able to play at more than just one hour), i'm fairly sure the results would be much close.
