Season 3 League / Season 3 Rules modification
« on: February 22, 2015, 05:35 AM »
Welcome to the rules board of the Kaos League Season 3.

What I'll post here is probably one of the most complex rules anyone ever created for a worms scheme :) :

DreamTrance and me discussed the current drop rules and agreed that it needed a change.
We don't like the fact that the player can decide if already won rounds will be just deleted, only because the opponent has a bad internet connection.
Already won rounds must be kept! It doesn't matter who drops regarding already finished rounds!

Here you can see the weapon panel of Kaos.

DreamTrance and me gave the utilities and weapons points, ranging from 1 to 6, depending on use and worth.
We agreed on all numbers after discussing a lot of varieties and uses for those weapons. Before you ask, why Super Sheep has a 5, remember how awesome it is for collecting. These points are just regarding the Kaos Scheme! If you disagree, please contact us here.

We use these points to determine who had a "significant advantage" in the crashed round. Obviously it sucks if you crash while having a lot of ropes, jet packs and awesome weapons, while your opponent just has 3 handguns :). To equalise this problem, players have to skip a certain amount of turns in the rematch. So:

If a game crashes, the following rule will take place in Kaos League Season 3:

  • The scores and their respective performance points are kept at all times. (0-0, 1-0, 2-2 etc.)
  • If one player drops, he gets +1 skip in the rematch. If the host drops, no one gets an additional skip.
  • The mod hosting the game goes into the replay file to the exact point where it crashed and counts all weapon points for each player using the above sheet.
  • If one player has 0-19 points more than the other player, no skip is given.
  • If one player has 20-59 points more than the other player, +1 skip is given to the player who has less points.
  • If one player has 60-99 points more than the other player, +2 skips are given to the player who has less points.
  • If one player has 100 points or more than the other player, +3 skips are given to the player who has less points.
  • As long as one player has to skip, it is forbidden to attack/hinder the other player in any form (blocking with girders/petrol, too). You may dig and even use a Super Sheep to collect, but you cannot damage your opponent.
  • If you happen to break this rule and damage your opponent during that time, you directly have to skip the current and following turn and apologise.
  • If your opponent still has skips while you break this rule, they become deducted by 1 and you only have to skip the current turn. This may sound harsh, but hey, you're the one risking using a weapon, aren't you?
  • If it happens that both players get skips, they cancel each other out. (A gets 2 skips, B gets 1 skip --> A gets 1 skip, B gets 0 skips)

Now some might think: "Hey, only one skip for dropping, that's not much!" But think about the fact that it means 2-3 weapon deliveries for you instead of just 1 (depending on who starts).
As you also can see, the point ranges are not the same. The reason is that the more you skip, the more super amazing powerful your opponent becomes. We want to avoid an imbalanced rematch. We tested this system and it looks fair so far.

The reason why we forbid any attacking/blocking of any form is that your opponent should have the chance of a free accessible map in the rematch. If he is blocked completely, he might as well surrender directly. He should at least get a chance of collecting something. :)

The reason why this rule is this complex and long:

Kaos is a very complex scheme, and it's very hard to decide what to do, if a game crashes. We know that the crates are random, and you can't recreate the same situations in a stockpiling match. But this is the best we could come up with so far. :)

Example to clarify:

Player A plays vs. Player B, it's 2-0 for Player A and the third round. Player A crashes. --> 1 skip given to player A.
Mod checks, and sees: Player A has 100 Weapon points and B has 50 weapon points. --> The difference is 50 --> 20-59 range --> 1 skip given to player B.
--> The skips cancel each other out and the rematch will have a clean state, where no one skips, while it's still 2-0 for Player A.

Isn't that much greater than a 0-0 rematch, just because player A dropped?

Challenges Comments / Re: Challenge #483, Crate Race
« on: February 20, 2015, 01:35 PM »
Ah I see... Sorry. Yes I somehow thought that crates, who didn't get collected, don't count anymore for the next worm, like if all crates would disappear after each turn ;). So I didn't use the crate counter but counted every turn, how many crates where left and subtracted them from 100 :D. Was tired and confused. Nevermind.

The reason why I thought this, is the following: It's definitely more pro to collect all 100 crates in each turn, than don't reach the finish with 7 worms and then getting all with the last. But somehow both give 800 points? Okay then :D

I am not sure about my last input. More than half of the crate on the roof was on the side I've been before, but it was possible to collect it from the left side, as I was going to, but sadly lost my turn.

I like this one :) in one turn I had 101 crates on the map. I guess that's -1. Damn it started so well. :D

Damnit I could have 9, but of course cluster power is 2... I also noticed that this map has a spot down right where the worm is blocked, which is weird, since you only get the best result, if the objects are spawning in a good way...

General discussion / Re: CWT 2014
« on: February 15, 2015, 12:06 PM »
There's not really a need to have more than 32 players. CWT is there to find the best Intermediate player. We don't only check if you are in ONL. We checked if you played in CWT before, how you played, how far you reached etc. Chelsea never played CWT before, so he definitely got a chance.

Pizza and Uzurpator played CWT two times but never made it out of groupstage, so we thought they could pass a ticket this time and give the chance to other players who give it a shot. In the end we want to find the best Intermediate player, that's why people with a lot of merits in this scheme who sign in "too late" and have a higher sign-in-number than 32 will have a sure place (Johnmir and Random00 for example).

If we don't know you, or never seen you play intermediate (Kaleu, Rogi, VoK) there is a chance we kind of flip a coin if you're in or not.
Furthermore Berria and Peja had a sure place, because they signed in to CWT 2014 and didn't get a spot.
If you are showing interest in Intermediate, you can always play (no matter if TUS or ONL), and sign up next year.

All players who signed up in time (first 32 places) but got excluded from CWT, have a sure spot this year.
Thanks for another successful CWT this year :)

Season 2 League / Re: Season 2 [KAOS LEAGUE]

Well Asbest's arguments were flawed. He didn't think it through.

I think it's great that the player who didn't drop can decide, what to do. Because you can't put a general rule for dropping. You can never know if it was a power shortage or on purpose or just random WormNet fail. With giving that power to a player, he can decide on his own for the most fair action, without being obliged by a rule to do something unfair, if the other player had just bad luck dropping.

Asbest suggested that the score should be kept, no matter who drops, but then you can get this situation:

Imagine Player A leads 2-0 vs Player B, and in third round Player A has 1 worm and Player B has 7 or something.

So Player A thinks: "Ha if the score stays, I can just plug my internet cable and return with 8 worms from comfortable 2-0 situation." This rule prevents this, since Player B could just say 0-0 after A "drops", so Player A won't even get the idea of plugging his internet cable, because it'd mean risking losing his already won rounds. This rule prevents people from doing unfair shit, and if something happens, it's up to the player to find a fair solution, which is completely fine.

Good job creating this rule, DreamTrance.

When can you play? I am available every night, time doesn't matter until Wednesday, and then like 17 GMT - 23 GMT

Season 2 League / Re: Season 2 [KAOS LEAGUE]
« on: December 30, 2014, 04:03 AM »
Here's a fast change of the performance point system:

In Kaos League Season 1, won games only got rewarded by basic points. This created  the option that it was possible to get more performance points, if one player for example wins 3-2 instead of 3-0, since he got 2 rounds more where he could achieve performance points outside of survivors and time.
To prevent this irrationality, basic points in Season 2 will be added to the performance points.

Example: Winning 3-0 instead of 3-2 gives a player 4 performance points more, so one quadruple kill is enough to equalize the two lost rounds, which is more fair.

To make it more clear:
Let's take three players: A, B and C. All three played 30 games, but not vs. each other.
A and B have the same playing style and manage to get 150 points with their played games (survivors, kills etc).
B got 0 points in the round he lost!
A wins all games 3-0
B wins 29 games 3-0 but 3-1.
So A gets 150 + 8*30 = 390 points
So B gets 150 + 8*29 + 6 = 388 points

In the old system, they'd be equal, but of course 3-1 is worse performance than 3-0, so 2 points more is fair.

Now comes player C and wins all games 3-2, but he also has the same playing style as A and B. He even managed to get some performace points in the rounds he lost, let's say half as much than usual, since he didn't have survivors, which results in 5*30+2.5*20 = 200 points!
It's just a fact that it's possible to get more performance if you play more rounds, which is irrational and illogical.

Because player C won all games 3-2, he only gets 4*30 = 120 extra points. His final performance result is 320 points, only 70 points less than player A. Without this rule he would be having 200 points, while player A and B would have 150, though all three players have the same performance, and C just had more rounds. He deserves to have less, since winning all games 3-0 is much harder than 3-2.

General discussion / Re: NNN suck?
« on: November 14, 2014, 03:45 PM »
W:A it's a game not a business nor a cult where you have need to ask "honestly" from each player that you don't know. Games have to be played, never assume what has to be or not. If you are clearly better than someone, then the challenge will be to finish the game soon as possible or something like that.

And because of that, why do you tell him how to behave in game either? If Bytor wants to play like this in his hosts, it's his right. He doesn't have to play vs everyone, and in the same way you all don't have to play vs Bytor.

This whole thread is a big waste of time. I've known Bytor for a very long time, and I don't care about his quirks. Everyone has them, and since I had a lot of great games and awesome CWT stream commentaries with him, I cherish him as clan member. He is also one of the first NNN members and invented a lot of tricks which are standard knowledge nowadays.
