thought for sure you'd get a chance to fight into playoff SPW since you were only 3 pts away.  next time  ;)

they can rearrange games so that points are correct, just post the game IDs and explain in complaints forum

these seem like big changes for little benefit, and it also splits our already small community

If maximum possible points and a good challenging match isn't enough to make you wanna play better players, then I'm afraid there's no system that could.

you don't have to tell me this, I always love a good challenge, and I actively try to play the top players.  I'm 7-4 vs mablak.  unfortunately I see mablak way more than random00 though due to timezones, so I'm only 0-2 vs him.

I only mentioned a possible rule that forces top players to play each other because not everyone seeks out the best competition.

If you want ideas for brainstorming since you seem sure there's no system, I remember Cases Ladder had special rules for the top10 of their ladder system.  they made sure their top10 was kept competitive and not lazy using activity rules that if they didn't meet the requirements, they would losing ranking.  something like that might be possible.  I'm not saying it's necessary, just an option to look into if enough people want to try it.

I don't think you did anything wrong Komo, and I'm sure there are others that agree.  I think it's great that you had fun and are enjoying/learning elite, so keep it up.  It's obvious that in future seasons, you won't win as many points due to both of your overall ranks being farther apart.

From my experience, high ranked players do not like to play with each other. It seems that they'd more like to look at each other as a PO opponent.

noticed this too.. it might be fear of losing rank since they are so close.  it might be ego.. or not wanting to lose to a good player  :P  but it could also be timezones or both players looking for TEL on different days.

the current system doesn't force top players to play each other.. so unless there is a rule that they must (which could be a good idea somehow), they probably won't.  their only benefit for playing each other currently is the amount of points for winning... so I don't see how increasing the points won even more makes them want to play each other more.

Maybe SPW's prediction of future TEL standings isn't going to be as extreme as he thinks.  Since it's so close to the start of season2, maybe let it go on as it normally would to see how it goes.  This discussion can continue through the 2nd season so you'll have more time to plan any possible future changes if they're really needed and/or wanted by the players.

people seem to like the simplicity of starting fresh.. and with such a small community as ours, we can usually figure out who is trying to mess with the system and call them out (or just try to play them to knock them down).  it can't hurt that much either to let all sub1000 rated players have a confidence boost at the beginning of a new season starting at 1000.  maybe it gives them some nice hope to continue playing and try to get better.

it's not perfect.. but is the current system perfect either? I could support either system. I really don't mind what system is in place.  I just enjoy playing, and I hope whatever system is used also helps to keep players happy and enjoying the league.  that should be the main goal I think with our unique community.

yeah, I don't know.. it seems like a lot of complexities for not as much 'proven' benefit..

your main goal seemed to be to stop the bashing early in the season and still retain benefits of an overall rank.. but I fear it's also introducing newer problems, like the one you mentioned.  it just makes me uneasy because not every scenario has been fleshed out perfectly and made clear that this really is the best solution.

The only real shitty thing about it is that Nino and Random could cooperate together to quickly accumulate a gigantic score. (If they agree to 1-1 they both win a smashing 78 points in the current season).
=This does seem like a major issue though, but I don't know if people are really that lame). Either way, in early season, the good players will quicly gain rank this way if they play half-decent players. As soon as they hit the 3000 mark or so, any such cheating is no longer possible).

well then I think most of these people requesting a change will NOT like this.. because they've already mentioned that they hate the idea of guys with overall rank easily getting into great playoff positions

so on the flip side.. if 556 ranked Peja beats 1559 ranked me, he won't get the 72 point boost to season ranking as it would be like right now.. he gets only like 62 points since his season ranking would be 1000.  but then you're saying the overall rankings will still be hit with the +/-72?

just clarifying

Edit: I don't know, maybe MI can jump into the conversation and talk about how overall/season points change per game because I'm not exactly sure if it's how I think it is

HHC, so how is the overall ranking changing? you only talked about points won for the season rank

There are cons for both, but it seems like people are much more passionate about wanting each season starting clean vs the alternative.

With a reset, there are easy points to steal at the beginning of the season when everyone is the same rank (even though we all know that everyone is NOT at the same rank).  So players under 1000 skill level will be giving away their points unfairly to those players fortunate enough to take them early in the season.

It's a trade-off.
With a reset, good players early in the season have an unfair advantage of taking these points from sub1000 skilled players.  With no reset, this unfairness is gone, but now any good player who joins TEL late without playing in any previous season will get into playoffs easily through seasonal ranking.

Which is more important for the league?  Or can you think of something better?

Edit:  also, maybe there can be a way to adjust # of players who make it into playoffs due to activity?  perhaps since this 1st season seems so active, it can go from 8 to 12?  this bracket would give 1-4 spots a first round bye, and 5-12 fight to play them

Yeah, because it is a luck factor that can be fixed, just like random barrels and mines in elite

*puts flame shield up*

random barrels/mines in elite was an easy fix because removing them didn't change the underlying gameplay.

random health drops in roper is not an easy fix because removing them takes away a fundamental part of roper gameplay.  without a crate to collect, there is no point in roping around the map at all.  if you leave them in the game, but remove the rule that you must collect them, you haven't completely destroyed the 'luck factor' of health crates.  they can still hurt or help you.

unless there is a clear cut, great idea that everyone can agree with and rally around.. just accept the randomness of crates, rope your best, and have fun  8)

what's stopping you from going back to separate leagues if it doesn't work out?  is there a fear that it won't be possible to de-merge?

Shy, do you actually have any ideas about fixing the randomness of crates?  Because that's really what seems to be bothering you the most.. so unless there is some great solution that no one has thought of through all these years, we have to accept that health crates drop randomly.  Roper revolves around this until something changes. All my arguments accept the fact that this is how roper is.

So I say to everyone still complaining about crates.. suck it up, and play better  :P  or think of a solution that everyone might accept, kind of like how avi tried to with his w2rope campaign.
